WCW Saturday Night - Saturday, 02/07/98
- Hello, DDT Digest fans. I'm Wade, the new WCW Saturday Night reporter. I hope you enjoy reading. If you have any comments/compliments/criticism/etc., send them to wrestling@lunenburg.org.
- And I'll also take this opportunity to plug some work I've done. I've got a listing of WCW wrestlers and their hometowns up at http://www.lunenburg.org/wrestling/. Stop by and have a look!
- Now, onto the Muthaship, with your hosts, Mike Tenay and Scott Hudson.
- Match 1: "What's Got Into" The Cat (Friskies, of course) pinned "I Know I Saw That Push Around Here Somewhere..." Glacier after the Feliner
- Going heel hasn't shortened Glacier's ring entrance in the least, sad to say. I went and repaved the Capital Beltway while he was walking down the aisle.
- Ernest Miller has apparently officially changed his name to "The Cat." I can see the endorsements for Meow Mix and Fresh Step coming his way.
- They start out frailin' on each other, and The Cat gets the better end of that.
- A nice round kick by the Kitty.
- The Cat chases Glacier around the outside of the ring. Glacier rolls back in and drops The Cat's throat over the top rope.
- Glacier brings him back in with a suplex, and then uses a chokehold.
- Glacier punching on The Cat in the corner.
- Glacier takes a long time waiting on the top, and gets met with a foot to the face as he jumps off.
- Glacier goes for the Cryonic Kick and misses.
- The Cat hits his triple-jump spin kick for the win. Meow.
- Yawn.
- Match 2: Public "Domain" Enemy beat Steve & Scott Armstrong when Rocco Rock pinned Scott Armstrong after the Drive By
- I don't know if I'd consider Rock & Grunge "Public Enemies" or "Missing Persons." Those two have vanished off the face of the Earth. Not that I'm really complaining, but still.
- One of the Armstrongs flexes his bicep to the camera and says "Armstrong. Boom, boom, boom."
- And the Bushwackers, I mean the Public Enemy, come out.
- The Armstrongs attack early, but it comes to naught.
- I'm afraid that the Armstrong Curse is going to continue tonight.
- This match is more comic relief than anything else thus far.
- One of the Armstrongs bodyslams the other onto Rock.
- Nice doubleteams by the Armstrongs thus far.
- Scott Armstrong mocks the Public Enemy dance for Grunge.
- Steve Armstrong is the one with "SA" on his tights.
- Requisite PE comeback with Grunge taking out both Armstrongs.
- Swinging neckbreaker by Grunge on Scott Armstrong.
- Which leads to the Drive By and a PE win.
- And the crowd dances. Yeah, just wait 'til the Disco Inferno shows up.
- Promo for Savage/Luger at SuperBrawl
- Match 3: Bobby "Purple" Blaze pinned Barry "King of the Jobbers" Horowitz with a Northern Lights Suplex
- All I know about Blaze is that he used to wrestle for Smoky Mountain Wrestling, and held their TV Title at one point.
- And Horowitz, well, we all know about that guy. Jobbers worldwide call him "Sire."
- Blaze looks like he's been training at the "Body By Vader" gym. He probably gets Steve Regal to spot him on the doughnut machine.
- Horowitz pats himself on the back.
- Lots of armlocks and leglocks early on in the match.
- Blaze and Horowitz jawing at each other.
- Zzzzzz....
- Nice kneelift by Horowitz. Announcers refer to Mr. Wrestling II. Back in the day when a kneelift could be used as a finisher.
- Horowitz puts his foot on the turnbuckle, and Horowitz slams Blaze's head into the boot.
- Horowitz sets up for a DDT, pats himself on the back, and Blaze reverses it into a Northern Lights Suplex for the win.
- Gene plugs his hotline, talking about a big star leaving, and a WCW star who may be out of wrestling for 5 months.
- Match 4: Chris Jericho "And The Walls Came A 'Tumblin' Down" made Chavo Guerrero Jr. submit to the Liontamer
- Duh duh duh....Evenflow....duh duh duh
- Jericho is still wearing the Rey Misterio Jr. shirt.
- Tenay mentions that Jericho, Malenko, and Misterio are the three three-time Cruiserweight champions.
- Jericho babbles about his great fans, and how he's the greatest Cruiserweight champion of all time. He calls his fans "Jerichoholics," and says that WCW has started a fan club for him.
- Chavo's definitely getting better. Another year or two, he could be a contenda'.
- Clean break on the ropes by Jericho. The fans aren't impressed.
- Apparently, they're going to have a huge announcement about SuperBrawl sometime tonight. Hmm, I wonder if it'll be early tonight, or late???
- Nice headscissors by Guerrero.
- And an IMPRESSIVE dropkick.

- Jericho hits a spinning side suplex, and then puts Chavo in the Liontamer for the submission win.
- This week in WCW Motorsports
- Who cares, really? Monster trucks? Uh-huh.
- Clips of Hogan and Savage's problems from Thunder (I think. Sting vs. Savage, whenever that was).
- Match 5: "The Innovator of Flab" Louie Spicolli pinned Mark "Falling" Starr after a Death Valley Driver
- If Starr was a midget wrestler, he could be Mark "White Dwarf" Starr.
- The announcers are referring to Spicolli as the "nWo Pledge"
- Spicolli's wearing an Outsiders shirt.
- Spicolli looks like he's chanelling the spirit, or at least the body, of Chris Farley.
- Spicolli hits a hotshot on Starr.
- Spicolli suplexes Starr into the ring over the top rope.
- Starr gets a two-count with a sunset flip.
- Spicolli gives the nWo hand sign.
- Starr tries to come back with a backdrop, but misses a dropkick.
- Spicolli with a very nice spinebuster.
- Spicolli hits Starr with the Death Valley Driver for the easy win.
- Hacksaw Jim "Can I Borrow Your Patch, Mr. Riggs?" Duggan rants in the locker room.
- Sheesh, this is painful to listen to.
- He's basically talking about his gimmick is not having a gimmick, aside from carrying a big piece of wood and a flag around.
- Oh, and his glass eye.
- Does Duggan have any sense left whatsoever?
- Match 6: Bill Goldberg "Standard" pinned Disco Inferno with the Jackhammer
- Disco Fever, Disco Fever, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah....
- Disco still looks like he's having fun, even when he's gonna job hard.
- Disco gets the mic. He says that everyone came to see the Disco Inferno dance. The crowd responds fairly positively, so he dances some more.
- Hudson: "Disco, shaking his collective booty in the ring."
- Bill Goldberg comes out to eat his vegetables. Specifically, "squash."
- Hey, Goldberg, what are the voices in your head telling you now?
- Goldberg manhandling Disco.
- Goldberg badly misses his leglock, but then puts it on again.
- A big gorilla press into a powerslam by Goldberg.
- Disco comes back by kicking Goldberg in the knee, but Goldberg doesn't sell it at all.
- Goldberg spears Disco with the diving tackle.
- Goldberg then, amazingly enough, executes a top-rope hurricanrana into a pin for the win!!!!
- Nah, just pulling your leg. Jackhammer. Splat. Win.
- Clips from the Steiners vs. Bagwell/Nash match from Nitro.
- Match 7: Chris "Gomez" Adams pinned Brad "Pointless Heel Turn" Armstrong after the Superkick
- Chris Adams comes out. He's certainly showing his age.
- Brad Armstrong looks to be in good shape. I wonder if the about 10-year-delayed Brad Armstrong push will start tonight?
- Yeah, and if I put a little coat on a snowball, it'd last a while in Hell.
- Armstrong showing his "rough edge." Yeah, for all the good it's done him.
- In case you didn't know, my name is Wade, and I'm a Brad Armstrong fan.
- Armstrong sells a shove by Adams like it was a broken leg.
- The announcers talk about Adams and Gino Hernandez back in World Class.
- They also mention "Bullet" Bob Armstrong, Brad/Scott/Steve's dad.
- Armstrong chokes Adams. Armstrong plays a good heel. It's a shame that he's lost in the big WCW talent pool.
- Armstrong uses the ropes to add leverage to his chinlock.
- It's been almost all Armstrong so far.
- Armstrong misses a dropkick, allowing Adams to come back with a powerslam.
- Adams with a belly-to-back suplex.
- Adams hits some forearms to the back of Armstrong's neck, and then gives the signal for the Superkick.
- Adams hits the Superkick for the win.
- Glacier comes out and applauds Adams.
- Glacier says that Adams looks pretty good for a man his age, but he's using a move that's a lot like the Cryonic Kick (the move Glacier made famous).
- Adams says that he's been using the Superkick when Glacier was a punk kid in the front row wishing he was a wrestler.
- Adams offers to show Glacier a real superkick right then and there, but Glacier bails.
- Clips of the Benoit/DDP match from Thunder.
- Match 7: Greg "Hey, WCW...Two People Can Use The Figure Four" Valentine beat Mike "Dulles" Tolbert after an elbowsmash
- Tolbert's new. He's pretty built.
- It's pretty sad to see Valentine these days. He was so good, and he's eroded so much.
- Tolbert starts off strong, and hits a few dropkicks.
- Valentine with a couple of elbowsmashes.
- Valentine's just going through the motions tonight.
- Valentine hits a belly-to-back suplex on Tolbert.

- Silver King runs off the ropes and catches Guerrero with a spinning DDT.
- Guerrero hits his slingshot-somersault splash.
- Impressive dropkick by Silver King.
- Silver King misses a moonsault, but lands on his feet. King then hits Eddie with a tilt-a-whirl suplex on Guerrero.
- King tries another moonsault, but Guerrero gets his knees up.
- Guerrero lands a brainbuster, and then sets up for the Frog Splash.
- Guerrero hits the Frog Spash for the win. That's one splash that actually looks like it has some impact behind it.
- Match 9: Chris "Uncle" Benoit beat Raven by disqualification when the Flock interfered.
- The big announcement: Benoit vs. DDP for the US Title at SuperBrawl.
- Raven: "Wah, wah, wah....hard life....wah...."
- Raven says he didn't tap out to the Crippler Crossface, and that he even enjoyed it.
- Commercial
- Benoit comes out, looking as pissed off as usual.
- Benoit gets the mic.
- Benoit says that this chapter in his career has ended, but the book has yet to be closed. Benoit says that Raven didn't tap out of the Crossface, because he was knocked out, and got carried out.
- Staredown to start.
- Raven runs out with a forearm on Benoit. Benoit smiles.
- Benoit takes him down with a tackle, and Kidman runs in.
- Benoit throws Kidman in the air.
- The rest of the flock comes in, and Benoit puts the Crossface on Sick Boy. Riggs comes in to break the hold.
- Riggs works over Benoit, and the Flock joins in.
- Raven tells the Flock to pick Benoit up. Raven tells Benoit to look into his eyes, and see the futility that is his future.
- The locker room empties of jobbers to break them up. That's not something you see much anymore.
- Benoit and Raven break off from the jobbers to fight each other.
- The fight goes outside, and ends with Benoit standing in the ring alone.
