WCW Saturday Night - Saturday, 04/12/98
It's time to get funky like a monkey on the muthaship!
- Welcome to another Braves-shortened edition of WCWs own version of "Lost in Space," WCW Saturday night!
- I hope everyone's getting their fill of Peeps, or Matzoh, or beer, or whatever this weekend. Celebrate the holidays!
- Mmmmm....Peeps. Those things scare me, but I still eat them.
- However, even I've gotta draw the line at the new neon blue ones.
- From all reports, it looks like Steve Regal is no longer eating the gub'ment cheese on the unemployment line. He's apparently signed with the WWF. Which is good . . . I like Regal. He's a decent wrestler, good on the mic, and cracks me up in the ring. Reports say that Regal will be given a big push in the WWF, to show any disgruntled WCW wrestlers that you don't have to be a Friend Of Hogan to make it in the wrestling world. Should be interesting.
- I unfortunately missed the first half of Thunder this week, so I didn't get to see Raven get the smack put down on him by that fan. Man, that's gotta suck. Number one, that fan was an idiot, and if he happened to "accidentally" get a nightstick shoved up his nether-regions back in the back, I wouldn't complain. But for Raven, it's gotta be worse. Your character is this guy who feels no pain, and who can stand up to all these tough guys, but you get yanked out of the ring by a fan, of all things! Then, when you try to regain the last shreds of your dignity with your speech, your mic goes dead, and you have to go get another one from a stagehand!
Days like that you just want to stay in bed.
- Well, that's about it from me for this week. I'm writing this Sunday morning, so I've gotta get ready to both go to church, and eat some Peeps.
- Match 1: Ultimo Dragon and Kaz Hayashi defeated Scott and Steve Armstrong when Hayashi pinned Scott Armstrong after a Top-Rope Senton Backsplash
- We start off with a tag team that hasn't won since the Roosevelt administration.
- According to Cubs Fan, even frickin' Disorderly Conduct got a win on Worldwide. When was the last time the Armstrongs got a win?
- According to Hudson, it'll be another short Muthaship, due to the Braves game.
- Dragon and Kaz Hayashi come out, and the Armstrongs attack.
- Scott Armstrong starts off by takin' it to Hayashi.
- Nice doubleteams by the Armstrongs while the referee tries to get Dragon out of the ring.
- Chavo Guerrero Jr. is out there to scout this match.
- Tenay mentions the Armstrong Curse, and the Armstrongs less-than-stellar won/loss record.
- Hayashi tries a springboard cross-body on both Armstrongs, but they catch him.
- Dragon comes in and dropkicks Hayashi in the back, knocking down both Armstrongs.
- Scott Armstrong falls for Dragon's headstand dropkick.
- Dragon with his Dragon Kicks, sending Scott into spasms.
- Nice diving somersault headbutt from the top by Hayashi.
- Hayashi comes off the top with a Senton Backsplash to pin Scott Armstrong.
- Quick match.
- Lee Marshall interviews Booker T
- Booker says he doesn't want to look past Finley.
- Booker says that he and Benoit had a couple of good matches, and it's "all good in the 'hood."
- Booker says he's ready to go all night long against Benoit, because he is one bad brother. Can we dig it?
- Tenay talks about the Hart/Neidhart/Smith vs. Rude/Hennig/Adams problems.
- I think Scott Hall should take a survey to find out if anyone out there gives a proverbial "rat's ass" about that feud.
- Match 2: Chris Benoit made Bobby Eaton submit to the Crippler Crossface
- Yes! Bobby Eaton! The heat machine boos, but Eaton's slapping hands.
- Yes! Benoit!!! This is going to rule! Of course, Eaton's going to get destroyed.
- Some fan in the audience does the thumb-across-the-throat move.
- Benoit kicks Eaton down against the corner.
- Eaton holds on to avoid a backdrop, and catches Benoit with a punch to the jaw.
- Nice backbreaker from Eaton.
- Eaton pulls an interesting armbreaker out of his bag of tricks, and stretches Benoit's arm against the ropes.
- Eaton locks on an armbar.
- Benoit fights out, but gets met with an elbow.
- They talk about Benoit's links to the Harts.
- Eaton with a swinging neckbreaker.
- Benoit with a waistlock, and Eaton tries to elbow out of it.
- Benoit ducks the elbow, and locks on the Crippler Crossface for the win!
- A really good match for WCW Saturday Night!
- Promo for Sting/Savage.
- Gene plugs his hotline.
- They talk about Savage's "attack."
- Tenay says that Savage suffered a severe concussion (wrong), separated shoulder (nope), and torn ACL (ding ding ding!).
- They show the footage from Nitro, along with footage from the Nash/Sting match.
- Match 3: WCW World Television Champion Booker T pinned Fit Finley after the Missile Dropkick
- Nobody's put the other half of Finley's shoulderpads in his Easter basket.
- He's going to get a shot at the TV belt.
- Booker T is a legitimate upper-card singles wrestler. His improvement has been dramatic.
- I'm not a big fan of the missile dropkick, though.
- The crowd is raising the roof.
- Finley fights out of a headlock, but gets shoulderblocked down.
- A side kick catches Finley.
- Finley backdrops Booker over the top rope.
- Finley runs Booker's back into the ring apron.
- Finley with clubbing blows in the corner.
- Finley mauls Booker on the apron.
- Hudson: "We have seen the demise of many tag teams recently." Duh?
- Tenay mentions that the Outsiders have been MIA. Hudson: "I don't even want to think about where Scott Hall is right now."
- Finley hits his rolling Samoan Drop for two.
- Booker walks into a boot in the corner, but recovers to hit a pancake on Finley.
- Booker with the Harlem Sidekick, followed by the Scissor Kick.
- Booker goes up top, and hits the Missile Dropkick for the win.
- This week in WCW Motorsports
- People probably ate things like "hog jaw" and "cornpone."
- Promo for the bat match.
- Why do I get a big sinking feeling in my gut that we're going to have a main event that sucks at Spring Stampede?
- Match 4: Jim Neidhart defeated Curt Hennig by disqualification when Brian Adams interfered
- Looks like we're going to have our main event now.
- Curt Hennig walks out alone, and we see footage from Nitro of Bret Hart kicking ass and taking names. Or something.
- Commercial.
- He'll be facing The Anvil.
- Oh Lord, take me now. This is going to hurt.
- Here's an idea: Jim Neidhart vs. Jim Duggan, and the first person to complete a coherent thought wins!
- Neidhart comes in with a slingshot shoulderblock, flooring Hennig.
- Neidhart's not letting Hennig in, but Hennig pulls him out.
- Hennig wraps Neidhart's knee around the ringpost, and gets back in the ring.
- More punishment to Neidhart's knee.
- It looks like Hennig is repeatedly kicking Neidhart in the nads, but I think he's actually kicking him in the knee.
- Neidhart fights back with shots to the gut, but Hennig takes his knee out.
- Stepover toehold from Hennig.
- Hennig uses the ropes for leverage.
- Neidhart Hulks out of Hennig chops, and starts working Hennig over in the corner.
- Hennig tries a spinning toehold, but Neidhart kicks him into the corner post.
- Neidhart turns Hennig over into a Boston crab.
- Brian Adams comes in and gives Neidhart an axehandle.
- The Bulldog runs in, and clears the ring.
- Gee, a screwjob in this feud? Say it ain't so! Has any match in this feud ended cleanly?
- And that's the end in this rain-shortened WCWSN! Four matches, can ya stand it?
