WCW Monday Nitro - Monday, 05/04/98
It's the real thing!
- Sorry I missed last week's report, I had to work on Monday b/c I was invited to a prom on May 2nd.
- The only time I wish I could be like Bret Hart.....
- Walk away from prom saying, "I got screwed!"
- The only good thing about Nitro being split up into 2 different time frames is that we can watch Nitro and RAW.
- Bill will be covering the last 2 hours (to be shown from 2-4am Tuesday morning) because if I were to tape it, I wouldn't even be able to view the tape until Sunday.
- I work Tuesday-Friday and I will be in Atlanta on Saturday for a Braves game.
- Random Question: Does anyone know if Sting played football at UCLA?
- If you missed the notice on the main page, go back there and make sure you vote for Ric Flair. If your service has dynamic IP addresses, dial in again and vote again!
- If there are any Hispanic people reading the report Charlie, Matt, and Amanda (who all love the Spanish language) wish to say......
- "Tienen a la feliz dia del Cinco De Mayo"
- For those of you who lack the bilingual skills that Charlie, Matt, Amanda, and Jericho have ;-) we were wishing them a happy Cinco De Mayo.
- May 5 is Mexico's Independence Day
- On to the show....
- Footage from last week's Nitro with Kevin Nash, Savage, and K-Dawg
- They had to show K-Dawg just one day before Cinco De Mayo
- Nitro is live/taped from Indianapolis, Indiana
- Tony is claiming that we will have 2 live hours before the playoffs
- Nitro Girls open the show, oh yeah
- Short black leather. Will we have another peek-a-boo?
- For some reason there was a loud ring of boos. The girls must have left the ring...
- Tony claims that Bryan Adams has joined Hogan's side in the nWo split.
- Footage of K-Dawg joining Nash's side
- I'm not joking: My dad just said, "Savage sounds like he is choking on sh*t"
- Eddie Guerrero w/Chavo Jr vs Scott Norton
- Chavo gives Eddie a rub down on the way to the ring.
- Chavo is also picking up Eddie's strut.
- Eddie does a typical heel speech before his match.
- Eddie is doing pushups as Norton makes his way to the ring
- Eddie fakes a knee injury at the start of the match and sends Chavo in for his weekly squash.
- Charles Robinson is the ref
- Norton reaches to the outside, grabs Eddie by the throat, and proceeds to pull him into the ring until Chavo interrupts.
- Norton wins with his patented Shoulderbreaker
- Ultimo Dragon comes to Chavo's aid
- I won't even comment on the Gheorghe Muresan commercial
- Scott Putski vs "Jerry Springer's Prime Guest" Kidman
- Putski's music sounds somewhat similar to the B-52's "Love Shack"
- Larry: "The kid's in great shape, let's see if he can outdo his father's footsteps"
- Mickey J is the ref
- Konnan, Savage, and Nash make their way through the stands with red/black nWo shirts. (One more thing for you to buy.) They invade the ring and Nash powerbombs Putski as Konnan throws Kidman out of the ring
- No decision
- Tenay: "What a debut for Putski"
- Nash speaks
- Gives a shout out to Scott Hall
- "Bischoff and Hogan have decided that my partner is too dangerous to have on live TV"
- Nash addresses his match at Slamboree (Hall/Nash vs Luger/Giant)
- Addresses the new colors: The Red and Black Attack
- Savage speaks:
- Addresses his match with Bret Hart at Slamboree
- Nash speaks again:
- The next member of Nash's side is Curt Hennig, although he is wearing black and white. Adams tries to stop Hennig, but Curt claims to know what he's doing. Nash refers to Adams as "Hogan's stooge". Hennig takes off his shirt to reveal the red and black nWo shirt.
- Konnan challenges Adams to a match.
- Nash addresses his match with Luger, calling out Sting to watch the match.
- Raven Promo
- Footage of Jericho's interview last week.
- The fry cook at Harry's Burgers.....
- WCW World Cruiserweight Champion Chris Jericho vs some jobber
- Interview time with the Dean Malenko picture again....
- His opponent is a guy dressed and acting like Dean Malenko.
- Who is this guy? He looks like "Squire" Dave Taylor's son. Probably another fruity Power Plant reject, fresh from his gig as a fake Sting.
- Nick Patrick is the ref
- Jericho has 1004 on his tights and the jobber has (1)
- While beating up the jobber, he pulls the jobber on top of himself for a two-count.
- In a funny spot, Jericho drapes himself over the ropes next to the jobber yelling "come on Bore-us"
- Jericho wins via Liontamer
- Sign: "Forget the SOB, give us Goldberg"
- Nitro Girls in silver pants and sequin tops while dancing on chairs. What I would give to be those chairs.....
- Alex Wright begins dancing near the end of the segment
- Footage of Hogan ragging on Savage and Nash. Did Easy E get a haircut? If so, it's about time.
- Hugh Morrus and Barbarian w/Jimmy Hart, table, and trashcan vs Public Enemy w/table and trash can
- After watching ECW's Wrestlepalooza last night, this match will be a joke.
- Barbarian takes a nasty trashcan to the head.
- Billy Silverman is the ref.
- Rocco Rock is dumped into the garbage can and Barbarian starts throwing it around
- How do you call this match?
- Barbarian sets Grunge on the table, climbs to the top rope, goes for an elbow, and Johnny Grunge moves.
- Hugh Morrus press slams Rocco Rock through a table.
- Jimmy Hart accidentally hits Morrus with the trashcan and Grunge pins Jimmy Hart for the win.
- Mean Gene interviews Bryan Adams
- Adams tells everyone to "go out and get a nice, warm cup of 'Shut the Hell Up'"
- Claims to be Hogan's main enforcer
- Man, Gene looks like Hitler
- Video clip of Benoit and Booker T's feud
- Benoit won the title this weekend, lost it to Booker T, won it again, and then lost it to Booker T again.
- Something tells me that the announcers will make no mention of this
- Booker T vs Chris Benoit at Slamboree
- Footage of Bret Hart's interview from last week
- I guess we will have 2 hours live tonight
- Saturn w/Kidman vs Hammer
- Nitro Girls shaking their money-makers
- Sick Boy w/Horace and Reese vs Juventud Guerrera
- Sick Boy has a bandage on his chest and his abdomen
- It may just be me, but Juvie seems to be getting more of a reaction without his mask.
- Mark "Shooter" Curtis is the ref
- Sick Boy has the early advantage
- Juvie starts his offensive arsenal with a few spin kicks
- Bad move by WCW to use a Coke vendor with actual Cokes in the tray. The wrestlers are slipping on the wet canvas.
- Amazing that Juvie can apply the Juvie Driver to Sick Boy. Horace shoves Juvie off the top rope and they begin to tear Juvie apart.
- GOLDBERG comes to Juvie's aid. Spear on Sick Boy and Jack Hammer on Reese. It takes Goldberg and Reese slightly less than a minute to actually get in position for the move.
- Mean Gene interviews Rick Steiner
- Oh boy, a man with less than acceptable interview skills.
- Gene starts out by asking Rick if he went to Michigan or Michigan State. Don't you think that is the type of thing he should already know?
- That is one thick goatee.
- Rick wants Scott to come out and make a decision, Rick or the nWo
- Scott hobbles out on crutches
- Scott claims that he wants to be a Steiner Brother again.
- Scott hugs Rick, turns Rick's back to the entrance, and Adams nails Rick with the bat.
- Scott encourages the repeated shots by Adams, saying "Hit him again! He hurt Bagwell!!"
- Brian Adams vs Konnan
- Nitro Girls wearing the silver stuff.
- Nitro Party in a church?
- Dave "Fit" Finley vs WCW World Television Champion Booker T
- I thought of Booker T this weekend at prom when everyone started raising the roof.
- Stiff kick in the back by Finley
- Charles Robinson is the ref
- Random Schiavone Point: Next week, Nitro will return to it's regular schedule
- The crowd was dead until Booker T threw Finley over the top rope.
- Booker T's "Huh?" is starting to get annoying.
- Booker T with a stiff axe kick, and then the sidewalk slam
- Benoit approaches the ring as Booker T starts to finish off finley
- Finley takes advantage of Booker T's distraction, gives him a tombstone, pins Booker T, and wins the TV Title.
- Replay of the tombstone, it looked really close to another tragic botched move.
- Yep, no mention of the TV title changes during the previous week.
- Michael Buffer will announce the second hour's main event.
- Kevin Nash w/Savage and Konnan vs Lex Luger
- Kevin is announced as being from Scottsdale, Arizona
- Uh, Kev, that goatee is starting to fade to gray
- The Master of the Torture Rack of Doom?
- Scott Dickinson is the ref
- I'm sure Nash would love to give Lex some payback for injuring his friend Syxx, ultimately being fired due to the injury.
- Lex and Booker T should have an "Uh" match
- Kevin is dominating this match
- Luger kicks himself out of the corner and misses a clothesline by a mile.
- The whole Wolfpac invades the ring to tear Luger apart.
- Nash sets Luger up for a powerbomb until Sting and the Giant step in the ring.
- Adams starts to rush the ring and Hart stops him. They just grin at the matter and Hart calls it "beautiful".
- Typical nWo DQ finish
- It seems that that's it. Bill will record on the VCR from midnight to 6:00 a.m. tonight, but it looks like these past two hours is all we'll get this week. No Thunder this week, by the way.
