WCW Sunday {Pro} - Sunday, 09/21/97
- The show opens with Scott Hudson and Larry Zbyszko with talk of the nWo, and what they have done in recent shows (Fall Brawl, Nitro).
- Lex Luger in the Main Event tonight.
- Public Enemy defeat the Southern Posse when Johnny Grunge rolled one of the Posse up for a pin.
- Larry Zbyszko: "Looks like they're bringing out their sacrificial table!"
- Rocco Roc puts his baseball cap and sunglasses on David Penzar (the ring announcer) before the match. It was Penzar's style, especially with the hat on sideways.
- The commentators are still gabbing about Piper's announcement at Nitro tomorrow.
- Loud chants of, "Table! Table!"
- One of the members of the Southern Posse is really hairy, like on his back, and fairly heavy. GROSS!
- Rocco Roc sets up the hairy Posse on the table outside the ring, who moves out of the way at the last second. Rocco crashes through very hard.
- I believe that Rocco was legitimately hurt, as Johnny Grunge looked concerned, and Rocco had to have three people from the crowd help him walk back to the locker room.
- Steve Regal pins Villano V with a roll-up pin.
- Officially, Regal was fighting Villano IV, and you know what happens when the two brothers get together.
- I noticed that it is no longer Steven Regal (I knew he dropped "Lord"), but STEVE Regal.
- This is almost a handicap match. Regal looks to have a tag-team partner in his tights as big as he's gotten! He looks about four months pregnant.
- After the win, Regal did his little posing with him pushing the muscles in his bicep up. I love it when he does that. I like it better when he blows on his thumb and does it at the same time.
- Zbyszko: "What a pompous jerk!"
- Ultimo Dragon defeats Bill Payne with the Dragon Sleeper.
- The entrance TV screen still says "Ultimate Dragon". Goes to show how old these shows are. They even had it printed Ultimo on our TVs when he walked out.
- WHOA! Check out Payne's 'fro! Reminds me of Yahoo Serious in the movie Young Einstein.
- Zbyszko: "What's with this guy's hair? Has he been hanging out with High Voltage?"
- Crowd chanting, "Dragon! Dragon!"
- Why doesn't Dragon use the Dragon Suplex (chicken-wing suplex) anymore?
- I was so distracted by Payne's hair, that I almost overlooked the fact that he can work pretty good. This match was a basic squash, but he sold the moves very well.
- Scott Hudson makes the understatement of the year: "It became obvious at Fall Brawl that Curt Hennig was not loyal to the Four Horseman." Duh!
- Replay of the last Nitro whan the nWo came out. The only significant part of this was when Hogan referred to the day as being "Perfect", they edited that part out. Hmmm...
- Lex Luger racks La Parka with, Sony Onoo at ringside for, the win.
- La Parka's outfit was mostly white today.
- La Parka's entrance music is pretty cool. Got that deep metal beat.
- Chants of, "Luger! Luger!" Decent crowd today.
- "We won't see any Hurricanranas from Lex, likewise we'll see Torture Racks." -- Scott Hudson.
- Lex did a Japanese armdrag (according to Hudson). Never heard of that. Looked to me like he tried to do an armdrag, but was not in the right position.
- At one point, La Parka was arguing with the referee about the pin counts being slow, and Larry Zbyszko immediately says, "That's a waste of time, this ref doesn't speak Spanish."
- The La Parka Strut! Yes!!!
- Lex runs right into the boot of La Parka. "Lex, that's an amatuer mistake!" -- Zbyszko.
- Sony Onoo tries to give La Parka a chair, and as he is grabbing it, Luger racks him, even as La Parka is still holding onto it.
- Larry Z.: "No sitting down on the job for La Parka!"
See you next week!
