WCW Sunday {Pro} - Sunday, 09/28/97
- Show opens with the Piper bit from last Monday, with him babbling on about the cage match this coming Halloween Havoc.
- Larry Zbyszko is wearing a Three Stooges tie. WOW! Neat!
- The Living Legend also says that he knew he was going to be ref before Piper made the announcement, that he and Piper sat down and discussed it the previous week.
- On that subject, I want to say that when a special referee is assigned for these matches, 99% of the time the outcome is a screwjob ending, and more times than not, the ref either turns, or favors the heel, we'll see.
- Last week I asked what the name of Ray Traylor's move was going to be called, and I had several responses tell me that they heard it was going to be called a "Traylor Park". Makes sense. Thanks guys!
- Scott Norton pins Rick Fuller after a brainbuster.
- After the introductions, they showed the replay of the Jeff Jarrett/Curt Hennig match last week when the nWo did the run-in, and the Giant made the save. I don't know what they were trying to say, and they lost me.
- Larry Zbyszko: "I'm gonna give Scott Hall every oppurtunity to show how good he is, that's why I say Luger is going to wipe the mat."
- At one point, Fuller does an impressive belly-to-back suplex on Norton. Other than that, it was a basic squash.
- A lot of chest chopping in this match.
- Towards the end of the match, Norton throws Fuller into the ropes, and catches him and does that move where they land on the top rope. It looked to me that Fuller hit hard, as he hit with his face, and not with his armpits. OUCH!
- Rats! Glacier is in the main event tonight.
- The Renegade pins Greg "The Hammer" Valentine using the ropes for leverage.
- A lot of thumbs down for both wrestlers during their ring entrances. Funny, from the start of the match, a lot of chants for "Hammer". Hmmmmm...
- Scott Hudson and Larry Zbyzsko talk about future Nitro dates, and they mentioned the one the night after Halloween Havoc, and Larry says, "Thats the night Scott Hall comes out crying like a baby!" He seems awfully interested in Scott Hall instead of the matches at hand.
- Hammer tries to pin Renegade by attempting a pin using the ropes, and the ref does a two-count before realizing Valentine had his feet on the ropes. The Hammer thinks he won, and raises his hands in the air, then realizes the match is not over, then goes back to the Renegade, who is leaning against the corner. Scott Hudson then says, "You're not gonna get away with a lot with a WCW official." Then the Renegade knocks Valentine down, and and uses the ropes for the pin. To quote Bill, "Doh!"
- Super Calo and Lizmark, Jr. defeat La Parka and Ciclope with Sony Onoo, after Super Calo does a move I have never seen.
- Man, La Parka can't even win against these guys! What did he do wrong that we don't know about? [Editor's Note: La Parka supposedly recently get in a lot of trouble for doing spots where he landed in the crowd, ala Super Calo on Nitro a few months ago.]
- "These guys are like Evel Knevel, except they don't use motorcycles!"--Larry Z.
- Besides the one part where all opponents were out of the ring, this was a snoozer.
- Super Calo did a move I have never seen, and it took about 86 minutes to set up. He knocks Ciclope down, wraps one of Ciclope's legs around his own, wraps one of Ciclope's arms around his legs, and made him submit. The announcers said it was some variation of an STF. Whatever.
- A commercial for the Macho Shopping Network.
- I don't really care for Savage in the ring, but his commercials are pretty funny.
- The Slim Jim girl in this commercial is Candi, the other one looks better,, but I don't know her name (they are definetly different).
- It's a trip to hear Savage say www.SlimJim.com!
- Goes to show how sad it is when I do a report of a commercial!
- Scotty Riggs defeats Vincent after pinning him with his Five-Arm.
- The 2nd nWo team music came on, Legend: "Let's see what coward this turns out to be. Oh! It's one of their biggest!" Now that was funny!
- Scott Hudson then asks why Vincent is in the nWo: "What's he bring to the table?"
- Zbyzsko then says, "They tell him to do this, and to do that, and to get this, and to get that." You tell 'em Larry!
- Riggs still comes out to American Males music.
- Wow! Not a squash, and Vincent even controls most of the match! I think he was happy to see this not turn into a 30 second match on the losing end.
- At one point Riggs missed a dropkick. I have heard, and read, some people wonder why they sell missed dropkicks, when you fall the same distance than if you landed it. True!
- Glacier and Ernest Miller defeat Wrath and Mortis with that one move Miller does.
- According to the announcers, Riggs won a car for defeating a member of the nWo. Did I miss something? Plus, it was only Vince, I wouldn't have even given him a Hot Wheel!
- Miller was a player for the Atlanta Falcons, and so was this new Goldberg guy (who was a member of Piper's Family). What is up with former Falcon players in wrestling? Maybe exposure to Power Plant commercials in the Atlanta area.
- "It's cold in here all of a sudden."--Scott Hudson. Pitiful, at least Larry doesn't dwell every five minutes on making the match seem recent.
- A squash. Wrath didn't even get tagged in. Ernest Miller did that move where he stands on the 3rd ropes, jumps, turns in mid-air, lands on the rope, and springs into a spinwheel kick. It looked impressive the first time, but that was his five minutes of fame.
- Afterwards Wrath cleans house for a minute, then Glacier grabs Mortis's stick and whacked Adam, I mean, Wrath upside the coconut. When Glacier was grabbing the stick, The Legend screamed, "He's got that stick with Scott Hall's head on it!"
