WCW Worldwide - Saturday, 01/03/98
- Before I say anything else, let me give you what I found out about the people I asked about, just in case you were as interested in the results as I was...I got a lot of responses, so thanks to all who clued this mark in...
- No more info then I told you last week on Scott Putski, other then he was supposed to be coming
back around the Royal Rumble...seeing as they
haven't announced more than five of the participants
so far, I wouldn't be suprised if he showed up in
some form in the Rumble or during the light
heavyweight match...
- Same thing for High Voltage: No more info than a
conformation of what I thought, they are
currently wrestling in Japan for the time being
and improving...
- Micheal Wallstreet was last remembered as one of the
people (along with Ray Traylor, who then gave a different reason when he returned) that JJ Dillion kicked out of the
nWo, something about a 30 day clause in his
contract or some such nonsense...well, if you
can't be nWo in the US of A, why not try to be
nWo in Japan, which is exactly what Wallstreet
has done. (BTW, if you've forgotten, the other three
members of nWo Japan that we've seen here in the
states are the Great Muta, Masa Hiro Chono and
Fake Sting)
- Ok, now that I'm done with that for the time being, let
me mark out...YAHOOO! BOOKER T GOT A
TITLE!!!! Thanks, I'm better now...
- After reading Bill's
review of '97 and thinking back to Starrcade, I got a
strange, Oliver Stone conspiracy idea...See, I was
thinking of after the main event, where Sting yelled some
jarbled words in Espaņol...What if, Sting wrestled as a
Luchador before the PPV, to get back into ring shape.
Let's look at a few things here...First, Sting looked to
be in good shape in his PPV, defintenly not something he
would be if he really didn't wrestle for 18 months...So,
how did he do it? Well, DDP got away with a very good
impression of La Parka earlier this year and Sting's
wrestling style is closer to the luchadors then
DDP...What if he put on the mask of La Parka, danced
around on one foot carring a chair and got some ringtime?
They could do it a house show or even a tv taping and we
would never know the difference!
- Let me stop you before you mail me: I know it
really wouldn't make a difference if he did, but
it's just a interesting thought...More likely,
Sting, in between drop ins (pun intended) at
Nitro, wrestled some wannabes at the Power
Plant...
- Enough of me babbling for a while, let's get to the show
(or, Bobby "weasels" his way out of turning
nWo, part three)
- Harlem Heat (w/Jacquline) over Silver King/La Parka by
the Harlem Hangover (or is it the "Big Apple"?)
- Ok, I'm about sick of WCW giving us two names for
the same finisher and, as it is my sworn duty as
WCW Worldwide reporter, I'm gonna solve this mess
right now! If you're still reading this, I want
you to vote in a poll on which name it should be.
Click on your choice below and feel free to tell
me why you think what you think...I'll give you
the results next week...
- Yea, I'm checking to see if La Parka acts the
slightest bit like Sting...No, I haven't lost my
mind, why do you ask?
- La Parka brings the chair with him to the ring,
but doesn't get to use it...
- The Heat dominate most of the match...
- Dave Taylor promo, which can only mean....
- Dave Taylor and Steve Regal over "Hardjobbing"
Bobby Walker and Jim Powers (w/Teddy Long (overdue for a
win)) by butterfly suplex by Taylor on Walker
- This match would have meant so much more if it
was before World War 3, when Taylor and Regal
were still getting a push...
- What's the point of Taylor's promos? The only
reason I can think of them is that they are
considering turning him face agianst Regal, but
that wouldn't make any sense...
- Seeing as Tony and Bobby can't talk about
Starrcade (this was taped the week of the PPV,
but they act like it's not) and since Souled out
is too far away, they are paying more attention
then usual to the match...
- Another back and forth affair...
- Konnan (w/ Vincent (wo/ Life)) over Johnny (Davey) Boone
by Tequilla Sunrise
- Another thought on Starrcade....if you have
surfed on over to Macho Man's web site (I forget
the address, check the links), he has a column
that's updated around weekly (or whenever they
get around to it). Anyways, the point is that he
was promising to do something big, to upstage
what Bret Hart did, and he decided to it at
Starrcade...Now, unless getting trashed by Luger
counts as something big, I'd assume that it was
planned all along to have Savage in the six man
match...and WCW wasn't going to go through with
their stated match
- Of course, it could also be said that
Savage would have done something big, if
he hadn't been in the six man instead of
Konnan, so it's all up to debate...
- Hey, here's the Brain's apology for this show,
he's spying on the nWo...Schivone thinks it's a
lame story and tells the fans to "never,
never trust the Brain"...OK, all together
now...DUH!
- Vincent gets his cheap shots in...you know, I'd
like to see Vincent vs Eric...then again, maybe
not.
- Lorenzo over Mark Starr by bridge suplex
- As far as I know, this is Lorenzo's second WCW
appearance....he debuted on {Pro} a month or so ago
- And as Glacier could tell you, debuting
on {Pro} is a very bad idea...
- Back and forth match....
- Well, so far this show, we've only had one match
with two no-names and the main event is
decent...not bad
- "Diamond" Dallas Page over (Had a) Fit Finley by Diamond
Cutter
- Just MO here (and you're sure getting a lot of it
this week), but wouldn't it have been much better
as far as angle building goes to have Eddie
Guerrero walk out on Ultimo Dragon a couple weeks
ago, instead of Finley?
- Dang (or more acurately, BANG), when I was
marking out for Booker T's win at the top of this
report, I forget to mark out over DDP's title
win.....YESSSSSS!!!!!
- DDP early...Finley takes over...and the DC out of
nowhere....
- Didn't Finley have a feud with Benoit...or did
that get forgetton in the whole Raven's
Nest/Flock thing?
