WCW Thursday Thunder - 05/21/98
- The show opens with a replay of the Giant offering Sting an nWo T-shirt from Thunder last week and the Giant attacking Sting at the end of Nitro.
- We are live from the CSU Convocation Center in Cleveland, OH.
- The pyro crew shows off some new fireworks that are nearly blinding.
- Tony's in the ring, so it's interview time.
- The Giant enters.
- He points at a sign: "The Giant is a Big Fat Goofy Backstabber"
- Giant puts both belts on Tony.
- Giant says he told Sting that he's sorry, and the tag team champs are getting along again.
- Giant says Sting won't be here tonight as he is caught in the weather
- Giant says Sting is nWo.
- Lex comes out, smiling and waving "hi" to the Big Fat Goofy Backstabber.
- Doug Dillinger comes out to make sure things are okay.
- Lex says Sting is not nWo
- Evan Kourageous and Ciclope are at the ring apron, watching the proceedings.
- Lex challenges Giant to a match here tonight.
- Giant offers nWo membership to Lex.
- Lex Luger looks to the crowd for their opinion.
- Lex spits in Giant's face and walks off.
- Super Calo, Silver King, Kourageous, Ciclope, El Dandy, and Villano IV attack the Giant
- El Dandy gets powerbombed and Villano IV gets powerslamed, and the rest are thrown out.
- Giant grabs the mic and starts yelling at Lex that he's ready.
- The usual team, Tony, Bobby, and Lee, are our announcers tonight.
- Yugi Nagata (w/ Sonny Onoo) vs. Ernest "The Cat" Miller
- "Boring" chant can be heard before the match starts.
- Lots of martial arts action early on.
- Miller gets choked by Onoo.
- Yugi throws Miller outside the ring.
- Onoo kicks the Cat while the ref is distracted.
- Miller powerslams Yugi. It's good to see him use wrestling moves, at least.
- Miller limps around on his knee.
- Miller manages to pin Nagata after the Feliner.
- The Cat actually manages to get a small pop from the Cleveland crowd.
- They replay Malenko's speech and Jericho's tantrum after Slamboree.
- Chris Jericho vs. Super Calo
- Jericho comes out with a sign that reads: "Conspiracy Victim."
- Jericho grabs the mic and apologizes for the footage we just saw.
- Jericho says there is a conspiracy against him like the 1918 White Sox, the Roswell incident, and the JFK assassination.
- Jericho calls for J. J. Dillion, who he refers to as Double J at one point.
- Jericho says Malenko wasn't on the battle royal roster.
- Jericho says the battle royal was fixed and demands that his title be reinstated.
- Super Calo comes out for the match.
- "Jericho sucks" chant
- Super Calo controls for most of the brief match.
- Super Calo misses a moonsault.
- Jericho applies the Liontamer for the pin.
- Alex Wright dances and promotes the movie coming up after Thunder.
- The entire Raven/Mortis angle is replayed, including all the fan attacks.
- Raven interview time
- Raven comes out with the riot guards.
- Raven talks about his problems with Saturn.
- Saturn comes out. He says he and Raven are friends, and should act as such.
- Raven apologizes, then calls out Mortis.
- Some guy, looking a bit like a big version of Syxx, enters.
- The riot guards attack the guy.
- Another guy dressed in a blond wig comes out and nails Raven.
- His wig falls off and the announcers believe he is Mortis.
- The Flock enters to help, but Mortis has fled.
- The crowd looks a little confused, but there's still a "Raven sucks" chant.
- WCW TV Champ Fit Finley vs. Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart
- Jim throws Finley down after grappling. "Yeah baby."
- Neidhart controls most of the match.
- Shoulder tackle from the ring apron by Neidhart.
- Powerslam and pin by Neidhart, but Finley's legs are in the ropes.
- Finley takes over and gets the win with the Tombstone Piledriver.
- Schiavone announces that Booker T is the number one contender for the TV title.
- He calls him out, but Benoit comes out.
- Benoit wants to know why he's not the number one contender.
- Booker, dressed in shirt and tie, comes out and asks for his interview time.
- Benoit gives it to him, but nails him from behind.
- Stevie Ray comes out and tells Booker T to get up.
- He tells Booker T to be a man and not let himself get jumped.
- Wow, Stevie Ray was gone for a long time.
- They replay Hogan introducing the newest member of the family, Scott Hall.
- Brian Adams (w/ Vincent) vs. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan
- You have to admit, Hacksaw gets a great pop wherever he goes.
- Hacksaw controls early, throwing Adams outside.
- After Vincent interference, Adams takes over.
- Backbreaker and pin attempt by Adams, but he gets only two.
- Adams pulls Duggan's hair, so the ref responds by pulling his hair.
- Adams slams the ref.
- Vincent holds Duggan, but Hacksaw slips away and Adams nails Vincent.
- Hacksaw gives Adams a clothesline.
- Adams grabs the 2 X 4 and nails the ref.
- Hacksaw takes the 2 X 4 and cleans house, much to the delight of the crowd.
- Duggan is your winner by DQ.
- WCW Motorsports update.
- The Undertaker comes out! No wait, that's the Knight promoting the "Quest for Camelot" cartoon, handing out T-shirts.
- Hammer vs. Saturn
- Hammer yells a few words at the camera about Reese.
- Saturn comes out to a decent pop.
- Criticizing Glacier can make you an instant face
- Tenay lets us know that Nitro will be at its regular time next week.
- Flock shot. Reese yells, "Come get some, punk!"
- Saturn dominates with a variety of suplexes and kicks.
- Hammer takes over with a powerslam and shoulder tackle.
- Hammer with an inverted suplex and sidewalk slam.
- Reese on the apron distracts Hammer.
- Raven sneaks up and gives Hammer the Evenflow.
- Saturn tells Raven he didn't need his help
- Saturn gives Hammer the Spicolli Driver and gets the win.
- Saturn and Raven stare each other after the match.
- Hugh Morrus and Jimmy Hart do a promo for the movie after Thunder.
- Rick Rude enters
- Rick is in old form, calling the crowd "fat, out-of-shape, Ohio idiots"
- Rick calls out Hennig, who he says in the next U.S. Champ.
- The announcers note that the current champ is Goldberg, and begin hyping the possible match.
- Rick says he's loyal to Hennig and he's doesn't care about the separate nWo factions.
- Curt Hennig calls Goldberg "the biggest mark I've ever seen in my life."
- Hennig challenges Goldberg to a match at the Great American Bash.
- Rude says that Goldberg should know "united we stand, secluded we fall"
- Juventud Guerrera vs. Horace (w/ Lodi)
- Horace doesn't even get an entrance, like {Pro} jobbers.
- Horace controls early.
- Lodi's sign reads: "Raven Made Seinfeld Quit."
- Juvy throws Horace out and tackles him onto the mat.
- Lodi turns around his sign, which now says: "Fat Fingers The Magician."
- Horace takes over with a series of kicks that would make Uncle Hogan proud.
- Juvy throws Horace out.
- Reese enters the ring and slams Juvy to the mat.
- Horace finishes Juvy off with a lariat.
- As Tony, Bobby, and Lee are doing their usual chat in front of the camera, some stuff (I'm guessing soda) flies right down in front in Tony. He laughs about it.
- Randy Savage (w/ Liz) interview time
- Liz is wearing a red and black outfit.
- Savage talks about the PPV's tag main event.
- Savage says he and Piper hate each other, but they hate Hogan and Hart more.
- Savage wants a stronger apology from Piper.
- After the tag match, Savage says he will want a piece of Piper.
- Savage says he doesn't know what the word "icon" means, but he knows what "madness" is.
- Eddie Guerrero segment
- Chavo and his grandmother are shown.
- Mrs. Guerrero speaks in Spanish, and Chavo is ready to translate.
- Eddie arrives and translates, saying Mrs. Guerrero wants Chavo to start winning.
- WCW Cruiserweight Champ Dean Malenko vs. Chavo Guerrero (w/Eddie Guerrero)
- Eddie grabs the mic and does the usual routine.
- Chavo grabs the mic and says he's ready. He manages to start an "Eddie" chant.
- Dean enters and the match begins.
- Chavo starts aggressively and controls.
- Chavo gets a two-count, but Eddie helps Malenko gets out of the pin.
- Malenko takes over with a vertical suplex.
- Malenko reverses the Tornado DDT into the Texas Cloverleaf for the win.
- Eddie turns away from the action.
- Eddie starts scolding Chavo, but Chavo threatens to hit him.
- Chavo kisses Eddie instead.
- But then Chavo nails Eddie!
- Then Chavo tosses the towel at Eddie and walks away.
- It's 10:04 when we return from the break so we're going into overtime.
- Giant vs. Lex Luger
- Giant comes out carrying the two belts.
- Luger controls until the Giant nails him with a big boot to the face.
- The Giant slings Luger around a bit.
- Russian Leg Sweep by the Giant, followed by a backbreaker.
- A fan rushes to the ring, but security gets to him.
- Everyone stops watching the action and watches the fan get hauled away.
- Luger nails Giant with some forearms, but the Giant no-sells.
- A man dressed as Sting with an nWo T-shirt enters and attacks Luger, DQing the Giant.
- Luger knocks the fake Sting out of the ring with a clothesline.
- The Giant chokeslams Luger and drapes an nWo T-shirt over him.
- The fake Sting yells "get out of my face" to the camera and sticks out his tongue.
- Fade to black.
