WCW Monday Nitro - Monday, May 13th, 1996
- WCW Slamboree is just six days away.
- As Tony Schiavone would say "this pay per view will go down as the biggest in this sport".
- Luger gets his third attempt at a title shot. Is a third time a charm?
- Just imagine Luger/Sting fighting for the World Title at Slamboree. It would make sense and add to the bickering between the two over recent months.
- I doubt a title change will happen. Considering that The Giant just won the strap on the 29th of April, and has defended against only Bagwell and Duggan.
- I still don't get the point of the lethal lottery tournament to have a number one contender ship, when guys who are in the tournament, are getting title shots beforehand.
- People have to remember what they are booking here.
- I'm going to save my ramblings for the PPV itself, on with the show.
- WCW Nitro Opening Video
- Eric talks about how Luger literally camped out in Tennessee so he wouldn't miss his shot.
- There is even a brief video of Luger "outside" swatting bugs away.
- Steve and Bobby join in and just hype up the main event.
- Public Enemy w/o entrance Vs Steiner Brothers
- Whenever you do not get a entrance, and you're not jobbers, your going to lose.
- Steiner Brothers actually come out to a kind of dead reaction, there are a few people cheering, but a good 75% of the people are dead.
- Scott with a overhead belly-to-belly suplex on Grunge.
- Scott with a tilt-a-whirl slam on Rock, several moments later.
- Grunge comes in and connects with a electric chair slam. Rock with a middle rope diving head butt.
- Scott Steiner is doubled teamed for a little while. Rock misses a Swanton Bomb.
- Rick Steiner comes in and cleans house.
- Eric Bischoff mentions that Nitro will be going to two hours. 8pm to 10pm.
- Rock dives over the top but lands on his partner Grunge, instead of Rick.
- Scott with a Frankensteiner on Rock for the win
- Your Winners: Steiner Brothers via pinfall
- Commercials
- Chris Benoit Vs David Taylor
- Taylor gains control a little while into the match while on the floor, sending Benoit into the guard railing and whatnot.
- Taylor rolls in and taunts the crowd. We see another electric chair slam, in back-to-back matches, when Taylor connects with one on Benoit.
- Mongo leaves during the match to interview the arriving Randy Savage.
- Dragon suplex by Benoit to win the match.
- Your Winner: Chris Benoit via pinfall
- Extended squash.
- Commercials
- Gene is outside, where Savage is trying to enter the building, but he has been barred.
- Mongo comes over and says that Flair has made a mistake by coming after family.
- Mongo says he has a plan.
- Gene says that Savage has lost his mind. Savage doesn't care about the money.
- Savage doesn't mind teaming up with Flair, and he will win the Lethal Lottery.
- Another "Blood Runs Cold" promo video. This is obviously hyping up a new wrestler.
- Commercials
- Ric Flair Vs VK Wall Street
- VK with a backdrop early on for the early advantage. VK works on the leg, as Nitro goes to commercial.
- On the floor, VK continues his offense. Flair is power slammed off the top and another backdrop.
- VK with a few rollups for a near falls. On the floor, VK goes for a knee smash on Flair, who is against the ring post. Flair moves, and VK hits his knee.
- Clearly this is the beginning of the end.
- Just as I type that, Flair locks in the figure four, with leverage from Woman and Elizabeth to win the match.
- Your Winner: Ric Flair via submission
- Gene is standing over by the table, the same one from last week.
- Flair kisses the arms of Elizabeth, and says that he isn't the dead man.
- Gene mentions Debra, Mongo's wife.
- Flair puts himself as being a QB, and showcases his wide receivers.
- Commercials
- For the WCW World Heavyweight Title: Lex Luger Vs © The Giant
- Neither man get their entrances on TV.
- And yes, Luger is actually in the ring.
- Giant isn't affected by a few shoulder blocks, and he clotheslines Luger.
- Luger with one boot, and quickly goes for a power slam, as if that is logical.
- Luger leaps off the middle rope, but is caught by Giant who rams Luger back first into a couple of corners.
- Flair is again at the table with Woman and Elizabeth.
- Luger manages to knock Giant off the apron to the floor. Giant comes right back and brings Luger over to Flair's table.
- Giant proceeds to choke slam Luger through the table.
- Referee sounds for the bell.
- Flair is on the guard railing, backing off.
- Sting leaps over and protects Luger.
- Your Winner: No Contest, The Giant retains the WCW World Heavyweight Title
- We go to Eric, Bobby and Mongo as they are all shocked seeing that.
- Bobby tells Sting to worry about himself, and not Luger.
- Eric does a last minute plug for WCW Slamboree.
- End of Show
- The Good: Nitro is going two hours. Choke slam through the table.
- The Bad: For Luger finally getting his title shot, he sure was dominated.
- The Ugly: Public Enemy wrestling without the "hardcore" stipulation. Never a pleasant sight.
