WCW Saturday Night - Saturday, 04/05/98
Insert your own joke here...
- And we're back for another edition of "As The Muthaship Turns..."
- Sorry about not having a report last week. I realized after I got to my Dad's house in Richmond that I'd forgotten to set my VCR. Doh!
- Unix buffs might appreciate this: I've set up a cron-job to email me now and remind me to set the VCR.
- Well, it's now been a little less than a week since the "Syxx-bomb" was dropped by the WWF. What did it mean? Well, it means one in the mythical "points" column for Our Cousin Vinny. Aside from that, I'm not sure.
I've been impressed with Syxx's ability since he was The Lightning Kid in Global, back in the proverbial "day." However, I'm not sure what his role will be within DX. He's not really strong on the mic, and can't wrestle, so I'm guessing that Vince will send him out there, crotch-chopping, to thumb his nose at Bischoff.
- For those of you who don't read the Usenet group rec.sport.pro-wrestling, first off - good for you. It's kind of a cesspool. Secondly, though, there's a guy by the name of Michael Naimark who has been posting some very good editorial pieces. This DejaNews link should take you to a listing of his articles - I highly recommend them.
- A little sneaky thing I noticed at the Fairfax Thunder, but forgot to mention: At the beginning of the show, Dave Penzer came out and said the best way to get on TV was to have a sign. He asked if anyone in the crowd brought a sign, and of course, everyone held theirs up. Doug Dillinger then came around and collected all of the "naughty" signs (example: "Savage: Snap Into My Slim Jim"). I thought that was a pretty sneaky, and effective, way to collect some of the signs before the cameras started rolling.
- Also, a couple of my own pieces of work I'd like to announce:
- And now, throw your mittens around your kittens and away we go!!!!!
- Sorry, my girlfriend wanted to go see the re-release of "Grease" today, and, y'know....
- Match 1: Psychosis pinned William Worthy after the Top-Rope Guillotine Legdrop
- The WCW Executive Committee has flipped a coin, so Psychosis gets to come out as a face tonight.
- He's a lot more believable as a heel.
- Tenay refers to "The Cornerstones" of TBS - WCW Saturday Night, and the Atlanta Braves. Tonight's show is only an hour long due to the Braves game.
- Hudson coins a phrase: "Psychosis is one of the most aptly named Luchadores."
- Worthy has a drawing of "Deep Space Nine" on his tights.
- Worthy floors the Horned Guy with a shoulderblock.
- They're already plugging Spring Stampede.
- They mention that it's going to be Savage/Sting for the world title. Apparently, they haven't acknowledged Savage's supposed ACL tear yet.
- Worthy levels Psychosis with a clothesline.
- Worthy tries a tilt-a-whirl slam, but Psychosis flips out of it and hits a left-handed lariat.
- Spinwheel kick puts Worthy down.

- Russian Legsweep by Worthy for two.
- Worthy chokes Psychosis against the ropes.
- Another left-handed clothesline from Psychosis.

- Psychosis gets a back-elbow when he charges the corner.
- Worthy stands on the ropes and cheers, but Psychosis dropkicks him in the back.
- Worthy has his leg caught in the ropes as Psychosis goes up top.
- Psychosis comes off with the Guillotine Legdrop for the win.
- I just gotta say it: "Taco revolution? I'm there!"
- Tonight, Brian Adams will be taking on the British Bulldog, to further the Hart/Hennig feud that nobody cares about.
- Match 2: Kidman (w/Reese) pinned Evan Courageous with the Seven year Itch
- Kidman is getting a piggyback ride to the ring from Reese, and Kidman is picking what is presumably lice out of Reese's hair.
- Tenay calls Reese "the largest of the Luchadores." Uh, wait. That's La Parka. My bad. He really called him "the largest of the Flock."
- He'll be taking on Evan Courageous. It's apparently the trend to spell his last name "Kourageous" now. The "K" for "Kourageous" gets the big "W" for "Whatever."
- Toe-to-toe to start off, and Courageous comes out ahead.
- Something that vaguely resembled a flying headscissors from Courageous.
- Over-the-shoulder powerslam from Courageous.
- Tenay plays dumb on who "The Snake" is. Tenay, I don't think anyone is that dumb.
- Split-legged Spinebuster from Kidman.
- Slingshot-legdrop by the Itchy One.
- Kidman scratches.

- Apparently, we will have a new match for Spring Stampede will be announced tonight.
- Im-pressive dropkick from Kidman.
- Snap suplex by Courageous.
- A Couragous powerslam hits for two. As opposed to a cowardly powerslam, I guess.
- Top-rope lariat from Courageous, but he misses the springboard moonsault.
- Rope-spring bulldog from Kidman.
- Kidman hits a standing powerslam, and goes up top.
- The Seven-Year Itch spells the end for Courageous, no matter how you spell it.
- Promo for Sting/Savage at Spring Stampede.
- On Nitro this week: Goldberg, Bulldog, Raven, Eddie Guerrero, and Rick Steiner.
- Match 3: Prince Iaukea pinned Rick Fuller with the Northern Lights Suplex
- Rick Fuller comes out, with his "truck ran over me" tights on.
- Time to meet the current "15 minutes of fame" pushed guy, Prince Iaukea.
- Iaukea would be a lot cooler if he didn't do that little dance when he got in the ring.
- Iaukea is now the #1 contender to the Cruiserweight belt.
- Clean break against the ropes by Fuller.
- Fuller tries the big boot early, but Iaukea catches it.
- They talk about Iaukea carrying the torch for Dean Malenko.
- Iaukea tries a flying cross-body, but Fuller catches him. Fuller tries to run Iaukea into the corner, but Iaukea escapes.
- Fuller shoves Iaukea away like a rag doll.
- Fuller hits the big boot, flooring Iaukea.
- Fuller sets Iaukea up top, and just tosses him to the canvas.
- Apparently, Jericho wants to add Iaukea's little hair-knot to his trophies.
- Jericho's trophies thus far:
- Disco's headband.
- Juvi's mask.
- Misterio's knee.
- Malenko's dignity.
- Iaukea tries a top-rope sunset flip, but Fuller doesn't budge.
- Fuller with an over-the-shoulder backbreaker.
- Iaukea flips forward and, in one move, hits the Northern Lights Suplex for the win!
- nWo promo from Brian Adams
- Adams: "[Bulldog], you've got me on Saturday Night's main event." Doh! Now, Brian, what have we told you about mentioning the competition...
- Gene plugs his "Lorenzo" Lame-ass hotline.
- As a matter of fact, Lorenzo Lamas was in "Grease."
- Sorry. I promise that'll be the last "Grease" reference.
- Match 4: Chris Adams pinned Hardbody Harrison after the Superkick
- The trumpets bring out "Geritol" Chris Adams.
- Thunder will be back on TBS this Thursday.
- He'll be facing Fred Sanford.
- Adams shoves Harrison to the ground.
- An Adams shoulderblock takes Harrison down. That was the big one, Elizabeth.
- Harrison with a shoulderblock against the ropes.
- Harrison falls down whipping Adams into the corner.
- Adams with a suplex.
- Adams hits a clothesline.
- Adams is applying a beatdown like Rolf Schmidt to a chain-letter fool.
- Adams executes a very slow Hotshot.
- Adams goes up top.
- Harrison catches him, and throws him to the mat.

- Harrison's not very impressive.

- Adams with some forearms, and sets up for the Superkick.
- Adams hits the Superkick, and that's it.
- Glacier runs in, and applies the Cryonic Kick to the back of Adams' head.
- Glacier steps on a prone Harrison to get to the camera.
- Glacier: "Anyone who gets caught using my kick gets knocked out . . . cold."
- He should have said "Anyone who gets caught watching my matches will find themselves out . . . cold."
- This week in WCW Motorsports
- A bomb dropped in Bristol, TN, would have destroyed almost a full set of teeth.
- Promo for Spring Stampede - duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh . . . "bat match"
- Hmmmmm....."Tootsie caramel apple pops." That sounds pretty vile, actually. Kinda like Quaker flavored instant grits - Country ham and red-eye gravy, with imitation ham.
- Mmmmm.....imitation ham.....
- Match 5: The British Bulldog defeated Brian Adams by disqualification when Curt Hennig interfered
- Main event time.
- Brian Adams comes out, and only his relatives care.
- Commerical.
- The really bad recording brings out British Bulldog.
- Just signed: Chris Benoit vs. Booker T for the World TV Title.
- Adams attacks at the bell.
- They go outside, and Adams talks some smack.
- Bulldog blocks a ringsteps shot, and introduces Adams to the steps.
- And another one, in case the first one didn't take.
- Bulldog with a running clothesline, and a sloppy armdrag.
- Adams hits the low road on the outside.
- Bulldog ducks a clothesline, and starts forearming Adams in the head.

- Chris Benoit defeated Bobby Eaton.

- Hacksaw Jim Duggan beat a jobber dressed in Craig Pittman's old outfit.
- Randy Savage beat Jim Neidhart. After the match he called out Sting, who immediately locked Macho in the Scorpion and Macho was carried out. He is seriously hurt from what I've heard.
- There was little crowd reaction to a lot of these matches. Tonight on TBS they only showed the first few matches, so I'm guessing the rest
will air next week.
