This Week In The WCW
This Week In The WCW
WCW Monday Night Nitro - Monday, 11/4/96
- The show started off with The Sad Mime (Sting) in the rafters with The Giant, DiBiase, and Vincent watching him from the stands.
- There was also an announcement that tonight would start the first round of a tournament to crown a World Ladies' Heavyweight Champion.
- Marcus Alexander Bagwell pinned Brad Armstrong when he got the better of their both attempting a flying body press in the middle of the ring after coming off the ropes.
- Bischoff must want the nWo to get over with the fans as their gimmick of hanging out with the crowd is winning them a lot of fans when, theoretically, everyone is supposed to hate them.
- Diamond Dallas Page pinned Ice Train following a Diamond Cutter.
- While Nick Patrick, the referee, was distracted, Hall and Nash rushed the ring and beat Ice Train with the tag team belts. The beating had no immediate effect and while Ice Train was goading them back into the ring to give him some more, DDP snuck up behind him and nailed him with a Diamond Cutter.
- Dean Malenko used an Oklahoma Roll to pin Scotty Riggs to retain the World Cruiserweight Title.
- Riggs was pinned immediately after being tossed back in the ring by his team tag partner, Marcus Alexander Bagwell, after Malenko had knocked Riggs to the floor.
- Bagwell's spot in this match makes his rumored upcoming heel turn all but definite.
- Chris "Crippler" Benoit pinned Hector Guerrero (Eddy's older brother) with a rollup using the ropes for leverage when Hector was distracted after Woman pulled his hair.
- In the replay of The Giant's soliloquy from the stands from last week's Nitro, I noticed something I hadn't seen before. There was a guy im the stands who looked just like Chris Elliott screaming his head off with "Snap Into It" painted onto his bald head. Pretty cool.
- In the post-match interview, Jarrett was there with Benoit and McMichael. Jarrett starting preaching and Benoit cut him off to send the message that Jarrett was not a Horseman. McMichael reinforced the message and he and Benoit walked off. Jarrett then continued on like nothing had happened. The Sad Mime watched from an entrance portal.
- Medusa pinned Reina Jubuki with a German suplex and a bridge in a first-round match up for the women's title.
- Heenan on Jubuki's feathered outfit: "She's a beautiful woman. Half woman, half goose."
- Zero (a very butch Japanese woman wrestler) appeared at ringside with Sonny Ono.
- Sonny Ono on Medusa: "Medusa is a chemical dumping ground. Full of peroxide and falling plastic."
- Chris Jericho pinned Michael Wallstreet (Rotundo/Rotunda) with a small package.
- All night long, there's been a humanoid in the front row clearly flipping the bird to various wrestlers throughout the matches.
- There was an interview with Nick Patrick and his lawyer, Al Sharp (maybe a play on Al Sharpton?). Both Jericho and Teddy Long disrupted it. Sharp pointed out how Teddy was a referee and got suspended. The announcers acted shocked. I'm just glad somebody pointed that out given all the complaining Long's been doing about Patrick.
- When the camera panned to DiBiase and Vincent in the crowd, you could clearly see someone dangling a large Hulk Hogan doll in a noose.
- Lex Luger pinned Booker T. with a roll up when Colonel Parker, who suddenly appeared at ringside, distracted Booker T.
- Eric Bischoff called from Portland, Oregon (yeah, right) and said negotiations for a Piper-Hogan match were being stonewalled by Piper's managers and lawyers. Bischoff said he would be talking with Piper directly the following week.
- Hogan then came out and, of course, did not wrestle. Rather, he did nothing but show a clip of his new movie to promote it. The man is a walking commercial.
WCW {Pro} Wrestling - Sunday, 11/3/96
WCW Saturday Night - Saturday, 11/2/96
- The show started off talking about Piper's appearance at Halloween Havoc and how Bischoff is trying to sign a match between Piper and Hogan. Looks like tonight's show is going to be a rerun of Halloween Havoc. Schiavone mentioned that Bischoff is going to try to sign the match by Monday night.
- Eddy Guerrero def. Jimmy Grafitti via pinfall following a frog splash.
- Faces of Fear def. The Rock 'n Roll Express via pinfall when The Barbarian pinned Ricky Morton after Meng kicked Morton in the back of the head.
- It never ceases to puzzle me why the crowd ever cheered for the Rock 'n Roll Express, much less today. They actually got a decent pop.
- Joe Gomez defeated The Cheetah Kid via pinfall after a side slam. *yawn*
- "Big" Bubba Rogers and "The Taskmaster" Kevin Sullivan def. Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Jack Boot (the wrestler formerly known as Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker of The State Patrol) via pinfall when Bubba pinned Guerrero. The pinfall followed Sullivan hitting Guerrero with a pair of bolt cutters (just when you thought you'd seen every international object) and Bubba gave Guerrero a Bubba Slam.
- Jeff Jarrett def. John Tenta via pinfall after a bulldog off the top rope.
- The bulldog was a blown spot. Even good camera work couldn't cover up how lame it was.
- "Lord" Steven Regal pinned "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton using the ropes for leverage to retain the World Television Title.
- In the nWo match, The Giant pinned Pat Tanaka after a chokeslam.
- The nWo played it up as if it were a match for the U.S. Title.
- "The Crippler" Chris Benoit pinned "Lionheart" Chris Jericho with a handful of tights after Woman scratched Jericho's eyes.
- Benoit referred to Woman as "Nancy" twice during the post-match interview. The first time, when he called her "Nance", I thought it was a slip-up given Benoit's less-then-stellar interview skills. However, after he did it a second time, it seems it's part of the angle.
- In the post-match interview, Benoit told Sullivan than he had better step aside or else Benoit will cripple him for good. Benoit stated (and rightfully so) that he has chosen not to in the past, even though he had the opportunity.
