WCW Monday Nitro - Monday 1/12/97
- We have a new format to debut this week. We have received mixed e-mail regarding our style. We have received both high praise for our research as well as some negative feedback. We have decided to use an idea suggested by Vince Pigati (Pigati@theramp.net) to remedy the situation. Our commentary will be broken into two segments. The first will be resolving issues from our last report and add news and opinions and the final portion will contain the match-by- match report of Nitro. This way, you may read the portions you like and omit the ones you do not.
- This week's Nitro snack will be Cheetos. This is because the company mascot is Chester Cheetah (http://emvreview.2tnet.com/sncs/gamerev/chester.htm). We received an abundance of mail regarding Lodi's sign, "CHEETAH GOOD CLEAN FUN."
- Michael (bamaman@hotmail.com) wrote: "There is a strip club in Atlanta called Cheetah's where my bachelor party was held. This could be what Lodi was referring to. I personally would refer to it as "CHEETAH, GOOD, CLEAN, EXPENSIVE, FUN."
- Mike (mslaggie@rconnect.com) commented that the movie setting for Striptease in Las Vegas could have been set in a Cheetah. Also, he commented that Lodi had a sign that read, "Lodi loves Spice." Last week we noted that Lodi's name has a double meaning. This sign also could have one as in addition to being the name of a Nitro Girl, Spice is also a pay-per-view channel that specializes in soft core pornography.
- Dave (SalandRei@aol.com) note that Lodi also sported a sign that read, "Lodi vs. Spice," (with a heart around the Vs.). Lodi apparently has selected his favorite Nitro girl. Lodi and I have something in common.
- From other e-mails we have determined that this is a swanky chain of strip clubs based in Atlanta that is extremely popular. There are at least three of these facilities based in Atlanta.
- In addition to the mentioned readers, these are the contributors who did not request anonymity on this subject: Hal Williams (halwilliams@yahoo.com), Jon Loveless (jgi@mailcity.com), Ecw6nwo@aol.com, Doug Palmer (Dpalmer@uwf.edu), David Kaleida (dkaleida@ix.netcom.com), Brian A. Hisaw (hisaw13@juno.com), Charles W. Wise, Jr. (Bonovox@midspring.com), Saracen (Saracen@aol.com), Brandon Matthews (samhain@qni.com), Todd Akers (ptakers@erols.com):
- Lodi should sell advertising time.
- Last week we mentioned Sting's Spanish. We received a response from Torito (torito@prtc.net), whose first language is Spanish: Revenge...(something I didn't get:...) "Mamacita" is an expression and the best comparison I can make of it is when Jericho said "Yeah baby!", is more or less the same. "Mamacita" is NOT a name, I can assure that.
- I have one other comment on Sting's Spanish. On a recent add for the WCW Magazine, they asked the question who is number one on Rick Rude's hit list? They then panned to a clip of Rude asking, "Comprende?" After Rude's comments on nWo Nitro resulting in tension between Sting and Rude, it is ironic that Rude would ask a question in Spanish and Sting would say something in Spanish. We doubt this was intentional, but ironic nonetheless.
- This also created our trivia question of the week: What was the last thing Sting said on camera in English before his long vow of silence?
- We had many replies to last week's Contest: Was is the worst finishing maneuver in wrestling history? We decided to credit our winner, but we also had many worthy contenders so we opted to print them as well. One final word on last week's winner, we made a factual error. Victor Phunkus (doctor_funk_phd@yahoo.com) informed us that Terry Taylor actually wrestled Steve Lombardi in a short match at WrestleMania V.
- We decided to pick a top ten, instead of one winner this week. One name that repeatedly pops up is Hacksaw Duggan. Be fair, guys. Just think about all the hope he gives to other retarded people that they too can get a high paying job on television. Here are our Top ten in no particular order:
- Neill Burkett (stryper2000@hotmail.com): Bastion Boogers' "crotch drop" (I am guessing that is what it is called, although Bobby Heenan called it "A Trip To The Batcave"). I don't know about you but if I was a wrestler I would rather job to Eric Bischoff that get a melly 400-lb crotch dropped on my face.
- Jonathan Miller (kingofswing@rocketmail.com): Iceman Parsons' Rumper Stumper. He would throw his opponent (who would most likely be a Simpson or a Von Erich) into the ropes and hit him with his posterior.
- Jeremy (jhkim@gte.net): The Three Point Stance. When the most famous guys to ever use the move are Duggan and Mongo, you know it ain't good.
- Jerrell Price (Jprice4524@aol.com): "The Croissant Crush by Rene Goulet, the #1 Frenchman. Maybe I'm just biased toward it because Rene Goulet is one of my favorite jobbers of all time."
- Jody Yerdon (bubba@gisco.net): "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan's new finisher, the kneedrop. It makes Hogan's Leg Drop Of Doom look like a moonsault.
- Jesse Caporbiano (u1005871@warwick.net): Shane Douglas' belly to belly suplex. Just what exactly makes it hurt so much when he does it? Except for the fact that if Francine was standing on the apron you could see up her dress if you were on the mat...maybe that'd give you a little incentive to stay down for the 1,2,3...
- Ed Alotta (EDWARD.ALOTTA@EY.COM): Man mountain armbar. Half the time the opponent would tap out, even though his arm would be bent at the elbow. Mr. Rock didn't even appear ro be very hygiene-concious, so it would be understandable to tap out with his armpit in your face.
- BBagwell@aol.com: Ron Studd won one match in his glorious WCW career and he used the vicious vertical suplex. Hacksaw Duggan and his new kneedrop finisher with no air on it, or his taped fist punch, or the three point stance clothesline.
- Mark Dicus (defpotec@erois.com): Any finishing move by Hacksaw Jim Duggan is bound to be one of the all-time worst! Hoooooooooooooooooooo! Of course, the Leg Drop of Lameness that "Hollywood" Hogan uses now has become pathetic.
- Bill Kowal (wkowal@remc7.k12.mi.us): "The Stomp" by Rugged Ronnie Garvin. Let me remind you how horrible it was. He used it during the latter part of his career, circa 1988 I am guessing. Let me remind you how horrible it was. As Garvin's opponent would lay on the mat, he would circle him, continually stomping on every part of his body and then proceed to pin the man. The only thing worse than seeing him perform the move, was when WWF Superstars of Wrestling show would torture us die-hard fans by showing it again...IN SLOW MOTION!!!
- For further information on this topic, we highly recommend Joe Crowe (JoeBCrowe@aol.com)'s column on the subject at Solies' Vintage Wrestling http://users.aol.com/Solie/svwn.html.
- Our contest this week, came from a reader suggestion. We had several and will be using the other suggestions in the coming weeks. This week's contest is: What is stupidest tag team pairing of all time?
- Some topics that we failed to mention about last week's Nitro:
- Brandon Hendricks (bmh@gnofn.org) reminded us that the chair that Randy Savage used was Dave Penzer's new chair he received from Chris Jericho.
- Evan Dickens (kidfab@place2b.org) informed us that Bischoff's concerns at the end of the program were in light of Eric Lambrose's statement earlier in the broadcast. While this was definitely WCW's intent, their broadcasters ruined this by claiming that the nWo does not care too much about fines on all of their later programming.
- khabbarakh@aol.com (khabbarakh@aol.com) noticed a flaw in the breakup of the nWo. Randy Savage and Eric Bischoff came from the same limo from earlier in the program after WCW had teased throughout the program stemmed from the limo incident.
- The United States tag team championship belts were clearly visible on camera. Fans in the front row were proudly displaying them. That championship became defunct on July 31, 1992. The last champions were the Barbarian and Dick Slater. Pictures of the straps can be found at http://kliq.simplenet.com/.
- Bill has always done a tremendous job of covering signs from Nitro. We did not do this last week, some of the signs we missed: Lodi fears shampoo, WEED 3:16 Cold-Stoned and Got Milk.
- Matt Tarr (tarr@ljworld.com), a sports writer, wrote us that Ron Reis (T-Rex) played basketball at Santa Clara rather than UC-Santa Barbara. There was a Sports Illustrated article on him, if anyone out there has any info let us know.
- The Saint (cmcx39a@triadvan.com) verified that Hogan most definitely did submit at Starrcade as the replay on Thursday Thunder indicates.
- Shawn (HARSTADSC@bvu.com) informed us that Fyre of the Nitro Girls is not as new as we believed, although she is the newest Nitro Girl.
- On last week's Nitro, they teased a dissension within the nWo. Members arrived in separate limos, including Hall and Nash, and later in the show a fight broke out among four members: Hollywood Hogan, Savage, Easy E, and Big Kev. WCW producers showed a clip from the April 7 edition of Nitro where Hogan and Big Kev were involved in a verbal altercation. We did a little research to find out the reasoning of this argument. Hogan said that the word was out that Nash had a problem with Hogan being in Chicago the previous week. Nash said that he had no problem with Rodman, but he did have a problem with the fact that he and Syxx sat in a hotel room on Easter Sunday. Huh? Hogan wanted to know where Hall was. Nash said that Hall was nWo 4-Life. Hogan said that "the way you (Big Kev) are looking at me, we've got to do this thing right now." Kev said that he gave his word then and it's still good now, nWo 4-Life. They all gave the high sign. Macho still had a problem with Bischoff. Hogan told Macho that if he and Nash can bury the hatchet, Bischoff and Macho should stop acting like a couple of goofs. Macho says he and Bischoff are on probation with one another. This all came after what happened at Spring Stampede....
- In a match with Rick Steiner, Big Kev gave Steiner four "Snake Eyes" on an exposed turnbuckle and then a jackknife. Patrick refused to make the count and Kev forced him to do it. Patrick then stormed out on Nash leaving Kev and Syxx-Pac in the ring. During the main event, DDP hit Savage with a diamond cutter and Patrick counted the pinfall. Nash came in and grabbed Patrick and the nWo came to the ring. Big Kev gave Patrick the jackknife. Savage grabbed Kim and went to hit her. Bischoff tried to stop Savage and Savage slapped Bischoff down. Chaos began as the pay-per-view ended.
- Last week we mentioned the irony that Don Callis appeared on RAW opposite Rick Martel. Another irony is that Mark Mero used Sable as a shield within 45 seconds of Randy Savage doing the same with Elizabeth. Also, Harley Race and Jack Brisco were mentioned on both shows. Jim Cornette mentioned the former world champions on RAW while Ric Flair did the same on Nitro.
- On Thunder WCW continued to date the world championship lineage back to 1905 despite the fact that the WWF used NWA wrestlers on RAW last week. The NWA has a more direct link to this date although even it was not officially formed until 1948.
- Eric Bischoff's theme music is a knockoff of a song from the soundtrack of an Antonio Banderas movie"Desperado." It appears Bischoff is attempting to create own cliches such as "Hell Hath no fury like Souled Out." It is not working thus far.
- There has been some discussion over the differences in Sting. He appeared on a tape of the Crook and Chase show December 30th and many claim that Sting has shrunk on hiatus. Perhaps this is why he is wearing a shirt in his current wrestling attire. We have also noted that he is no longer as tan as he once was. This may have been why Hogan used the "just too tan" line from his Thursday interview.
- One thing we have noticed is that Sting's voice does not fit his character. His voice fit the energetic Sting but it does not fit the dark Sting. We have heard that WCW may return Sting to his original persona on a trial basis similar to nWo Nitro to see which ratings are better. Mark Madden hinted at this in a recent column on the WCW Web Site.
- Also the Sting character does not work unless he is chasing the championship. Had he kept the championship it would have defeated the purpose of the character of the man chasing the belt.
- One other problem we have with the Sting character is his relationship with Lex Luger and the other WCW wrestlers. When did they kiss and make up?
- Scott Hall has been humiliated frequently on television lately on television. On Thunder, they showed him being manhandled by Bret Hart and the Giant at Starrcade and then he jobbed to Ray Traylor.
- We felt many similarities to HHH being punished for the MSG incident in 1996. WCW could not punish Nash or Syxx because they were not in attendance, so Hall took the brunt of WCW's criticism.
- Also, there was no Hall survey on Nitro last Monday. MiCasa has reported that WCW garners its lowest ratings when Hall is alone so this maybe as much about that as it is a punishment to him.
- One other possible punishment is that Hall and Nash were separated during the last nWo segment. Lisa (Brave8), Adam Wogen (Adam-137@earthling.net), Russell Tharp (mondaynitro@geocites.com), Scott Bailey (scott.bailey@mosby.com), and DDT Digest's own Eric Ehrhardt (User552978@aol.com) reported that Hall and Nash were definitely in separate limos last week. Al Isaacs of Scoops (http://www.scoopscentral.com/) on Saturday proposed an interesting scenario: If Nash won the proposed tournament for the WCW World championship, faces Hall in February. We feel Nash would be the face because he wore red instead of black on Monday. While this is not the first time he has done this, it could be an indicator.
- Another sign that the nWo may be broken up was that the promos for Hall vs. Bischoff announced him as a member of the Wolf Pack as opposed to the nWo.
- That is an interesting advertisment where Hall says, "Come fly the new colors." This is actually true as Stone Cold Steve Austin, Goldberg, nWo, Sting and Shamrock all wear black. It is the "in" color in wrestling. ON WCWSN, even Joey Maggs and Barry Horowitz all wore black. Lex has worn a shirt four times and each time it has been black. This is ironic since Bischoff fired Stone Cold originally because he thought he couldn't market him with the plane black trunks and boots. SCSA mentions this in most of his interviews. This is also why he played ACDC's "Back in Black" recently at the RAW where he brought out his truck.
- There was an article in the Florida Times-Union (http://jacksonville.com) this Wednesday on the Giant. It can be found in the Micasa Gleaner (http://www.Micasawresling.com/gleaner).
- Scott Steiner must feel cheated. He was fined $5000 for hitting a referee and Vader was fined just $166 for his incident overseas.
- Dave Meltzer is reporting that Scott Steiner will soon turn nWo. WCW has teased dissension between the world tag team champions in their last two live programs.
- Last week we asked if Scott had ever wrestled as a heel. We received two responses both citing a tweener role he played when he defeated Rick Steamboat for the television championship (9/29/92). The Steiner vaulted for the WWF in November and the turn was never completed. The announcers did not sell the angle properly so he was never a full-fledged heels. He did wrestle more aggressively and did some harsher interviews with such phrases as "Because, I'm a Steiner!". Our two contributors were Dave (rindoned@cayennesoft.com) and Xavier Doom (xds@idrect.com) creator of the Vince McMahon Hall of Shame (http://webhome.idirect.com/~xds/).
- On a broader scale the dissension between the Steiner Brothers might also signify the end of the tag team division as we know it.
- Randy Savage (http://www.MachoMan.com) jobbed twice in same week on live television.
- Ric Flair has been drawing rave reviews for his interviews with Bret Hart. What was Flair referring to in St. Louis with Hogan?
- One comment that we have is that Flair said he was the best wrestling performer. He specifies what he is the best at. Hart never says what the best he is at.
- Some think that Flair broke kayfabe when he claimed that ten years ago he could have a good match with broomstick. Mortis (http://members.aol.com/bambam1235/Mortis.html) did an interview recently and he commented on how emotional it was for Flair to say he had lost a step. The full interview can be found at http://www.twc-online.com/custom/mortis.
- Flair may not be able to carry Hart is a match any longer but we believe he certainly carrying his interview level up a few notches.
- One comment that many Hart supporters have made about Flair's 13 championships to Hart's five is that Flair has also lost thirteen world championships. We have two retorts. One is that one thing that has made Flair superior to wrestlers such as Hogan is his willingness to job. The other is, for the record he has only lost twelve championships. He was stripped of the WCW championship on July 1, 1991, when he bolted for the World Wrestling Federation.
- Bret Hart copyrighted the name Hitman in 1991 which is why he is allowed to use it in WCW.
- In our assessment of the idiotic business decisions James J. Dillon has made since becoming the figurehead commissioner of WCW, one we failed to mention was the Raven contract situation. In the storyline, he actually signed a wrestler to a contract who can wrestle when he wants to and make the stipulations for his own matches without his opponent's or WCW's consent. We hope he at least gave Dillon a six pack of Miller Lite.
- Raven's Nest had another scuffle with the fans last Nitro. Hades of hadeswrestling.com was in attendance and this is a portion of his report: Tonight I was live at the Georgia Dome for Monday Nitro. During the vent when Raven's Nest walked out into the crowd a fan put his hands on Raven's chest and shoved him. After that Perry Saturn put the fan in a face lock while Hammer hit him repeatedly in the stomach. Everyone walked off and the fan was left in a puddle of beer bleeding from the nose and lip. He was pretty roughed up. I was sitting two rows back and saw every bit of it. Afterwards a security guard came up and the fan was cussing about the lack of security and then about fifteen officers came over. The fan and his brother were taken from the arena. A few minutes later they were allowed to return only to get the rest of their party.
- Since Raven's Nest entered early in the program, we assume WCW's policy of beginning alcohol sales midway through their shows to have the effect of the alcohol hit later was not in effect.
- Raven's Nest also received criticism for their appearance on Thursday Thunder. They were in attendance and simply watched the matches. Non of them wrestled or were interviewed which some fans felt was inappropriate.
- Chris Jericho (http://www.ChrisJericho.com)'s new theme is a knockoff of "Evenflow" by Pearl Jam and is the same music that was once used by John Tenta. This could be part of WCW's attempt to present him as a harder wrestler.
- Another portion of his new image which we do not believe has been reported on the web is that he has been flipping people off. Last Monday, if you watch closely, Jericho is flipping the fans off with his left hand while holding the microphone.
- Jericho wrestled in the Manitoba indy promotion (WFWA) that we mentioned last week which also had Rick Martel, Don "Jackal" Callis, and Allen Coage.
- Jericho is drawing favorable comparisons to the Rock. Like Maivia he was a face who was being booed so the bookers turned him heels. Also, he is already speaking in the third person.
- Another WWF gimmick that many have compared Jericho to is Al Snow. While WCW is definitely using the gimmick, Jericho is losing to better wrestlers. Curt Hennig, Ric Flair, and DDP are far superior to Scott Putski.
- This may mean that Jericho is not in the cruiserweight fold any longer.
- They do appear headed to a Jericho-Martel feud over using the same finisher. In both of Martel's live matches the announcers have commented on the similarities between the Quebec Crab and the Lion Tamer.
- Another feud WCW could eventually start over using the same finisher is Sting-Hart. RSPW has had a recent conversation regarding the differences in the two moves. This is what has been written:
- Gretta Paugh (bq999@yfn.ysu.edu): Sting crosses the opponent's legs around his right leg, Bret crosses the opponents around his left leg.
- Crush (Crush@quantum.net.au): The difference is that Bret hooks the knee and Sting doesn't.
- Xxmr420xx@aol.com: Bret hart steps in with his left leg, while Sting steps in with his right.
- Kelly Vaters (am308@chebucto.ns.ca): While most wrestlers dropkick leading off with the right foot, Bret leads off with his left? Maybe the Hitman's a latent southpaw, forced like George VI was to use his right hand.
- In a related noted, Ronnie Garvin used this as his finisher in the WWF. Does anyone remember what he called the hold?
- Traylor Trash was not called that Thursday, it is now the Traylor Spike.
- News this week still surrounds Hogan's status with WCW. Mike Mooneyham wrote an article for the Charleston Post and Courier and Glenn Cole wrote one in the Calgary Sun (http://www.canoe.ca/SlamWrestling/jan10_coach.html) on this topic. We will not discuss it further.
- WCW wants Hogan to market himself as Hollywood Hogan because they do not have to pay any money to Marvel Comics who trademarked the Hulk name for the Incredible Hulk.
- Did Raven and Chris Benoit wrestle against each other in ECW?
- Notes on WCW new wrestlers and returnees:
- Joey Maggs: Maggs returned teaming with Bobby Eaton on WCW Worldwide and defeated Scott and Steve Armstrong. On WCW Saturday night he lost to Brad Armstrong. He appeared against three Armstrongs in one television day. That must be a record.
- In a related note, Bobby Eaton was complimented twice on WCW TV this past week. Bobby Heenan mentioned Eaton and Arn Anderson as great tag team workers on WCW Thursday Thunder and Dusty Rhodes mentioned Eaton while talking about best the right hands in wrestling on WCW Saturday Night. WCW bookers may not realize Eaton's talents, but his co-workers do.
- The tag team past of John Nord and Barry Darsow that Dusty Rhodes mentioned may have revolved around an angle Dusty wanted in WCW around 1987. Dusty wanted him to play the character of Vladimir Petrov and team with Darsow who was wrestling as Krusher Kruschev.
- His furry boots were taken as a tribute to Bruiser Brody whom he met in a stint in the American Wrestling Association.
- Nord won the Battle of Barbarians last week. If Nord started using the name Nord the Barbarian again it is because he won the name outright. That was not meant to be taken seriously.
- Now that WCW has signed Crush there has been speculation that Demolition could reform. This is highly unlikely but WCW does now have the two active members of Demolition. Bill Eadie (Ax) owns the trademark to the name.
- Mike Tenay tried to get Ohara over by calling him New Japan's Ray Traylor.
- Marty Jannetty beat Louie Spicoli at the most recent WCWSN tapings. Shawn Michaels' old tag team partner is definitely in WCW. He had three incredibly short reigns as a WWF champion. He held the tag titles with Michaels (10/30/90) and Syxx (1/10/94-1/17/94). He also held the I-C championship in 1993 (5/17/93-6/6/93).
- Rick Martel has been stirring up questions regarding his hair as it appears he had a receding hairline the last time he was scene several years ago. He now has a full head of hair.
- Martel had an interview on WCWSN and he is definitely a face. This is the first time he has wrestled as a face since he turned on Tito Santana in 1989 to our knowledge. If we are incorrect please e-mail.
- It is interesting to note that WCW feels that claiming Martel is a former WWF tag team champion will give him more credibility than if he were a former AWA World Champion.
- It tuirns out his debut was delayed because he had difficulty obtaining a working VISA as he is a Canadian.
- The crowd chanted "boring" in his debut match with Brad Armstrong.
- Curt Hennig will be pushed in Japan.
- WCW was unsuccessful in obtaining Oscar De La Hoya (http://www.oscardelahoya.com/) to counteract WWF's Mike Tyson. We feel the most interesting matchup in wrestling right now is Vince McMahon and Don King. One is a member of the Hairclub for men while the other has more hair than he knows what to do with.
- In another example of WCW's booking patterns, Diamond Dallas Page (http://wcwwrestling.com/indiv/ddp/)
was on 99x, an Atlanta radio station last Monday morning and did not know who his opponent would be. This also came from hadeswrestling.com.
- We also found that Vincent is not the only WCW wrestler who wrestles in Guess jeans. Page wore the Guess jeans against Nash on Thursday Thunder.
- In two weeks since Starrcade, WCW has practically shown the show on free television. They have actually replayed the two main events of the program. They have also aired rematches of Goldberg-McMichael and Sting-Hogan. They also aired an almost duplicate six-man match last week on Nitro.
- Mike Tenay mentioned on the WCW Hotline (http://wcwwrestling.com/hotline) on January 5th that Columbus (Georgia) Ledger (http://www.l-e-o.com/index.html) had an article on Goldberg. In it Goldberg credited Arn Anderson for his ring work. If anyone has access to this article we would be interested in viewing it.
- In other Bill Goldberg information, we checked the Georgia All-Time Lettermen list (http://www.sports.uga.edu/football/history/lettermen.html). Goldebrg's full name is William Scott Goldberg. He lettered each season from 1986-1989 and served as a defensive captain. Also on the list is retired wrestler Dan Spivey who lettered from 1972-74.
- Goldberg is now requesting to go by his last name only which seem to be en vogue with WCW newcomers. Goldberg, Kidman, Saturn...
- Tenay also reported that Buddy Landel visited WCW officials in Tennessee last month but that WCW was not interested in him. He still works the independent circuit.
- Dusty Rhodes is obviously upset over the announcing situation as he was not very subtle in telling Schiavone that he works very hard throughout the WCWSN.
- We don't blame Dusty since Lee Marshall got the other Thunder job. He goes by storyline too closely and that's all he knows. Example: The Steiner Brothers gaining brains w/Ted Dibiase. Yeah right? He tells what WCW wants whether it is true or not. At least no weasel jokes.
- Konnan has created own version of nWo in Promo Azteca with Villanos IV and V, Halloween (Ciclope), Damien and Psicosis.
- Eddy Guerrero teamed with Malenko in Japan, most notably at the end of the summer of 1996 when the fake Sting was created and initiated the entire Crow gimmick. This may be what Mike Tenay was referring to at Starrcade.
- THE NITRO REPORT
- Tape of Sting's first words in over a year on camera.
- We are live in Jacksonville, Florida.
- Zbyszko was trying to sound intelligent by mentioning the Babylonians and the Greeks. If Cornette can use Abraham Lincoln's name to give the NWA credibility, then Zbyszko can say whatever he wants.
- Okerlund live with the nWo and their limousines in the parking lot. Nash closed it by saying, "Savage don't want anything of me." As they all walk off pissed off Buff stops to smile and posed to the camera. Buff rules.
- Bill Goldberg defeated Jerry Flynn with the Jack Hammer in a matter of seconds.
- Flynn and Goldberg attempted to have a technical bout for a few seconds.
- After a bunch of moves with no transition Goldberg won with the Jack Hammer.
- Goldberg took a potato shot to the mouth and his mouth was a bloody mess after this match.
- Has Goldberg had a match yet where he didn't bleed or take a rough potato shot?
- The Nitro girls came out and Whisper is the newest one.
- Marty Jannetty defeated Black Cat with the Show Stopper..
- Jannetty is still wearing his Rocker attire.
- Jannetty came out to what we believe was Greg Valentine's ring music.
- Charlie will now not be able to use the ring name of Black Cat...
- Schiavone called Black Cat's elbow drop a "great move."
- Tenay mentioned that Jannetty is an accomplished tag team wrestler in other organization. He mentioned that Martel was a tag champ in the WWF why not Jannetty?
- The show stopper is a leg to the back of the head and grinding the head into the mat.
- Tenay didn't even try to say anything boring about Black Cat so we can only tell you he is Oriental and dull.
- Jannetty jumped up and down in the ring after the match, perhaps attempting to remind people that at one time people thought he was Shawn Michaels' equal.
- Charlie spent the commercial break attempting to replicate the show stopper on his brother. Charlie would later successfully execute the Pedigree on his brother at the exact moment this report was being saved to a diskette.
- Gene had a brief segment where he attempted to interview an irate Randy Savage and Elizabeth.
- Chris Benoit defeated Dean Malenko with the Crippler Crossface.
- Malenko came out first.
- Dean did his wrist shake for Big Bill.
- First nonsquash.
- This is the first time since October that Benoit did not fight a member of the flock.
- The announcers talk about Benoit not winning a championship.
- The Flock was at ringside.
- Sign says "Bring back Arn."
- Benoit can chop like a mug.
- Some fan was talking on his cell phone in the front row.
- Larry Z said Hall didn't even know how to get out of a wristlock. This is an inside comment because Shane Douglas has been quite vocal about that in the past in his criticism of Hall and the Kliq.
- The Flock jumped Benoit after the match.
- Saturn applied the Rings of Saturn.
- Zbyszko in reference to Raven: "Somebody go pull his eyebrow out of his eyeball" And this is the master of the game of human chess?
- Benoit had to win to advance the storyline because he has a big PPV match and Malenko does not.
- J.J. Dillon goes over fining Lex Luger and Randy Savage. Savage gets fined $5000 for hitting Eric Bischoff. Savage came out and yelled in Dillon's face, "Take that back right now."
- Bischoff came out and said he would pay the money. Savage said it wasn't the money it was the principle. Okerlund then debated whether Bischoff had the money. Funny.
- Nitro Girls
- Tayo was suspended last week, according to Madden, for chasing Mark Madden, but is back this week.
- Okerlund is in the ring to inverview the US Champ DDP
- Huge pop for the master of the Diamond Cutter
- "Good Gawd" DDP is "jacked in Jacksonville!!!"
- DDP/Luger vs Savage/Big Kev for this Thursday's Thunder
- The weather forecast for this Thursday is crackle and bang!
- Some fans yelled "Sit Down!"
- Sign: Wrestling's Worst Failure
- DDP almost took off Scheme Gene's head doing his point around the arena.
- Booker T over Saturn to retain the TV Title
- Saturn looks like Charlie's Uncle Bennie. That's scary!
- Booker's goggles look like Lodi's except for the stylish fact that they're black and they're shades.
- Impressive series of belly-to-back suplexes by Saturn.
- Booker's matches are much more impressive without an ugly woman acccompanying him at ringside.
- Saturn pins Booker T with his feet on the ropes, but the match is restarted because Rick Martel told the ref what happened.
- Booker begins to raise the roof with a sideslam.
- Booker T wins with the Harlem Hangover.
- Rick Martel asks for a title shot and Booker gives it to him. The title shot that is.
- I guess anyone can ask to restart the bell after the Bret Hart incident.
- Booker T was actually understandable after the match. It was the first time we heard him speak two sentences without using the term "sucka!"
- Nick Lambros comes out with the Giant for an interview with Bill's favorite announcer Scheme Gene
- Lambros is the worst on camera personality in the history of wrestling.
- Announces that no satisfactory explanation for Nash's absence at Starrcade is not acceptable.
- If the nWo does not come up with $1.5 million bond, Big Kev is suspended for 1 year.
- Gene: "That's stiff" Lambros: "That's not stiff"
- Bischoff, Hogan, Kev, and Henry Holmes come to the ring to accept Lambros's demand for a $1.5 million appearance guarantee as long as the Giant does not come within 150 feet of Big Kev or the Giant will forfeit.
- Gene: "We have TV cameras over here gentlemen" LOL
- Nash gets in Giant's face to provoke him to touch him so the Giant will forfeit his match at Souled Out.
- Henry Holmes is Hogan's attorney and now represents Big Kev also.
- We stated that Lambros was the worst on camera personality in wrestling history, but after Henry Holmes debuted, Lambros is the second worst.
- We would be remiss if we did not say that this is the stupidest angle in wrestling history. Yes the Golddust gimmick is included. At least we get the annual restraining order out of the way early.
- This reminds us of the Ultimate Warrior's performance bond.
- Black and White footage of Luger and Savage.
- The Brain joins the set for hour number 2.
- Hugh Morrus does the inevitable job to Lex Luger.
- Just remember, Buff is the real Total Package.
- Afterall, he did win the Body on Body match at Starrcade.
- Tony mentions that the NFC title game was WCW as Reggie White and the Packers defeated Kevin Greene and the 49ers.
- Heenan: "Kevin Nash is no jockey in the Kentucky Derby". hah
- Luger is in the best shape of his life just like Curt Hennig was.
- Luger wins via the Rack and here comes another...Liz.
- Liz sets up Luger to be attacked by Savage in his new trunks strongly resembling Converse tennis shoes.
- Liz slaps Luger and they flee to the back.
- DDP comes out and as he kneels to check on Luger, a fan takes his hat provoking him to yell "Gimme my hat!"
- Hennan notes that Luger is in the peak of his career. That's a sad thought.
- More Nitro Girls. YEESSSSSSS
- Tony talks about Scott Steiner being selfish about getting the win in matches in recent weeks.
- Heenan tells Schiavone that he's selfish because he does not have a brother. OK
- Show footage of Steiner's from Thursday Thunder.
- Mongo over Jericho with his spike piledriver
- We presume that Jericho is no longer the co-chairman of WCW since he does not have a new chair this week.
- Nice pop for Mongo
- Get haircuts, hippies!
- Schiavone is pretending that Jericho was once a fan favorite.
- With most newcomers, we like Jericho as a heel.
- Mongo is dominating Jericho.
- Jericho takes Mongo off the top rope with a super frankensteiner.
- Jericho gives a nice dropkick to Mongo's knee.
- Mongo plants Jericho with the spike piledriver.
- Tenay: "Mongo never scored a TD in the NFL, so he spikes his opponents in wrestling to make up for it." Quote Tenay, Nevermore.
- Footage shown of Juvy winning the Cruiserweight Title last week.
- After the break, they show Jericho in the ring yelling at the fans until he realizes that the cameras are on. Then he says that after jobbing to Mongo, he can lose with dignity. Says that it will never happen again.
- Man I like this guy.
- Heenan: "Go in the back and write 'Loser' on the chalkboard 100 times."
- Air Juvy retains the title in a defense to Rey Misterio, Jr.
- Rey Misterio enters the ring, but Jericho does not leave.
- Little Rey needs to teach Air Juvy some English.
- Jericho attacks Rey with a huge backbreaker and the Liontamer
- Air Juvy comes out and slips off the top rope. Hah
- Everytime Juvy comes out, we expect him to bring out some Tostido Salsa with that music.
- Juvy begins to open up a can on Rey.
- Juvy hits the 450 splash to retain the Cruiserweight belt.
- Man it scares me when he does this since I saw him separate his elbow at a house show with this move.
- Charles Robinson has reffed every Cruiserweight match thus far
- Footage of Dillon taking the title from Sting on Thunder
- Hogan comes out for another interview. I guess I'll go to the Crapper 3:16
- While looking for a Jimi Hendrix CD this week, I noticed that Voo Doo Child was spelled Voo Doo Chile. Go figure.
- "Henry Holmes is here to 'rectify' the wrong." Is he here to "rectify" the stiff too?
- Hogan, what is he good for? Absolutely nothing. Say it again.
- Random Question: Why does Hogan come out to Voo Doo Chile and leave to the nWo theme?
- We would have switched over to Raw, but due to the fact that I tape Nitros I can't do it.
- Yes, a promo for Flair. And oh yeah, his opponent that other guy..
- We like Hart, but he can't compete with Flair. Whoooooo!!!
- Welcome to WCW Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart
- Gene talked about the Anvil as a football star at UCLA
- Note from Chan: "My goatee used to be that long."
- The best thing you can say about Neidhart is that he's Bret Hart's brother-in-law.
- He says that Flair is not the best.
- When was the last time a wrestler debuted and said that another wrestler was the best.
- The Nature Boy comes out.
- Flair: "Say it to my face"
Anvil: "Hart is the best"
- Flair is the king of the wild frontier
- Anvil: "I was born with my gear on". Hah, so was Charlie
- Neidhart just doesn't look the same without his pretty pink
- Flair is the baddest man in the sport because he can wrestle in his dress clothes.
- Flair puts on the Figure Four around the ring post. Go Flair.
- Bret was late on his run in because it was obvious that Flair was looking for him.
- Bret runs like a girl.
- Flair decked Billy Silverman which is something we would have done months ago. The nest thing about Silverman is his initial are B.S.
- Be sure to call 1-800-YesCredit
- Be sure to order your official wrestling pin set. That is nuts.
- How convenient, after the hot girls from the 1-800-YesCredit commercial, we have the Nitro Girls.
- Nash would be better served if he could pay $1.5 million to sleep with Spice
- Michael "Buff"er is here to introduce the main event.
- For the 1000's in attendance and the millions of Chan's and Charlie's watching around the world.......
- Big Kev and the Bad Guy over the (Ein)Steiners for the World Titles
- We all know that Charlie is not the only one doing the Scott Hall fist pump along with Hall. [Note From Bill: I thought that was a secret between us...]
- They are teasing dissension between the Outsiders.
- Survey says........Good guys
- Sign: Larry fears Hall
- Once again, Hall/Nash are left to work the audience during the commercial because they can do that kind of thing.
- For all of you kids out there, do not bodyslam your little brother or sister on the bed, because Charlie did that once and broke his brother's boxspring.
- Charlie did not learn his lesson as there was almost a near repeat of that incident tonight.
- We're waiting to see Hall do the Karate Kid crane again.
- Big pop for the Steiners....Why?
- With all the 'roids going in Scott's body, why does he have DiBiase carry the belts?
- Remember when Scott had a neck?
- Big Kev is flexing for Scott, that's cool.
- Scott Steiner throws like a girl.
- Macho has arrived at ringside and points at the Big Mang
- Why does Tony have the audacity to lower the title of "Loose Cannon" from Pillman to Savage.
- Random Wrestling Point: Chan says that he wouldn't even compare his mother to Duggan....
- Oh my gosh, Rick gave the Big Mang a powerslam! Must be punishment from his absence.
- The Bad Guy did the impossible, he chokeslammed Scott who just happens to be neckless.
- The brace is obviously showing through his gear.
- Savage must be stalking a Slim Jim because he has been at ringside and done nothing. How many Slim Jims will $1.5 million buy?
- Kev goes to kick Rick, and Hall ducks.
- Savage nails Rick with an elbow and he attempted to hit Big Kev.
- The Outsiders are new Champs. Charlie is marking out big time. Even though he is 3 miles away, Charlie knows that Matt is too. : - )
- Big argument in the ranks of the nWo as we fade to the replay.
- Trivia answer: Sting said in a long monologue, known for its symbolism with his back to the camera, "The only thing sure about Sting is that nothing is for sure."
- Once again, thanks for all the feedback. Charlie will be taking over for a few weeks starting next week while I take a brief sabbatical. Remember until next week, if the 3:16 comes up on your beeper, your @ss is ours.
