WCW {Pro} - Sunday, 07/05/1998
- Greetings, DDT Digest readers! I'm Aldo D., your new WCW {Pro} reporter! I'll be your host on this one-hour extravaganza of recaps and squash matches!
- For those who are wondering where Jesse G. went, don't worry! You'll be able to catch his work for the WCW Saturday Night show.
- Now, on to the {Pro}...
- The {Pro} begins with a shot of the Hogan/Rodman/DDP/Malone press conference.
- We go to the studio with Scott Hudson and Larry Zbyszko who immediately hype next Sunday's Bash At The Beach.
- We go to a clip of Planet Hollywood for the press conference.
- I wonder if there will be a non-gimmick main event involving a World Heavyweight Title Defense at an upcoming pay-per-view.
- Hudson and Zbyszko talk about the main event at BATB some more.
- Interview time with Lee Marshall who ALSO hypes BATB. He then brings in "The Living Loophole," Chris Jericho.
- Jericho hypes the PPV asking if there will be people who can actually wrestle. He reads my mind well.
- Jericho doesn't care who he faces, but says the conspiracy is on. He will win and keep his belt, which is being shined as we speak.
- Lee says Chris is running.
- Jericho agrees and says he's been running on the beach and getting in shape in preparation for his match at BATB.
- Just added for BATB -- Raven vs. Saturn
- {Pro} Exclusive #1 -- Renegade defeats Tim Cheeks after a backbreaker in 2:46.
- Mike Tenay and Lee Marshall actually say Renegade held the TV Title and defeated the likes of Arn Anderson.
- I guess that's better than losing a title match to Randy Mulkey.
- Tim Cheeks gets no intro.
- Renegade plays the face in this matchup. Me thinks the WCW booking committee forgot about that incident with "Desperado" Joe Gomez a while back.
- Renegade starts off with a kick to the gut, a punch, and introduces Cheeks' head to the turnbuckle.
- More kicks by the Renegade followed by a hot-shot on the ropes.
- Renegade then goes onto the apron and jerks Cheeks' head on the ropes.
- Your referee for this match is ex-wrestler Rocky King.
- Cheeks gets thrown to a turnbuckle, but backflips off the second rung and throws Renegade to the mat.
- Dropkick by Cheeks and a pin attempt. Renegade kicks out.
- Renegade with a pumphandle into a backbreaker submission.
- Cheeks is whipped into the rope and comes back with a form of a hurracarana.
- Cheeks lands a hangman's noose neckbreaker but goes up top, neglecting to make a pin attempt.
- Renegade sees this coming and throws Cheeks down from the top turnbuckle.
- Renegade with a running lariat.
- Renegade throws Cheeks into the turnbuckle and as Cheeks heads back, he is hit with a backbreaker.
- Renegade gets the pin as he shakes his head up and down like a certain Warrior.
- Fello Baldamaniac Gene Okerlund with the "Starburst On The Road Report" hyping the upcoming Atlanta Nitro.
- A local commercial advertising a place in Orlando called Skull Kingdom using guys dressed in cheesy undead characters.
- The first of many promos for BATB.
- Clip is shown of Kevin Greene getting punked by the Giant and nWo-Hollywood. The announcers discuss Greene's relationship with Goldberg.
- Clip from the Kevin Greene/Giant match on Nitro in Jacksonville, FL two Mondays ago.
- If you ask me, Kevin Greene's wrestling repetoire makes Lodi look like Dean Malenko.
- Another promo for BATB.
- Hudson and Zbyszko talk about the Stevie Ray/Chris Benoit feud.
- This week in WCW Motorsports.
- Neither the Sting nor the Hollywood Hogan monster trucks won. Darn.
- Lee Marshall interviews Disco Inferno.
- Disco walks in as Lee talks about the upcoming PPV.
- Disco complains that his music isn't being played as he walks in to talk to Lee.
- Disco says that football players, basketball players, gymnasts, and X-Games athletes will be at BATB.
- Lee finally cuts Disco off and ends this pointless segment.
- They talk more about the tag team of Goldberg and Kevin Greene.
- From WCW Saturday Night -- Barbarian and Hugh Morrus vs. The British Bulldog and Jim Neidhart.
- During this match, the announcers talk about the "big surprise" DDP has in store for Hogan in Tampa. It's a shame they cannot keep this show current.
- Another promo for BATB. I told you there were quite a few. :)
- An ad for 1-800-WE-ARE-18, an adult chat line.
- What is the point of calling these things? How do you know that the girl you are talking to is the beautiful blonde portrayed and not some 300 pound, unshaven trailor trash?
- Yet ANOTHER promo for BATB.
- They talk about the split between Raven and Saturn.
- {Pro} Exclusive #2 -- Horace (W/ Flock) defeats Fidel Sierra after a full-nelson slam in 2:40.
- Horace gets theme music this week, while Sierra gets neither music nor an introduction.
- Tenay and Marshall talk about Saturn's absence from the Flock.
- Horace starts this bout with a clubberin' into the turnbuckle.
- Horace whips Sierra into the other turnbuckle and follows with a forearm shot.
- Horace does the same thing again, this time following with a splash.
- Horace with a wrestling move, a headlock. His Uncle Hollywood taught him so well.
- Horace whips Sierra into the ropes and gets him in a fireman's carry into a slam.
- Another Irish Whip followed by a big boot. This sends Sierra outside and Horace continues his offense.
- As both combatants re-enter the ring, Sierra drops Horace's face onto the ropes.
- Sierra lands some more offense in the form of punches.
- Sierra with a headbutt, but Horace fights back.
- Horace with a vertical suplex.
- Attempted pin by Horace, but only a two-count.
- Sierra is backed into a corner, but gets an eye rake and lands more punches.
- Horace reverses a throw into the corner and follows with a kick.
- Horace gets a full-nelson slam on Sierra and scores the pin!
- Two unbelievably bad matches on the {Pro}!
- Scott Hudson and Larry Zbyszko make one final pitch for BATB before they sign off.
- And that wraps up this edition of the {Pro}! If you have any questions or comments that you'd like to address to me, I'd certainly enjoy reading them. Please send all email to aldod2112@hotmail.com. Thanks for reading and have a happy (and safe) Independence Day weekend!
