Ban the Steiner Bulldog!
- Hard to believe, but Cubs Fan forgot to watch Worldwide. I would think he spends his entire week
dreading looking forward to it. So, I set the VCR for 1:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, and got to watch Worldwide for the first time ever.
- Interestingly enough, Syxx is still in the first clip of the opening credits.
- Larry Z. and Tony S. do the announcing honors.
- "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan vs. Fidel Sierra
- Fidel yells into the camera in Spanish on the way to the ring.
- Wow, an opponent that actually gives Duggan a legitimate reason to chant "USA".
- Tony to Larry: "You don't like Hacksaw Duggan, do you?"
- Fidel tries to take the early advantage, but Hacksaw comes back. Hoooo!!!
- Fidel tries a nerve hold. Duggan no-sells and comes back. Ten punches on the top turnbuckle.
- Three-point stance, Old Glory, and Hacksaw gets the pinfall.
- A local segment with Lee Marshall advertising tickets for the June 1st Nitro at the MCI Center in Washington, DC. Surprisingly, the show is not yet sold out. Marshall interviews Dillon about reconfiguring seats. I cannot imagine an interview about anything less interesting.
- Both Steiners are in the arena tonight.
- Promo for Slamboree.
- "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner with Vincent and one weightlifting trophy vs. Jim Powers.
- Replay of Okerlund admitting he should get out of the business, followed by the replay of Bret Hart not getting the opportunity to explain "Why, Bret, why?"
- Lee Marshall says you better get your tickets for the June 1st Nitro right away, because the last WCW event at the MCI Center sold out. Well, duh!!! It was Starrcade! Of course it sold out!
- Prince MakyMaky vs. El Dandy and his feared right hand.
- This week in WCW Motorsports. I fast-forwarded.
- Money must be tight for Esther Rolle. This is the second commercial I've seen on Worldwide for her psychic hotline.
- Another Slamboree promo.
- Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart vs. Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker
- "Yeah, baby!!!"
- Buddy attempts to get the advantage before the bell.
- Anvil "picks Parker up by his hair". Geez, I normally try to suspend my disbelief, but Parker's got a crewcut!
- In a really weird ending, Anvil pins Parker following a vertical suplex where he drops Parker down sideways. Odd. May have been a blown spot. Of course, Schiavone notes that it was a "textbook vertical suplex".
- Another promo for the June 1st Nitro.
- Another promo for the June 1st Nitro.
- Lee Marshall interviews Eddie of the legendary Guerrero family. Eddie talks smack about Chavo.
- Next week on Worldwide: Konnan, John Nord, Marty Jannetty, Lex Luger.
- "The Dog-Faced Gremlin" Rick Steiner w/Ted DiBiase vs. Curt Hennig w/o Rick Rude.
- Hennig stalls at the beginning of the match, refusing to get in the ring.
- Zbyszko wonders if Rick Steiner ever found his other white boot.
- Hennig with the early advantage with some closed fists.
- Steiner with a hip toss.
- I wonder if they got those lit up maps of the world on the wall at a sale of the props from the movie War Games. I'm serious.
- Rick with some bites.
- Hennig with his running flip-over snapmare.
- Hennig goes to work on the neck.
- Steiner comes back with a few punches to the gut and he scores a big suplex.
- Rick hits the Steiner Bulldog.
- So, they ban the jackknife powerbomb, but not this. That makes sense.
- BPP runs out and pulls Hennig out of the ring on the pin attempt.
- Rick Steiner wins via disqualification due to BPP's interference.
- See you on Thursday for Thunder!
