WCW Monday Nitro - Monday, June 24th, 1996
- Just recently created a blog where I have all my recaps/reviews, whatever you want to call them of TNA from Day One posted. Hopefully, someday it will become what DDT Digest is for WCW.
- http://chroniclesoftna.bravejournal.com/, that is the website.
- Also, go to my friend Matt's new website www.pdrwrestling.com Great stuff on that website as well.
- Enough of the plugs, let's do this!
- WCW Nitro opening video
-
- We are LIVE from Charlotte, North Carolina, for some WCW Monday Nitro!
- Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko are on commentary for hour number one.
- Schiavone mentions that Eric Bischoff is still hurt from the attack at the Great American Bash 1996.
- "We Want Flair" chant starts up as we go to a video from Great American Bash.
- The video is just the punch to the guy from Ramon and the power bomb off the stage by Diesel.
- That's right, WCW has yet to name them so I will call them by the names the competition called them until otherwise. It's been a month.
- Gene is with Sting, Lex Luger and Randy Savage. They are all sporting face paint. Savage says that WCW is their country. Savage says they need to divide and conquer. He leaves so that Gene can talk to Sting and Luger.
- A video highlighting Ramon's debut and his being slapped by Sting. Sting wants to know what the deal is about this third name.
- Luger butchers the initials of WCW. Luger puts themselves over as the very best.

- Regal hip tosses Rocco down early on and decides to taunt Rocco. Regal is rewarded with a dropkick.

- The referee gets distracted by some brawling on the floor, so Grunge hits Taylor with his cast to win the match.
- Your Winners: Public Enemy via pinfall
- After the match, Public Enemy wave their arms in the air. We also get a production miscue showing the format of the show!
- Harlem Heat cut a promo on the triangle tag team title match scheduled for later on tonight.
- Commercials
- Kevin Sullivan w/Jimmy Hart Vs Chip Amie
- Well, Sullivan throws poor Chip into the crowd and beats up Chip all the way to the concession area.
- Sullivan is trying to send Chip into the ladies room, but Doug Dillinger prevents Sullivan from doing so.
- Sullivan makes his way back to the ring, without Chip.
- Your Winner: Chip Amie via disqualification
- Gene is standing in the ring with Jimmy Hart and eventually Kevin Sullivan. Gene mentions Bash at the Beach and their match against Chris Benoit and Arn Anderson.

- Promo video for Glacier who is coming to WCW sometime in July.
- Our world is about to change.
- Hardwork Bobby Walker vs. WCW Cruiserweight Champion Dean Malenko
- WCW's version of Virgil, Bobby Walker graces the television once again. Last I checked he was a top prospect for WCW and boy, is he horrible.
- Walker takes Malenko down with a Japanese arm drag. Malenko recovers quickly with a back elbow and a scoop slam for a near fall.
- Malenko locks in a camel clutch, hits a power bomb and locks in the Texas Cloverleaf.

- Inferno enters the ring and plays to the crowd on the middle rope. Malenko catapults Walker into Inferno who drops to the floor.
- Malenko with a northern lights suplex with a bridge to win the match.
- Your Winner: Dean Malenko via pinfall
- Can't get enough of Gene? Well, here he is again in the ring talking to Dean Malenko.
- Inferno looks at his gold record and it appears like he may hit Malenko, but Malenko sees him.
- Inferno tells Malenko that he came out because Walker and Malenko were stinking up the joint.
- Inferno says that Malenko may have a thousand holds, but Disco Inferno just sold million CD's.

- Commercials
- Arn Anderson/Chris Benoit w/Mongo Vs Rock n' Roll Express
- If Kevin Greene is looking for Mongo, he should have been able to find him by now.
- Hour #2 starts up just as the match begins. The crowd actually boos the Rock n' Roll Express. Bobby Heenan joins the commentary team.
- Benoit and Morton started the match off, and lets just say Morton clearly couldn't keep up with Benoit. Morton either missed several spots or wasn't in the right place for them.
- Horsemen control Morton for several moments as they attacked the man stuck in the 1980s on the floor.
- After six straight punches from Morton, it only takes one shot from Gibson to knock Anderson down. Interesting.
- The referee is distracted by Morton and Anderson brawling. This allows Mongo to hit Gibson with the briefcase and Benoit picks up the win.
- Your Winner: Chris Benoit and Arn Anderson via pinfall

- For the Lord of the Ring (that no one cares about): DDP (w/ ring) vs. Alex Wright (w/o a crowd reaction)
- Page controls Wright early on taking Wright down with a gut buster. Wright manages to move a punt kick and follows up with a atomic drop and several uppercuts.

- Sting and Lex Luger cut a promo regarding their tag team title match taking place next.
- Commercials
- For the WCW World Tag Team Championships: ©Sting/Lex Luger vs. Harlem Heat vs. Steiner Brothers
- This match is apparently no-disqualification rules.
- Tony considers the face paint by Sting and Luger "war paint". I thought it was just regular paint for Sting. Unless, Sting has been preparing for this for many, many years.
- Booker and Scott Steiner start the match off. Booker nails Scott with a super kick early on but misses a spin kick.
- Scott with a double underhook power bomb but Luger breaks up the count.
- Ray and Rick Steiner tag in. Ray takes Rick down with several rights and stomps. Rick takes Ray down with a German suplex and a clothesline for a near fall.
- Scott actually tags out to Sting, not sure why he would possibly do that as he can't win the match now (which Tony actually mentions).
- Harlem Heat double team Sting in the corner. Booker misses a spin kick and crotches himself on the rope. Sting wiggles the ropes and delivers a "inverted power bomb" called by Tony. It was a atomic drop.
- Booker blocks a splash by Sting by getting his knees up.
- Commercial.
- Sting is still being dominated by Harlem Heat. Ray power slams Sting down and gets a near fall.
- This match is going so well... "We Want Flair" starts up.
- Sting tries to battle back but Booker enters and nails Sting with a spinning leg lariat and gets a near fall.
- Sting avoids a splash from Ray and tags in Luger who cleans house to a mute reaction, really.
- Diesel and Razor Ramon show up with baseball bats.
- Police run down and prevent anything from happening.
- However, Booker T has rolled Lex Luger up behind everyone and gets the three count!
- Your Winners and NEW WCW World Tag Team Champions: Harlem Heat via pinfall
- After the match, Harlem Heat walk right by Razor and Diesel, but nothing happens.
- Genius.
- Tony says that he is scared to death about what is happening.
- Tony and Bobby hype up the shows that no one cares about. By that I mean WCW {Pro}, Saturday Night and whatever else they have.
- Tony puts over WCW as being able to take care of The Outsiders.
- That's a wrap!
- The Good: The Barbarian sure looks good. If WCW wanted to, he could be used as a credible big man heel. That overhead belly-to-belly suplex off the top is a sick move. Harlem Heat winning the tag belts. You would think when police enter the ring, though, that the bell would sound but, oh well, Sting and Luger do not need the titles.
- The Bad: The first hour was very, very lackluster. Seemed like a Saturday Night show.
- The Ugly:Kevin Greene getting booed by his new teams fan base. That is never a good sign.
