WCW {Pro} - Saturday, April 20th, 1996
By Cody M.
[Editor's Note: DDT Digest reader Cody M. found an old {Pro} tape from April of 1996 and wrote up a report on it. I posted it in chronological order with Bob's 1996 recaps.]
- {Pro} opens with footage from this past Monday night's Nitro, in which we saw Hulk Hogan slamming The Giant.
- {Pro} opening plays, and we're joined by Chris Cruise, Dusty Rhodes, and Larry Zbyszko.
- The announcers talk for a bit about last Monday's Nitro, and Hogan slamming The Giant.
- Match 1: Faces Of Fear (Meng & Barbarian) vs. The American Males (Marcus Bagwell & Scotty Riggs)
- Bagwell and Barbarian start off the match.
- Bagwell goes for a cross body early on in the match, but is caught by Barbarian, but Bagwell somehow manages to shift his weight, and get Barbarian down for a two count.
- Meng and Scotty Riggs quickly both get tagged into the match, and Meng just throws Riggs out of the ring with ease.
- Meng goes to hit an elbow drop on Riggs, but Riggs rolls out of the way.
- Bagwell gets tagged in, but quickly gets kicked down in the corner by Meng.
- Barbarian now in, and he nails a vicious clothesline on Bagwell.
- Both members of the Faces Of Fear are now in the ring, and they double team on Bagwell, and end up hitting a double headbutt on him.
- Meng knocks Bagwell down on the floor, and Meng and Barbarian double team on Scotty Riggs, in which the referee has had enough, and calls for the bell.
- Marcus Bagwell then comes back to the ring with a steel chair, but gets knocked down by the Faces Of Fear.
- Your Winners: The American Males win via DQ.
- Slamboree Control Center With Mean Gene.
- Mean Gene just talks about the upcoming Lethal Lottery, which will take place at Slamboree.
- By the way, after the control center they went to commercial, and I just have to say I miss the old Macho Man Slim Jim commercials.
- Match 2: Pat Tanaka vs. Bobby Walker
- Pat Tanaka comes out with the music that Goldberg would later use... pretty interesting, to think that Pat Tanaka used that before Goldberg did.
- Pretty slow paced for much of the match, with Pat Tanaka getting most of the offense in.
- The end would come with Bobby Walker hitting a cross body off the top, and getting an upset victory over Pat Tanaka.
- Your Winner: Bobby Walker via pinfall with a cross-body off the top rope.
- Monday Nitro highlights.
- Highlights of Hulk Hogan ripping apart Jimmy Hart's jacket, and then beating up Hart...
- Highlights of Sting/Lex Luger vs. The Giant/ Ric Flair from Nitro as well.
- Match 3: The Dungeon Of Doom (One Man Gang, Hugh Morrus, and Kevin Sullivan) vs. 3 Guys (They never announced their names)
- Not much of a match here, the DOD pretty much destroyed all three of them pretty quickly.
- The end would come when Hugh Morrus would hit the No Laughing Matter on one of the poor guys, and tag in One Man Gang who would hit a 747 splash on him.
- Your Winners: Dungeon Of Doom
- More Nitro talk from the announcers.
- Match 4: Belfast Bruiser (Fit Finlay) vs. Dave Taylor
- Is it just me or did Finlay look older back then?
- Before the match even started the Belfast Bruiser ran up the entranceway, and was about to fight Dave Taylor before Taylor could even make it to the ring. Nick Patrick restores order, and Taylor gets to the ring.
- Some hard rights in the corner by Belfast Bruiser on Taylor.
- Taylor goes for an armbar on the Belfast Bruiser, but Bruiser quickly reverses the hold, and Taylor finds himself flat on his back.
- They go for a Test Of Strength, but as Taylor is locking up with the Belfast Bruiser, Bruiser kicks the leg of Taylor.
- Dave Taylor lifts Bruiser up over his head, and slams him down.
- Nice European Uppercut by Taylor to Belfast Bruiser.
- Belfast Bruiser has a nice comeback, and then he drops Taylor on his head with a Tombstone Piledriver.
- Sweet Revenge Slow-Mo Replay Of The Day: Belfast Bruiser's tombstone on Taylor... presented by Twix, by the way.
- Your Winner: Belfast Bruiser via pinfall after a Tombstone Piledriver.
- Match 5: WCW World TV Championship Match: Lex Luger © w/Jimmy Hart vs. Kurasawa
- The announcers claim that Lex's TV Title is on the line, but it was obvious that this match was taped long before Luger had won that belt, as he didn't even have it with him.
- The announcers also keep hyping up some cartoon appearance the Macho Man was going to make on some old Cartoon Network show entitled Dial-M For Money. I'm somehow glad that I don't remember this.
- Luger takes down Kurasawa.
- Kurasawa comes back with a series of chops to Luger's chest, and some stiff kicks to Luger that actually take Luger out of the ring, and onto the floor.
- Luger comes back into the ring, and gives Kurasawa a thumb to the eye.
- Kurasawa works on Luger's arm.
- Luger comes back with a kick to the gut, and then a knee lift to the gut of Kurasawa.
- Kurasawa picks up Luger, and slams him down.
- Jimmy Hart gets up on the ring apron, and distracts the referee, long enough for Luger tp pick up the megaphone and hit Kurasawa with it.
- Luger with the Torture Rack, and Kurasawa submits.
- Your Winner: Lex Luger by submission, and still TV champion!
- The announcers talk about what just happened, and then talk a little about WCW Saturday Night, and remind us all to watch that tonight on the same station as {Pro}, TBS.
