WCW Monday Night Nitro - Monday, February 5th, 1996
- The final week leading into WCW's sixth annual Super Brawl!
- A little odd to see none of the following men on the card: Benoit, Malenko, Guerrero or Regal.
- Regal/Finlay could be added on this week... but I strongly doubt it.
- This will be a rather short introduction this time around.
- Like last Monday, tonight's recap will be in "brief" form, as I can get a lot more done without doing it move-by-move every time.
- I might do the occasional show in detail but who knows...
- E-mail me if you'd like if you want the old way back and if you're not satisfied with the new version. If there is enough e-mails, then the old way will come back... Don't want the millions of people coming to DDT Digest to be disgruntled.
- Also, good news, I will be getting more footage of WCW from 1990-1995... Meaning that I won't be done after all the 1996 events are completed...
- I will have loads more shows to do, which is great, since I love recapping shows!
- Let's start with Nitro!
- Opening video starts the show....
- I just noticed that Hogan is in the majority of the video...
- All of the Four Horsemen will be in action...
- Benoit/Savage... Arn/Pillman battle Sullivan/Morrus... Flair/Bagwell...
- Also, WCW Tag Team Titles, champs Luger/Sting go to war against the newly returned... Road Warriors!
- Chris Benoit is getting a World Title shot!!!
- For the WCW World Heavyweight Title: Chris Benoit Vs (champ) Randy Savage
- For a guy who hasn't been on television a lot, Benoit is sure over with the crowd.
- After clubbing blows, the match goes to the floor with Benoit getting the advantage.
- In the ring, Benoit with a clothesline, nicely sold by Savage.
- For the first roughly three minutes of this match, Benoit is in complete control.
- I think Savage has gotten maybe one punch in.... MAYBE.
- Benoit is just sending Savage into corners and connecting with various suplexes.
- Benoit even connects with the flying head butt, but doesn't cover.
- Benoit is in complete control, and now it's at least six minutes into the match.
- Even when Savage attempts a move, Benoit one-ups him.
- That is until Benoit misses a suicide dive to the floor... Literally hitting his forehead on the concrete floor.
- Savage goes up top, connects with the flying elbow... Jeez.
- Flair comes down and stalks Elizabeth!
- Woman attacks Savage... Woman has ATTACKED Savage!
- Bell sounds...
- Should be noted that Woman distracted the referee when Savage was sent to the floor the second time and during illegal activities by Benoit.
- Your Winner: Randy Savage via disqualification.
- Hogan comes running down with a steel chair...
- Gene comes running down for an interview with our heroes.
- Hogan just has a little band-aid over his injured eye.
- As Hogan does his usual interview, Flair comes in and attacks Hogan's eye.
- Elizabeth neglected to tell Hogan he was there... Thanks Liz.
- Giant comes in and whacks Hogan with a chair...
- Zodiac again comes in and says "No" to Giant...
- Savage comes out with a chair and helps Hogan.
- Hogan is laid out... YES!
- Clusterf**k... Savage evens questions as to why Liz didn't tell Hogan about the sneak attack.
- Hogan is busted open right above his bad eye.
- Dungeon of Doom Vs Four Horsemen coming up next.
- Commercials
- Kevin Sullivan/Hugh Morrus Vs Brian Pillman/Arn Anderson
- Footage of the attack by the DoD last week on their opponents this week.
- Pillman really pulls this "nutty" character off very well.
- Commercials
- Pillman/Arn will also be in tag team action on Saturday Night!
- This Morrus fellow is pretty big man...
- Morrus takes both Horsemen down with gorilla press slams early on.
- Arn comes in and connects with the spine buster on Morrus.
- Morrus continues to get double-teamed for several minutes.
- Morrus tags in Sullivan, and Sullivan/Pillman just start clobbering on each other.
- Sullivan is trying to rip the nose off of Pillman, until they are pulled apart.
- Um, in the "head scratcher of the night", Arn attempts a spine buster next to a curtain next to the aisle way, but Arn is whacked over the head with a broom...
- Bell sounds after Pillman is whipped a few times by Sullivan.
- Your Winner: Double Disqualification
- Commercials, Flair and Bagwell up next!
- Ric Flair w/ Woman Vs Marcus Bagwell
- Orndorff comes out to the announcers table and says "you never know when payback will get ya'". Obviously he hit Arn with the broom.
- Commercials.
- Hogan has gone to the hospital, just thought you all cared.
- Punch, chop, chop, punch, boot, by Flair.
- Clothesline, Clothesline, Clothesline, by Bagwell...
- Thrilling isn't it? Bagwell with guess what... another clothesline on the floor!
- Flair Flop after few rights by Bagwell.
- Backdrop, dropkick by Bagwell.
- Bagwell oddly goes over the ropes after what appeared to be a botched attempt to be thrown over the top.
- Bagwell catches Flair on the top turnbuckle and slams him down, like everyone else does.
- Wow, Bagwell actually connects with a top rope superplex.
- After Bagwell misses a splash off the apron, Flair locks the figure four in, and that's it...
- Your Winner: Ric Flair
- Flair knocks the referee down and continues the hold, until Savage comes out for the save.
- Replay of the match.
- For the WCW World Heavyweight Tag Team Title: Road Warriors Vs (champs) Sting/Lex Luger
- I wonder if Sting watches WCW television? Because if he were to, he would notice that Luger isn't a nice guy.
- Sting with a middle rope flying clothesline early on, on Animal.
- Luger and Hawk quickly get tagged in. Hawk no-sells a pile driver by Luger.
- Hawk later stumbled on connecting with a fist drop, that Luger still sells.
- Sting wipes out Hawk with a Stinger Splash, that sure was quick.
- Not the match, just the fact that Hawk could be knocked out after someone leaping on them.
- Luger shows his cheating side by pulling the ropes down as Animal is sent into the ropes. Sting doesn't appear to approve of this.
- Luger continues to work on the back of Animal with blows and a scoop slam...
- The arena loses power for a second, and we're back...
- Sting with the longest front face hook of all time on Animal
- Jimmy Hart comes running down, with something in his hand.
- Luger comes in and Animal comes back with a back suplex.
- Hawk runs in and attacks Sting for breaking the count up.
- Animal no-sells a vertical suplex by Luger, and Hawk is brawling with Sting on the floor.
- Luger hits Animal with a lead pipe or something that Hart brought down... he gets the pin and it's over.
- Your Winners: And still WCW World Heavyweight Tag Champs, Sting/Lex Luger
- Sting doesn't look too pleased with how he just won, but accepts it anyway!
- Gene comes in for an interview with Road Warriors.
- Hawk already, ten seconds after the match, wants to face the winner of the Sting/Luger and Harlem Heat match at Super Brawl.
- Hawk says that you don't want to piss them off basically...
- Gene repeats what they just told us.
- Eric tries to sell the Hogan injury, Super Brawl, two cage matches...
- Mongo rambles... Music plays... see ya!
- The Good: Benoit getting a lot, and I mean a lot of offense in tonight. Perhaps pushing him to the upper card as he took complete control of Savage before the ending. Bagwell also looked pretty good tonight. I actually got this recap done faster than the others!
- The Bad: The rather stupid DoD tag match.
- The Ugly: Paul Orndorff segment of hitting Arn with a broom. WCW tried to hide the fact that it was Paul, but then ten seconds later, he comes out and says it was him. Not good.
Remember, if you don't like this version of how I do the results, just e-mail me and tell me. If you like it better, tell me that, too.
