WCW Saturday Night - Saturday, 05/09/98
By Doug C.
A local network shows a (sometimes) edited version of WCWSN the following week on Saturday morning. The station is out of London, Ontario and the show is aired at 9:00 a.m. The New VR (out of Barrie) also shows this broadcast at 4:00 p.m. This week, they showed the edition that was apparently not aired due to a car race on TBS (I don't get that station, so couldn't verify it). Here is the report from the show.
- Match 1: Goldberg vs. Hammer
- Sign: My Mom likes Goldberg
- Hammer starts with a kick and a forearm
- Goldberg ducks a clothesline and spears Hammer
- Jackhammer
- Total time: about 40 seconds
- My maximum Goldberg tolerance level is one minute, so kudos for keeping this short
- Goldberg is 80-0 at this point
- Raven promo
- Thunder: Looking back - Booker T vs. Disco Inferno
- Nitro Recap: Finley becomes the champion
- Match 2: Wayne Bloom vs. Yuji Nagata (w/ Sonny Onoo)
- Bloom attacks before the bell, and stomps a mudhole in Nagata
- Yuji lands a kick, but gets clotheslined
- Bloom attacks Nagata outside the ring
- Onoo kicks at Bloom to distract him, and Nagata attacks him from behind
- Nagata goes to work on Bloom's leg
- Bloom regains control after Yuji misses a knee in the corner
- A couple near falls for Wayne with suplexes
- Onoo appears on the apron, and Nagata gives him a pair of dragon screw leg whips
- From there, he hooks in the Nagatalock.
- Tenay & Hudson discuss the Wolfpack situation, followed by footage of the Adams/Konnan match, then Luger vs. Nash.
- More Raven rambling.
- Match 3: High Voltage vs. Public Enemy (w/ table)
- Tenay mentions that Harlem Heat is no more. I guess that is it for Stevie Ray.
- Blonde Voltage Guy drives a knee into Rocco
- I don't care enough about Voltage to differentiate which is Kaos and which is Rage
- Blonde goes for a spinning backbreaker, which Rocco escapes with a lucha-esque armdrag
- Sign: VENTURA FOR GOVERNOR
- Rocco continues to work on the arm, and tags in Grunge
- A kneelift allows Blonde to escape an armbar, tag to Dark Hair Voltage Guy
- More knees, and Dark Hair tries a hiptoss, which Grunge blocks
- Irish whip
- Blonde gets in a cheap shot, and Dark Hair gives Grunge a belly-to-belly
- Two-count there
- Dark hair drops his head early, and Johnny gets in a swinging neckbreaker
- Rocko comes in, but runs into Blonde's elbow, and is rolled up for two
- Blonde comes in, and is successful with a tilt-a-whirl slam this time
- Rocco becomes the face-in-peril at this point with Voltage using generic enough offense
- Tenay claims the matches with Morrus & Barbarian were physical. That must be a polite way to say "not very good".
- All four men start to go at it
- Grunge is thrown to the floor, and Rocco is double suplexed, but Grunge returns to stop that, allowing Rock to give Voltage a double DDT
- Dark Hair is tossed outside, and Blonde is nailed with the Drive By
- Praise (insert your favourite supreme being) that is over
- Thunder: Looking back - Hogan inspires me to change the channel
- Here comes the Paragon of Virtue!
- Chris says that everybody knows that Springfield is his favourite town, and everybody came to see the Ayatollah of Rock'n'rolla
- He then recaps his list of conquests, then says noboby in the dressing room has the courage to face him
- Cue the music
- Match 4: Chris Jericho (w/ souvenirs) vs. Juventud Guerrera
- Jericho charges, but Juventud hammers him down in the corner
- Juvy leaps off the top with a FrankenGuerrera
- Chavo and his favourite wrestler come to ringside
- Guerrera snap mares Jericho, and applies a sleeper
- Chris punches out of that, and Ultimo Dragon is now at ringside
- Kidman & Marty are next out at ringside, while Juvy fights back with a spinning heel kick
- Silver King, Psychosis, Johnny Swinger & Barry Horowitz are the next to appear, and they throw Jericho back in the ring whenever he tries to escape
- Jericho stun guns Juventud, while Lenny Lane & Evan Kourageous join the throngs
- Jericho goes over to yell at Lenny, likely about his missing Loverboy tape
- Vertical suplex, and Jericho gives a standing cover and gets two
- Jericho tries a press slam, but Juventud goes behind to escape
- Juvy rolls through a belly-to-back, and comes back with a rana into a roll-up for two
- Knife-edge chops (WHOO!)
- Jericho tries to leap out of the way in the corner, but is caught and nailed with the Juvy Driver
- Guerrera climbs the ropes and tries the 450 splash, but Eddy pushes him in the process of doing that, and that brings on the DQ
- All the cruisers start going at it, save for our role model, who escapes
