WCW Worldwide - Saturday/Sunday, 9/20-21/97
- Yes, it's time once again for the hardest working wrestling reporter at Midnight on Saturday nights, not watching ECW, to give his report just for you...
- This report is dedicated to one of my baseball heros, Ryne Sandburg. Ryno is retiring in a few days, and hew was a quiet, hardworking, consistent guy. He wasn't in it for the money (He got a $7 mil contract in 1992, the highest at the time, but retired for a few years to try to repair his maraige and help his family, leaving all that money behind), he wasn't in it for the fame (sure, he won MVP in 1990, and was starting second baseman for the All-Star team about every year before his first retirement, but 50 years from now, most people won't know who he is), he was just in it for the love of the game. It's sad to see someone like that leave.
- Just so you guys can pity me, this week, I'm watching Worldwide on a TV I can palm in one hand...
- On to the show...
- High Voltage over Texas Hangmen
- Totally ignoring the wrestling skill of High Voltage, Tony informs us that tonight's main event is Savage vs Eaton. Note: Savage hasn't been on Worldwide since the nWo angle started...
- Talk about Hogan vs Piper in a cage. Yep, it's 20 foot, but does it have a top?
- For whatever reason, High Voltage is very over with the crowd. Every move they did, they got some cheers...
- Bobby "If Flair is the dirtest player in the game, Piper is the craziest"
- High Voltage is doing some nice tag team manuevers
- Brain wanted to be commish, if the pay was good enough
- The crowd is still cheering, late in this match. Something's going on that I'm not aware of...
- HV wins after Kaos holds up a TH, and Rage, from the apron, jumps over the ropes, spins and hits him with his back.
- Lying Lee Marshall with Ray Traylor
- Same interview as you've heard everywhere else (injury, never be able to wrestle agian, goong to take down nWo)
- Prince Iaukea over Chip Minton by Flying Bodypress
- Another big pop, this time for Iaukea...What the heck is going on?
- I haven't seen Minton for a long time, wish I wasn't seeing him now...
- I get in now, the crowd isn't moving, but the cheering keeps going, someone's using a heat machine...
- According to Tony, "Super Calo is injured", I hadn't heard that before, but come to think of it, he hasn't been on the recent shows (Nitro, SN) lately...
- This weeks overstatement of a JTTS - "Prince Iaukea is a premier high flyer"..like I said last week about Psychosis, he's good, but not that good...
- Glacier over Hardbody Harris by Chronic Kick
- They've added some fake snow machines so it's not just snowing in the ring, but along the path to the ring...
- More hype for the main event..I'm betting no Joey Maggs this week - No one's ever there for you when you fight the nWo
- Up next, Piper highlights
- According to Tony "Miller and Glacier are complete athletes...wrestling skill and martial arts skill" LOL
- The fact that Glacier has only lost one singles match is repeated over and over agian..talk about him deserving title shots
- Nitro, two weeks ago, Piper as commish
- Hogan, Piper, 20 foot cage, Halloween Havoc...no talk about Fall Brawl
- Lying Lee with Eddie Guerrero
- He doesn't really care about his feud with Dean anymore...
- He says he's going "show all those high flyers, Rey Misterio, Super Calo, Supercalfragoulus, that I am simply too sueve
- Marshall about has a heart attack at that last line, because doing the quick Spanish to English translation, sueve is close in meaning to sweet...
- Meng w/ Mr. Not Monday Night (Jimmy Hart) over Super Calo?? by Tongan Death Grip
- No explanation about why Super Calo was injured a few segments ago, and has magically healed since then. Most be a slightly older taping.
- Calo outfit has been cut down, he's missing his left sleeve and bottom part of right leg...
- Bobby says that he respects Bischoff...something tells me that if Hogan wasn't involved with the nWo, Hennan would be...
- Meng barely sales three straight dropkicks by Calo, and then clotheslines him.
- A backbody press by Calo works, but he tried to follow it up with a big splash, and fell right into the TDG
- "Macho Man" Randy Savage w/Elizabeth over Bobby Eaton by Top Rope Elbow Drop
- Gee, hearing nWo music on Worldwide, this is a trip...
- Yep, I was right, Joey didn't show in this match.
- Eaton tries a lot of submission moves on Savage's arm
- Tony thinks there might be a visit from some other nWo wrestlers...Come on, this is Worldwide, and Eaton, ever hear of a squash?
- After being knocked outside, Savage puts Elizabeth in from of him to step Eaton, and then proceeds to wail on him.
- Slow match...
- As Tony and Bobby were wrapping up the show, they went to a little clip for next time (amazing, if this was actually live, or taped once a week, how would they get these clips), and guess who they show...HALL, NASH, AND SYXX!!! Hall and Nash looked ready to wrestle, so we might see some sort of Outsiders match next week...
