This Week In The WCW
This Week In The WCW
WCW Monday Night Nitro - Monday, 10/21/96
- "Lionheart" Chris Jericho def. "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton via pinfall after a dropkick from the top rope right in the mush.
- "The Man of 1,000 Holds" Dean Malenko def. Jimmy Graffiti via submission with a Texas Cloverleaf in a surprising non-squash match.
- "Diamond" Dallas Page def. Sgt. Craig "Pit Bull" Pittman via pinfall following a Diamond Cutter. I've never seen a manager (Teddy Long) ever have a stable completely full of jobbers before.
- Jeff Jarrett def. Ron Studd via submission with a figure-four leglock. Ric Flair came to the ring and fawned over Jeff Jarrett and said he'd be in Jarrett's corner in Vegas. I hate to break it to Jarrett, but he's not in Ric Flair's league. Not by a long shot.
- Lex Luger def. The Roadblock via submission in the Human Torture Rack - A couple comments here:
- The Roadblock, was, thankfully wearing a shirt this time. Somehow, I don't think we'll see him shirtless again.
- Luger failed in his first two attempts to get the 350-pounder into the Human Torture Rack. I think they were missed spots.
- The Roadblock is definitely a rookie. At one point, he just stood there looking at Luger not knowing what to do and Luger had to tell The Roadblock to punch him.
- I do like The Roadblock's gimmick of actually bringing a roadblock to the ring.
- Harlem Heat def. American Males when Scotty Riggs was pinned in a typical Harlem Heat screw-job finish. The only highlight was that they pretty much blew the screw-job spot.
- The Faces of Fear def. The Fantastics via pinfall when Barbarian pinned Tommy Rogers in a complete squash. It was great to see The Fantastics on the losing end of a squash. The highlight was when Meng back body-dropped Bobby Fulton into a Powerbomb by Barbarian. And, hey, guess what? Now, according to the crack WCW announcing crew, the Barbarian is suddenly from the Isle of Tonga like Meng! Too bad The Barbarian speaks Spanish.
- The fake Sting was fighting J.L. and had him in a Scorpion Death-Lock when the real Sting came out dressed in black and pummelled the fake String while the nWo (sans Hulk "I had something better to do" Hogan) stood around the ring and watched. The nWo offered to let Sting join and he say they "May or may not" be able to afford him. With that, he walked off.
- Chris Benoit was to fight Savage. Savage came out in street clothes. Well, street clothes for Savage, anyway. Bischoff forced Savage to watch a video of Hogan and The Giant manhandling Elizabeth. With that, Savage told Hogan "Life is fragile" and walked off. Another odd ending.
WCW {Pro} Wrestling - Sunday, 10/20/96
- Big Bubba Rogers def. Eddie Jackie via pinfall with a Bubba Slam
- Rick Steiner def. Booker T. with a rollup. Afterwards, Booker T. and Stevie Ray (Harlem Heat) did a mudhole stomp on Rick Steiner.
- Kevin Sullivan, Hugh Morrus, and The Faces of Fear (Meng & Barbarian) def. Marcus Alexander Bagwell, Marc Starr, Steve Armstrong, and Scott Armstrong when Hugh Morrus pinned Scott Armstrong with his No Laughing Matter. During the match, the announcers talked about rumors of someone high up in WCW being behind the nWo. More credence to the Eric Bischoff turn that I think is coming.
- Arn Anderson and Chris Benoit def. The Nasty Boys when Anderson pinned Jerry Sags after a flying headbutt from Chris Benoit.
WCW Saturday Night - Saturday, 10/19/96
- Diamond Dallas Page def. Scotty Riggs via pinfall after a diamond cutter -After the match, DDP did a great politically incorrect interview about Eddy Guerrero
- Dean Malenko def. "Das Wunderpinned" Alex Wright via pinfall with a double underhook rollover
- Jeff Jarrett def. Steve Armstrong via submission with a figure-four leglock
- The Faces of Fear def. Mike Enos and Buckhouse Buck via pinfall - this one was a snoozer
- Lex Luger def. Mark Starr via submission in the Human Torture Rack - Who could have guessed?
- Ron Studd def. Chavo Guerrero Jr. via pinfall immediately following a vertical suplex - yes, that's right, he get his first win with a vertical suplex - this match was notable for seeing someone over 7' tall and over 300 lbs. squash a guy 5' 4" and about 170 lbs.
- Six def. some jobber via pinfall after a spinning kick to the head - this was an nWo match
- Chris Benoit def. Craig "Pit Bull" Pittman via pinfall after a flying headbutt
- Arn Anderson and Woman did a great interview seeing Elizabeth was no longer with the Horseman and how Luger had no guts. Of course, the interview ended with the patented Arn Anderson thumb across the throat.
- Chris Jericho def. Marcus Alexander Bagwell via pinfall after a flying bodypress - it's looking like the American Males are heading for a split with Bagwell turning heel and Riggs staying a face
- The Roadblock was to fight Randy Savage but Savage was a no-show - The Roadblock then went backstage and grabbed Dusty/Dale/Scott Wolfe and brought him into the ring and squashed him - The Roadblock REALLY needs to wear a shirt, a guy that fat and gross being shirtless should be against the law
