WCW Saturday Night - Saturday, March 9th, 1996
- You may be asking yourself, and me for that matter, where is Nitro from March 4th 1996? Simple, it was pre-empted. For what? I wouldn't know. Mostly likely some stupid movie.
- Uncensored is coming up on the 24th I believe. How many matches have been announced? Zero. One has been rumored, as a Doomsday Day type of match. Most likely on this edition of Saturday Night Gene will enlighten everyone with at least "one blockbuster match".
- http://colling1989.proboards41.com/v45index.cgi? For WWF, ECW and other promotion recaps. Tell your friends, and family, or just random people on the street.
- http://bigelow34.proboards99.com/index.cgi for pretty much anything that can be discussed. Great forum, and great people, join the fun.
- Alright, sit back, grab a drink and chips and enjoy the action.. Well, at least reading the action.
- Saturday Night opening video, oddly enough we get highlights from WCW {Pro}, which was earlier in the morning.
- Sting had Flair in the figure-four, and Luger comes out and attacks Flair causing the DQ and blows Sting's chance of being champion.
- What drama.
- Dusty and Tony go over what we just saw. Dusty blabbers. Tony makes some sense.
- Apparently there is a eight man tag team main event tonight. With whom? Again I don't know.
- For the WCW Television Championship: (champion) Johnny B. Badd w/Kimberly Vs Lex Luger
- Badd questions Kimberly what she was doing on Nitro from 2-26-1996, when she had a few white roses, clearly showing affection to... I don't want to type it... The BM.. You should know what that stands for by now.
- Hmm. Why the hell is Luger going for the Television Title? He doesn't even bring out his Tag Title strap. I hope to God Luger doesn't win the TV Title.
- Luger tries using the ropes to get the quick win, but Nick Patrick realizes this.
- Badd nearly picks up the win following a power bomb.
- Another near fall following a double axe handle.
- During the match we see DDP with Jimmy Hart by the entrance way.
- Badd with a cross body on the floor, and DDP Diamond Cutters Badd on the floor.
- Oh God, Luger goes for the cover, and gets the 1-2-3.
- You've got to be kidding me. Please? I'm begging, please. No!
- Your Winner: And NEW WCW World Television Champion, Lex Luger via pinfall
- Lee Marshall is standing with Johnny, and Johnny is not a happy camper.
- Johnny accepts Page's challenge at Uncensored.
- Badd even yells at Kimberly, so much for being a nice guy. Heel turn anyone?
- Commercials
- Faces of Fear Vs Road Warriors
- Back and forth match here, even going to the floor for a brief moment.
- Barbarian with a power bomb on Hawk.
- Well, Animal protects Hawk from a double team move way too early, making Barbarian look ridiculous as he had enough time to clearly not hit his own partner (Meng)
- Animal sends Barbarian across the ring, Hawk with clothesline off the top rope and gains the pinfall.
- It should be noted that Hawk wasn't the legal man.
- Your Winners: Road Warriors via pinfall
- Randy Savage, BM and Hulk Hogan cut a promo for Nitro this week
- Commercials
- Gene is with Jimmy Hart. Jimmy has a huge surprise. Hart talks about Sting being upset about Sting making Luger choose between Hart and himself.
- Hart says that he controls Luger's life, via a contract.
- Jimmy says that there isn't going to be a street fight, since Hart controls Luger matches.
- A lawyer agrees with everything that Hart just said. Luger comes over with his newly won TV Title.
- Luger appears to be upset, but not too much, about not being in the street fight.
- "Hard Work" Bobby Walker Vs Alex Wright
- This is Bobby Walker's WCW debut. He seemingly has to force the fans to slap his hands since they do not know him.
- Walker appears to be a boxer or kick boxer or something.
- Tony puts over Walker as being a "hard working graduate from The Power Plant". I'm pretty sure everyone works hard to become a wrestler, maybe every single wrestler should have that nickname.
- Ha. Wright beats Walker in literally not even two minutes.
- Tony says that Walker looked good. Too bad looking good and being good are two different things.
- Wright wins with the German suplex. Walker has some more hard working to do.
- Your Winner: Alex Wright via pinfall
- Jim Duggan cuts a promo for Nitro.
- Commercials
- We come back to see highlights from last week with Madusa laying out Col. Robert Parker.
- Blue Bloods (Eaton/Taylor) with Lord Steven Regal Vs Public Enemy (Rock/Grunge)
- Well, Public Enemy are acting as the baby faces in this match, but are they still heels?
- During the match, Fit Finlay comes running down and chases his opponent at Uncensored, Steven Regal, to the backstage area.
- Rocco Rock with a somersault splash on Eaton, through a table, thus causing the DQ.
- Your Winners: Blue Bloods via disqualification
- Another Savage, BM and Hogan promo
- Commercials
- Chris Benoit Vs Eddie Guerrero
- Guerrero with a few offensive moves, spinning head scissors and clothesline to note.
- Benoit fights back with a back breaker. Benoit wrenches down with a Boston Crab.
- Benoit chokes Eddie with a television camera cord, and misses the flying head butt.
- Eddie nearly picks up the win following a hurricanrana.
- For the second time tonight, Tony calls the German suplex a Dragon suplex. He actually corrected himself this time, however.
- Eddie with the "jackknife" as Tony calls it for the win. Frog splash to normal people.
- Apparently, Eddie now gets a US Title shot against Konnan.
- Your Winner: Eddie Guerrero via pinfall
- Gene interviews Eddie, and Eddie wants to win the US Title for the fans that have supported him. I would want to win for the paycheck.
- Time for the weekly "Former WCW wrestler now WWF wrestler getting beaten up" as Sting beats up Steve Austin.
- Commercials
- Gene is backstage with Hogan, Savage and I will assume eventually BM.
- Hogan just does his usual crap about the Horsemen and whatnot.
- Hogan apparently accepts the match against the Alliance to Destroy Hulkamania.
- BM comes over and says something that I don't really even know what it was. Thus I will not mention it.
- BM, Savage and Hogan Vs Anderson, Sullivan and Flair...
Nasty Boys Vs PE...
Johnny B. Badd Vs Luger...
Giant Vs Duggan...
All on WCW Nitro!
- Hogan video package, as if we do not get enough of Hogan weekly.
- My God, yet ANOTHER promo by Savage, BM and Hogan.
- Commercials
- Gene does another Control Center, which I didn't cover the first time.
- Doomsday match is apparently a four cage match.
- Sting needs a partner when he faces Road Warriors in a Street Fight.
- Konnan Vs Eddie Guerrero for the US Title
- Madusa Vs Col Robert Parker
- Regal Vs Finlay
- See, I told you. Start off with 0-1 confirmed matches to basically the complete card.
- VK Wall Street Vs Joey Maggs w/Teddy Long
- Well, this lasts about a minute and a half.
- VK wins with the lariat.
- Your Winner: VK Wall Street via pinfall
- The Giant cuts a promo on Duggan
- Commercials
- We come back for a WCW Motor Sports update.
- Funny that they actually mention that the car basically sucked, and came nearly in last because of a "crash".
- Pat Tanaka Vs Disco Inferno
- Well, Inferno had control on the legs, then gets up and dances and loses to the only offense from Tanaka with a school boy.
- Yawn.
- Your Winner: Pat Tanaka via pinfall
- Jimmy Hart is standing with Gene. Oh yeah, the new TV Champ Lex Luger is there, also.
- Luger is beginning to think that Jimmy is tainting everything Luger does.
- Jimmy says Luger is nothing without him, basically.
- Jimmy announces that Luger is the fourth man in the Doomsday match.
- Loch Ness comes out and is pissed that Hart replaced him. Ness appears to be going face, already.
- Randy Savage beats the crap out of Steve Austin to continue from when Sting did. This is all to discredit WWF wrestlers, which Austin is.
- Jim Duggan, American Males and Sgt. Craig Pittman Vs Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Kevin Sullivan and Loch Ness
- Well, I wasn't expecting this match to be a eight man squash. But then again this explains why Tony didn't mention who was involved.
- Loch Ness isn't out with his team, considering he shoved Jimmy Hart moments ago.
- The jobbers of the match start off with some offense taking care of the heels.
- Eventually, and obviously, the heels take control.
- Bagwell with one of the weakest clotheslines I have ever seen on Flair.
- All eight men get involved, with Double A connecting with the spine buster on Riggs for the three count.
- The heels continue the attack on the jobbers.
- Your Winners: Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Kevin Sullivan and Loch Ness (who never appeared) via pinfall
- The heels have straps and beat up everyone in the ring, including Doug Dillinger. Good.
- Gene is with the Horsemen and Sullivan, who cut a promo on Hulk, Savage and BM about the strap match coming up.
- End of show
- The Good: That all the matches weren't "squashes" but rather had people everyone knows, for the most part.
- The Bad: Luger being the TV champion.
- The Ugly: Loch Ness is already a baby face, and seeing about six different promos by Hogan, Savage and BM. They even had an actual interview. No need for six different promos.
