WCW Worldwide - Saturday, 7/4/98
- Okay, it's 10pm on Sunday and I'm just now getting to
this. So, I hope you all won't mind if I do this real
quick this week, okay? Independence Weekend has been a
long one...
- One little piece of mail before I hit the results...you
may want to skip everything in blue if you don't want me to spoil
possible upcoming endings...Josh Lewis, who has gone to
every single Worldwide taping since when they were back
at MGM, sent me in a report on some of the highlights of
the tapings.
- Like you've heard elsewhere, Scott Hall was
there, but he didn't wrestle
- Chris Jericho was in action three times. Two
squashes and a loss...to Dean Malenko!
- In another match that make no sense being on
Worldwide, Saturn got a victory over Raven in a
"Grudge Match"
- Eddie and Chavo both wrestled, but no interference
either way
- Rey Mysterio returned to the ring...and promptly
lost to Ultimo Dragon?!?
- The WCW Pit Crew Team debuted, featuring Dale
Thornberg and Chad Fortune. Josh said they looked
good, especially considering they came from the
Power Plant.
- And, the biggest news...Chris Benoit wrestled
some tag team matches...
- with Dean Malenko. Hmm...
- I got $5 on
Benoit/McMichael/Malenko/Booker with AA
as manager for the New Four Horsemen
- The last match ever taped? A Reese squash. Ugh.
- Marty Jannetty over Vincent by Showstopper (I was afraid
for a while)
- Lenny Lane over Spike Moore by bulldog (I'm sure that has
a name, I just don't care)
- Bobby Blaze over Tokyo Magnum by Northern Lights Suplex
(Thinking about it now, did the show really need a recap?
Did you really want to know?)
- High Voltage over Villanos IV & V by Circuit Breaker
(This was the best match of the show. Scary.)
- Goldberg over John Nord by the usual.
- Yep, shows like that make feel like I've lost a hour of
my life I'll never get back. :) Next week, I assume we
continue to scrap the bottom of the old taping barrel, as
Fit Finley, Public Enemy, Ernest Miller, and Glacier are
all threatened to show up.
