WCW Saturday Night - Saturday, 03/14/98
Closed Captioning For DDT Digest Sponsored By...
- Welcome back to another week of DDT Digest WCW Saturday Night reports!
- Before we get started, I'd like to make a little plug. As some readers may know, I've been compiling a reference to WCW wrestlers, hometowns, and finishers. Well, thanks to some help from the mysterious "THUNDERDM9," I'm 99.9% done with the hometowns! I've got everyone from "Mean Mike" to Evan Courageous to Hollywood Hogan! If you're interested in this sort of thing, it's located at http://www.lunenburg.org/wrestling/hailingfrom.shtml
. If you stop by and have a look, drop me a line to let me know what you think about it!
- A quick little note on Bill's Thursday Thunder report, where he said that the DDT Digest staff can't understand why Norton is so big in Japan. I dunno, I kinda dig the guy. He's a throwback to the old-school brawler, I think. He's one of the few big guys that can credibly sell the "opponent tries to shoulderblock him and falls down" move, 'cause the guy's built like a brick wall. I don't think he's gotten the chance to show what he can do over here. Then again, he could just be a big ol' stiff. Who can say?
- Now onto the Muthaship, with your hosts "M.C. Shine" Scott Hudson and "Iron Pyrite" Mike Tenay...
- Match 1: Chris Adams and Glacier fought to a double-countout
- Heck, if I knew Glacier would start the show, I would have written my little introduction while he was walking to the ring.
- It just doesn't fit when a "Mortal Kombat" mystical fighter like Glacier gets a mic and talks like a redneck.
- They talk about Glacier's jealousy. Jealous of The Cat, jealous of Adams' Superkick, jealous that other wrestlers get put in angles that make an ounce of sense....
- Adams isn't wearing his "shiny pants" this week.
- Adams nearly trips over a cord as he walks to the ring. Doh!
- Glacier attacks as Adams enters the ring.
- Glacier chops Adams, and does his little "kata," allowing Adams to pull his legs up and send Glacier face-first to the mat.
- Hudson says that Mortis and Wrath have been successful, distracting Glacier to the point that he's concerned about Adams' finisher. I thought we'd all agreed to forget that "Blood Runs Cold" ever happened.
- Adams dives through the ropes onto Glacier. That old guy can still move!
- Glacier works Adams over on the outside.
- Glacier tries to kick Adams, but he ducks, and Adams works Glacier's knee over with a chair.
- Adams rolls Glacier back in, and ties him to the Tree of Woe.
- Adams Superkicks Glacier in the knee as Glacier's in the tree.
- Adams applies a leglock to Glacier's hurt knee.
- Adams throws Glacier to the outside.
- Adams signals for the Superkick on the outside.
- As he goes for it, Glacier connects with the Cryonic Kick. Well, that's what the script says. In reality, he was a mile off.
- Nick Patrick counts to ten, and Glacier and Adams recover enough to continue fighting as we go to commercial.
- Coming up later tonight: Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Chris Jericho against Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko, Rick Steiner vs. Vincent (HA!), and Curt Hennig and Brian Adams vs. Jim Neidhart and Davey Boy Smith.
- Match 2: Juventud Guerrera, Ciclope, and Super Calo defeated Villano IV, Villano V, and Silver King when Guererra pinned X after a 450 Kneedrop
- Silver King still looks like the Frito Bandito on speed.
- I kinda dig Ciclope's outfit. Charlie Brown's Great Pumpkin meets Scarecrow from Batman.
- Tenay reminds us not to be fooled by King's "stocky" physique. He's not fat, he's festively plump.
- Spining DDT by King.
- Calo hits a tilt-a-whirl slam.
- Ciclope with a missile dropkick on a Villano.
- Juventud with a nice springboard dropkick, followed by a frankensteiner.
- Double "Big Boot" by King and a Villano on Guerrera.
- They talk about Juventud refusing to submit against Norton.
- Los Rudos are performing some nice doubleteams.
- Impressive Superkick by King, who misses a moonsault.
- The faces aren't doing too well.
- Apparently, we've gotten off the script, as people just stand around for a bit, then start flinging themselves out of the ring.
- Juventud and Villano V are alone in the ring, and Guerrera hits the JuviDriver in the corner.
- Juventud goes up top, and attempts his 450 Splash, but aims a bit too far out, and ends up performing a 450 Kneedrop instead. He then covers the Villano for the win!
- Post match, the referee, Ciclope, and Calo help Guerrera to his feet.
- Raven rambles.
- I'm sorry, but my brain shuts off every time this fool starts talking, so I didn't get what he was saying. Probably something about Benoit, Page, and life sucking.
- Promo for Bret Hart vs. the nWo
- I don't know about anyone else, but Bret Hart really hasn't interested me thus far in WCW.
- Match 3: Bill Goldberg pinned "Crook and" Chase Tatum with the Jackhammer
- Huge pop for Goldberg, as per usual.
- They say that Goldberg is on a 53-match unbeaten streak since his debut against Hugh Morrus in September.
- Tatum is pretty big.
- Golberg flips Tatum over, gives him a couple of knees against the ropes, and hits his diving tackle.
- Jackhammer. Splat. Victim #54.
- That's really all there was to the match. I didn't leave stuff out. Sheesh.
- Promo for Randy Savage.
- Tenay plugs Mean Gene's hotline.
- Match 4: High Voltage defeated Disorderly Conduct when Kaos pinned Mean Mike with the Voltmeter
- The former Texas Jobmen come out to stake their claim to the Mulkey legacy.
- "Voltage Twins powers . . . activate!"
- Rage starts off with some armlocks.
- Nice leapfrog by Rage, but he gets clotheslined for his troubles.
- Nice doubleteam by High Voltage, too.
- Double-gorilla-press by the Volts on a Disorderly.
- I REALLY don't think the announcers can tell the Disorderlies apart, and thus, I don't know which one is in the ring. Don't guess it really matters.
- Nice doubleteam side-suplex/legdrop by the Volts.
- The Disorderlies come back with some dastardly doubleteams.
- Mean Mike with a jawbreaker on Kaos.
- Woah! They mentioned which Disorderly was which.
- Combo elbowdrop/neckbreaker by the Disorderlies.
- Overhead release belly-to-belly suplex on Mean Mike by Rage.
- They then set up for, and hit, the Voltmeter for the win.
- This week in WCW Motorsports...
- Some people probably spit at some point.
- Footage from Giant, Savage, and Sting vs. Hall, Nash, and Hogan on Nitro.
- Ed Frickin' Leslie is one of the biggest disgraces I've seen in a long time.
- I think Leslie's the only wrestler around today who could make the Stone Cold Stunner/Chartbuster/Ace Crusher look lame.
- Match 5: The Cat pinned Psychosis after the Feliner
- Good to see Psychosis.
- Even though he's going to lose to WCW's own Karate Fighter, Kitty B. Badd.
- Meow Mix is wearing his Karate outfit tonight, instead of his kickboxing duds.
- The announcers talk about the "new nWo guy" making an "impressive debut" and being "attached to Hogan."
- Dropkick in the corner by Psychosis.
- Spinning round kick from "Fresh Step"
- Psychosis attacks Miller as he slides into the ring.
- Psychosis is arguing with referee Mark "The Shooter" Curtis.
- Top-rope frankensteiner from Psychosis for a two-count.
- Psycosis tries it again, but Litterbox holds on.
- Nice gorilla-press by The Cat.
- He finishes it off with the Feliner.
- Sign idea: "Spay Earnest Miller."
- Promo for Sting vs. Hall
- Call me crazy, but I think Hall might get the belt at Uncensored.
- Match 6: Raven and Saturn defeated Wayne Bloom and Mike Enos when Raven pinned Bloom after the Evenflow DDT
- I still think that Enos looks like a buffed-up Woody Harrelson.
- "More Body Holes Than Allowed By Law" come out.

- Some stalling to begin.
- Saturn's wrestling with his do-rag on.
- Saturn hits a Northern Lights suplex for two.

- Double-gorilla-press-Hotshot from the former Destruction Crew.
- Enos and Bloom have been in control thus far.
- They talk about Saturn's knee surgery.
- Snap suplex from Saturn, as Raven gets a chair.
- Saturn sets up the chair, and Raven baseball-slide-dropkicks it into Enos' face.
- Saturn misses a second-turnbuckle moonsault, allowing Enos to make the tag.
- Bloom starts clearing house.
- Bloom with an avalanche splash on Raven in the corner.
- Bloom knocks Saturn off the apron, turns around, and gets a boot to the gut from Raven.
- Raven finishes him off with the "Insert Pearl Jam Song Here" DDT for the win.
- Match 7: La Parka pinned Lenny Lane after the Top-Turnbuckle Corkscrew Plancha
- Lenny Lane comes in, fresh off his Oscar-nominated portrayal of Chris Jericho.
- Yes! La Parka! Wearing the yellow outfit tonight.
- La Parka Polka!!!
- La Parka plays his air-guitar-chair.
- La Parka motions Lane out of the way, and struts.
- Lane dropkicks La Parka in the gut, and armdrags him.
- Lane backdrops La Parka over the top rope, and then does a rope-flip plancha to La Parka on the outside.

- La Parka throws Lane into the chair, which he'd set up against the ring.
- La Parka goes up top, but gets met with boots as he comes off.

- Lane flips La Parka over the top, but La Parka gives him a shoulder to the gut.
- La Parka quickly climbs the turnbuckles, and hits his Corkscrew Plancha for the win.
- Lane was pretty impressive tonight. He reminds me quite a bit of "Sweet" Stan Lane.
- Promo for Curt Hennig and Rick Rude
- Footage from Giant challenging the nWo on Thunder, and the Sting/Savage/bungee-cord hilarity
- Match 8: Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit defeated WCW World Cruiserweight Champion Chris Jericho and Chavo Guerrero Jr. when Malenko made Guerrero submit to the Texas Cloverleaf
- The coolest tag team in WCW today - Benoit and Malenko.
- Chavo doesn't look happy to be there. He's mouthing "I can't believe I'm doing this."
- Disagreement between Chavo and Jericho about who will start against Malenko.

- Chavo runs into the ropes, but gets a knee in the back from Jericho.
- Malenko clotheslines Chavo and Jericho, and then picks Chavo up on his shoulders.
- Chavo tries a sunset flip, but Malenko flips out of it, and slaps on the Texas Cloverleaf for the win.
- Jericho hightails it, and leaves Chavo in the ring.
- Promo for Raven/Benoit/Page
- Match 9: Rick Steiner (w/Ted DiBiase) pinned Vincent after the Top-Rope Bulldog
- I wonder if this is going to be any more of a squash than the last Steiner/Vincent match? I wonder if it could be?
- Vincent comes out to be the sacrifical lamb.
- Vince's white sunglasses look pretty stoopid.
- Vincent is saying that he'll have better luck against Rick this time.
- Rick's got a mic.
- Steiner says that he's WCW, and says that he's going to start taking out nWo guys, starting with Vincent.

- And that's all she wrote! You can look for me on Monday, as I do the show report while the DDT Digest "Triple Threat," um, "reports" from a Hooters Nitro party. Tough work if you can get it, huh?
