WCW Sunday {Pro} - Saturday (this week only), 09/13/97
WCW Sunday {Pro} - Saturday (this week only), 09/13/97
- I'd like to start off by saying thanks to Bill for letting me do this. For months I have been going to house shows, Nitros, and even a few of the pay-per-views that come to my area. When I go to these events, I almost always wrote a little report to Bill, and he always reported it, now I get to do it every week.
- Also, I was out late last night, and got in just in time to catch ECW on my cable system (which comes on a sports channel here). I had only see one ECW show before, and I was not tired when I got in, so I said "What the hay?" To tell you the truth, I don't see what the big fuss is about. The rings are basically trampolines with a blanket to cover it, ropes bought at ACE hardware, and the arena (it wasn't at a bingo hall last night) was your basic elementary school cafeteria. Some of the matches
look neat, but how often do these happen, and with what frequency? I was quite disappointed...in a full hour show, there were three matches. Pitiful.
Anyways...
- Show starts off with the Piper bit last Nitro, taking out Luger and DDP, and putting in the Horseman. I, myself, would rather see DDP and Luger, rather than Mongo and Hennig.
- The commentators for Sunday/Saturday {Pro} are Larry Zbyszko and Scott Hudson.
- La Parka defeats David Sierra with a twisting body spring off the third rope to get a pin.
- David Sierra looks like your typical stereotyped wrestler...big pale guy with a mask that looks like the front of a fighter plane in World War II.
- The commentators keep yakking on about Fall Brawl. They give these wrestlers no respect when they wrestle, huh?
- Of course, you know if Sony Onoo's name is attached to a wrestler when being introduced, that he would get a few shots in, and he didn't disappoint.
- I like La Parka's little strut.
- La Parka was actually a face in this match...strange.
- Chris Cruise (no relation to Tom, that I know of) with a 1-800-COLLECT report. Who are these guys?
- Some highlights from Nitro with lineups for Fall Brawl. Whatever.
- Brad Armstrong defeats Adrian Byrd with a Russian Leg Sweep to get the pin.
- Brad could hardly keep from smiling as he went to the ring. I guess he enjoys the Boos of Heeldom.
- Throughout the match, Adrian Byrd tried to get the crowd involved, but to no avail.
- "Eddie Guerrero crossed that fine line with being aggressive and being a jerk!"--Larry Zbyszko
- There was one point during the match when Brad Armstrong was being pushed into a corner by Byrd, Armstrong suddenly turns around and tells someone to, "Watch your mouth!" That was funny!
- Scott Hudson talks about the WCW Magazine hitting newstands October 7th, and mentions Scott Hall is on the cover. Zbyszko not believing Hall is on the cover, says, "Why would they want to deface the cover of the WCW Magazine with that ridiculous coward?" He's coming out of retirement yet.
- Hudson then says that we, "Can't keep up with WCW unless we get the magazine." Yeah right! It's always two months behind, and the only way you can keep up is if you are a mark and if you don't have a television.
- Zbyszko then mentions that he has pictures at his house with him putting Scott Hall in an abdominal stretch, and Hall is "crying like a baby." He's coming out of retirement yet! Or it might be a red herring.
- Diamond Dallas Page defeats Vincent with a (your answer here).
- When Vincent comes out, Larry Zbyszko says, "He's nobody in the New World Order, he's a gopher!" I'm just glad someone over there mentioned that. Why does the nWo need a "Head of Security"?
- Of course, huge pop for DDP. Even Hudson mentions that he is probably the most popular wrestler in WCW right now.
- Zbyszko mentions the old DDP, when he was down in his luck living in a gutter. I'm surprised they mentioned that.
- Chants of "DDP! DDP!"
- At one point, Page was kicking Vincent in the butt, and kicked him out of the ring, and Zbyszko being himself, screams, "He just kicked him in the Bischoff!" HA!
- Scott Hudson (whoever he is) says, "Don't forget, Page is wrestling here on the {Pro} one day before the match of his life at Fall Brawl." Pitiful.
- Larry Z. on Vincent, "I'm not saying he's not a tough guy, just a lousy wrestler." True, true, true!
- More Nitro replays. They are really beating these Nitro replays down, aren't they? I don't have to watch the actual Nitro, just these weekend shows, and still know what happened. Pitiful.
- Scotty Riggs beats Jeff Bradley with a five-arm for the win.
- Scotty actually had people chanting for him. Interesting. Then again, he WAS facing a jobber.
- "That voice of Debra McMichael, when she starts talking, I'm looking for tornadoes!"--The Living Legend. He truly ranks up there with Heenan and Lawler.
- The replays are shown in fuzzy pictures. Why? I don't know.
- Once again, more Nitro highlights, along with Fall Brawl lineups.
- Juventud Guerrera defeats Psychosis with that flip off the top of the turnbuckle to get the pin.
- I love watching both of these wrestlers, even on a show like this, the workrate is always good.
- After the match, La Parka does a run in, and him and Psychosis do a mudhole stomp on Guerrera. Wasn't La Parka a face earlier in the show? Hmmmm...
- Steve "Mongo" McMichael pins Johnny Swinger after using a tombstone piledriver.
- Fairly quick match.
- It would not surprise me if we see Johnny Swinger start winning matches here, soon. He does a fairly good job in the ring, and has that good arrogant heel personality.
- There goes that darn fuzzy replay again!
That's all for this week! See you next Sunday!
