WCW Sunday {Pro} - Sunday, 10/05/97
- I saw Ben J.'s report last night letting me know that the Giant would be on today. At least I get to see one decent wrestler today.
- Ever since I first got cable, I had to wonder why TBS starts their shows at weird times. Wouldn't it make since to start on the hour and half hour like other networks?
- Billy Kidman pins Hector Guerrero after a shooting star press.
- Seeing Kidman reminds me of when I saw him at a taping in Universal Studios. He was wrestling a match, and where I was sitting, you could see the backstage area (it was just an open area in the dark with chairs and tables there). I noticed that there was a lady watching, and she seemed real interested in the match. I later found out it was his lady, though I don't know if it was his wife, fiancee, or girlfriend, but she was pretty hot.
- It pains me to watch Hector Guerrero. He's slow, flabby, and has a tough time attempting moves. I guess it's better that that Gobbledydooker, or whatever that thing was.
- There was a lot of talk on Eddie in this match. To bad they can't talk about how good Kidman can work.
- In a minor upset, Johnny Swinger defeats Jim Powers (with Teddy Long) after a neckbreaker.
- Seeing these two come out, and seeing the last match, I have already come to the conclusion that this is a weak show, and that's saying a lot for this show.
- Powers was in control for most of the match.
- To end the match, Powers throws Swinger into the ropes, and Swinger stops and does a neckbreaker
(I almost thought I was watching Jeff Jarrett).
- After the match, Powers was complaining to Teddy that the count was too fast. I then read Power's lips, which said, "What happened there?" Uh, Jim, you lost, that's what happened.
- I called it before, watch for Swinger to move up in the rankings in a while.
- Replay of the Nitro Girls. Why? I'm not complaining, just wondering.
- They then made the smooth transition from Nitro Girls, to clips of Bill Goldberg in the past few weeks. Uh, okay.
- Eddie Guerrero pins Lenny Lane after his frogsplash.
- Throughout the match, Lane was trying to get the crowd involved, to no avail.
- Just a side note from me, I remember that me and a friend of mine really pissed Lane off at those TV tapings I referred to earlier. This guy's face can get real red!
- Lane showed that he has some decent skill in this match. Not everything was sharp and crisp, but that was some of Eddie's doing, also.
- I think the most impressive thing about this match was when Lane went to the top rope to attempt a
twisting plancha, Guerrero moved out of the way, and Lane fell flat on his back, without putting his arm
down. Nice!
- When Eddie went for the frogsplash, Scott Hudson was yapping, "There's no way he can hit this,
he's 3/4 of the way across the ring." I rolled my eyes, since a man like Hugh Morrus, who has over 100
lbs. on Eddie, and does a moonsault, does it with ease.
- I was quite disappointed, no chants of "Eddie sucks" today. Interesting. It was a rather lame crowd.
- YES! The Macho Shopping Network. If you haven't heard Macho say www.slimjim.com, believe me, that is pretty funny.
- Michael Wallstreet pins Barry Houston after executing his Wallstreet Crash.
- This Barry Houston guy looks like some kid I used to beat up in high school all the time.
- Also, Houston wears these light blue shorts with red hearts on the sides. Oh how very sexy, yeah right! That is brave, however.
- "This was a guy who was dying to sell his soul to the New World Order."--Larry Zbyszko
- This Houston guy really sucks. I'd rather watch the WWF than him.
- A commercial for NAPA with NASCAR driver Dick Trickle. You gotta love that name!
- Main Event time. Let's get ready to rumble! No, Michael Buffer was not there, just creating my own excitement.
- The Giant pins the Renegade after a ________________.
- They're still admitting that the Renegade was once the Television champ. Unbelievable!
- Larry on the Giant, "This man looks like a mountain, he IS!"
- Wow, what a recovery! Mark Curtis is the ref! Goes to show how old these shows are. Also, the Giant was wearing those tights that looked like biker shorts with a shirt with a single strap.
- The Renegade performed three moves, then the Giant got him with the chokeslam. This match took about 30 seconds. Wow, that was exciting.
- I was kinda upset with the show today. Usually the commentating kind of makes up for the weak card,
but this week's commentating was a little dry.
- See you next week for Nitro!
