This Week In The WCW
This Week In The WCW
WCW Monday Night Nitro - Monday, 12/2/96
- The show started with the Steiner Brothers interrupting Schiavone's and Zbyszko's introduction. Rick challenged Sting to fight him like a man after the Pearl Harbor last week. Scott says he no longer considers Sting a friend after what Sting did to his brother.
- Scott no longer has any tattoos and he doesn't have scars. Were the tattoos fake?
- Glacier pinned Hardbody Henderson after a spinning kick in a very short match.
- The announcers kept talking about how great Glacier's entrance is. Big deal.
- They mentioned Glacier was back after 5 weeks off. Hmm, let's see. Six months of hype, two weeks of work, five weeks of vacation. Nice work if you can get it.
- At least they turn on the lights now when Glacier wrestles.
- Hardbody Henderson seems to have a nice case of gynecomastia going (testosterone-induced breast-tissue growth).
- The Amazing French-Canadians defeated "Desperado" Joe Gomez and The Renegade when Carl Oulette flipped off Rougeau's shoulders onto The Renegade and pinned him. This followed Rougeau piledriving The Renegade.
- There were some nice clear shots of people in the crowd flipping the AFC the bird.
- Joe Gomez' new nickname, "Desperado", must pertain to his pursuit of a win.
- Okerlund interviewed Arn Anderson about Piper. Anderson said that when Piper is on Nitro next week in Charlotte, NC, the Horsemen would be watching his back. And he added, "You don't jump a dog in his own backyard and you don't mess with family."
- The Faces of Fear def. Robert "Marty Feldman Eyes" Gibson and Scotty "Maybe My American Males Tattoo Wasn't Such A Hot Idea After All" Riggs when Barbarian pinned Robert Gibson after a boot to the melon.
- During this match, they had trouble with a replay for the second time in the evening. Live TV is great!
- After the match, Scotty Riggs "chaired a meeting" with Meng, but it had no effect.
- Another replay of the Benoit/Sullivan Baltimore match (see Saturday's report).
- "The Taskmaster" annhiliated an unnamed jobber and pinned him after The Tree of Woe and a Reverse Heimlich (jumping on his gut).
- This was an incredibly stiff match. The jobber really took a beating, including getting nailed with a quart size bottle of water on the back of his head that Sullivan threw really hard.
- In the post-match interview, Sullivan said that although he physically beat Benoit, Benoit emotionally beat Sullivan later that night. According to Sullivan, "Now the equation equals three." Hmmm, are there any serious fans that don't know Sullivan and Woman are happily married?
- "The Man of 1,000 Holds" Dean Malenko made Billy Kidman submit with the Texas Cloverleaf.
- Sonny Ono came out and took photos during the match.
- Jeff Jarrett pinned "Big" Bubba Rogers after kicking Jimmy Hart's megaphone into Bubba's face.
- The Steiners came to the ring and Rick called Sting out and asked him if he wanted to settle it tonight. Sting appeared on the catwalk and nodded and they cut to commercial. Presumably, the fight will come later in the evening.
- Heenan referred to Sting as "The Phantom of WCW".
- The nWo came out and chased off the announcing team and Hall, Nash, and Bischoff took over announcing duties.
- Eddie Guerrero pinned "Squire" Dave Taylor following a frog splash.
- In a blown spot, Taylor accidentally gave Guerrero a couple hard boots to the back.
- When Lee Marshall called in for his 1-800-COLLECT report from Charlotte, NC, Kevin Nash asked, "What is he, live at Arn Anderson's double-wide?"
- "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson pinned Jimmy Powers following a DDT.
- While commentating the match, Hall dared Zbyszko to come out of retirement and face him.
- Throughout the match, the nWo bragged how Sting was going to join them after beating Steiner.
- "The Canadian Crippler" Chris Benoit pinned "Lord" Steven Regal with a German Suplex to advance in the U.S. Heavyweight Title Tournament.
- Regal got his forehead busted wide open early in the match!
- It happened when Regal and Benoit were punching each other in the head.
- Even though it was flowing pretty good, it seemed to be hardway because as soon as it happened, the only view you had of the match was the wide shot from way back.
- Watching the rest of the match sucked (a good ten minutes) because you couldn't see anything.
- Scott Hall kept asking why they panned so far back and wouldn't let it go. This would lead one to believe that the whole thing was actually planned and made to look hardway, causing a "panic" with the camera crew on live TV.
- Presumably, even though Benoit pinned the Television Champion, he did not win the title as no mention of it was made before, during, or after the match even though Regal wore it to the ring.
- Classic nWo comments during the match:
- Hall on Regal's entrance: "Regal always looks like he smelled something".
- Nash on the ascot around Regal's neck: "That that doily off and put it back on your Grandma's table."
- Hall on Bagwell joining the nWo: "We can always use a pretty boy who's a hardcore redneck."
- Arn Anderson, and Steve and Debra McMichael came out after Benoit's match. They confronted Benoit about whether Woman is still a Horseman since she is never around and, when she is, she only escorts Chris. Debra went on a soliloquy about Woman's cheap perfume and incessant chattering about how cute Benoit is. It was a great soliloquy, she's an infinitely better interview than her husband. Benoit gave his word Woman is still a Horseman and they all shook on it.
- "The Total Package" Lex Luger made Rocco Rock submit in The Human Torture Rack.
- After the match, Luger cleaned house on Public Enemy.
- Given the fact that basically both of The Public Enemy both jobbed to Luger in this match, and that Hall, Nash, and Bischoff ragged on the ECW during the match, the rumors of Public Enemy returning to ECW are probably true.
- The Steiners came to the ring to await Sting. Sting came down from the rafters with a baseball bat. After a very short battle, Sting gave Rick Steiner the reverse DDT and went to get his bat. He then shoved Rick Steiner with the bat and handed it to him. Rick went to clock Sting with the bat and Scott stopped him. Scott dropped the bat and Sting picked it up and went over to the nWo, pointed the bat at each of them, and then left the building.
- The WCW seemingly is not making Scott Steiner's injury public as they made no mention of the fact.
- Bischoff's comment on how pumped Scott Steiner is: "I came here in a limo smaller than Scott Steiner".
WCW {Pro} Wrestling - Sunday, 12/1/96
- "Das Blunderpinned" Alex Wright pinned Johnny Swinger with a German Suplex and a bridge.
- Psychosis and Juventud Guerrera def. Galaxy and Ciclope when Guerrera pinned Galaxy after Guerrera springboarded off the top rope and Frankensteined Galaxy from a height of ten feet off Psychosis' shoulders.
- Eddie Guerrero pinned J.L. with a Frog Splash off the top rope.
- "Squire" David Taylor pinned Eddie Jackie with a throw back over the head slam.
- "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson pinned Chavo Guerrero, Jr. with a simple cover while holding the ropes.
- Anderson was able to pin Guerrero as Benoit did a run-in on Guerrero and pummelled him outside the ring while the referee wasn't looking and then tossed Guerrero back in.
- After the match, Eddie Guerrero ran in to have it out with Anderson and was jumped by Benoit.
- As Eddie was getting beaten by Benoit and Anderson, Chavo jumped back in and he and Eddie cleared the ring.
WCW Saturday Night - Saturday, 11/30/96
- "Lionheart" Chris Jericho pinned La Parka with a Crucifix.
- I think La Parka is Hector Guerrero in a mask.
- Okerlund interviewed Lex Luger and Lex Luger questioned Sting's loyalties. Looks like Luger is getting the next reverse DDT from The Crow. Oops, I meant Sting.
- Okerlund interviewed "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart and The Faces Of Fear. Ho-hum.
- "Lord" Steven Regal pinned "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton with a small package using the momentum of a suplex by Eaton.
- Regal retains the WCW World Television Championship.
- Kaoru pinned Sonoko Kato after a moonsault off the top rope.
- Kaoru advances in the tournament to crown the WCW Women's World Champion.
- Thus far, Medusa and Zero have advanced in the tournament as well.
- Konan def. Eddie Guerrero via DQ when Guerrero clocked him with the megaphone after Hart unsuccessfully tried to use it against Guerrero.
- After the match, The Faces of Fear did a run-in and FOF and Konnan did a mudhole stomp on Guerrero.
- Highlights from the Benoit/Sullivan match from Baltimore a week ago were played. The replay wasn't that good except for the Dungeon of Doom coming out of the men's room stalls like horses out of the starting gate at a thoroughbred race.
- Harlem Heat def. "Mean" Mike Enos and Bunkhouse Buck when Booker T. pinned Bunkhouse Buck after a Harlem side kick.
- Sherri grabbed Bunkhouse Buck by the ankle which distracted him enough to allow Booker T. to deliver the kick.
- In the nWo match, Hall and Nash def. Tommy Greco and The Back Stabber when Hall and Nash dogpile pinned The Back Stabber after The Giant came in the ring and chokeslammed him.
- Tommy Greco's weight was given at 140 and his height was given as "not tall enough".
- "Crippler" Chris Benoit made Juventud Guerrera submit with a forward chinlock on the mat following a flying headbutt.
- This match featured two really blown spots, one on a sunset flip and one on a head scissors.
- "Diamond" Dallas Page pinned Scott "Flash" Norton after using an international object on Norton as Norton was back suplexing Page into the ring from the apron.
- When Schiavone referred to it as an outside object, Dusty corrected him to make sure he knew it is called an "international object".
- In the post-match interview by Okerlund, Page called Okerlund "monkey boy".
