WCW {Pro} - Sunday, 08/23/1998
- It's the moment you all have been waiting for -- a Road Wild recap! Woo hoo! But first, some mail.
- Troy Kimble writes in with some news about a former wrestler who seems to be "missing in action...."
- Kamala lives in Sanatobia, Mississippi. He is now a truck driver. A very rude one at that.
- He's probably still bitter about the desertion of Kim Chee.
- DDT Digest's own Wade was
gracious enough to supply some of his own commentary.
- I think any fan who refers to Konnan as "K-Dog" should automatically forfeit their right to participate in the Gene Pool.
- Gene Pool? Egad, would a Gene Pool go along the lines of something like this?
- "You're a bona-fide loser!"
- "No, you are, chrome-dome!"
- "You watch your mouth, I'm Mean Gene, you can't talk to me that way!"
- "You imposter, I'm Mean Gene! Don't listen to this phony, I know about
his reputation! And while we're on the subject, hotline fans, if you call
my 1-900 number you can get full detailed results of this OOOOF!"
- (A huge brawl erupts at this point.)
We begin this edition of the {Pro} with Eric Bischoff running his mouth on Nitro.
The announcing team talks about Road Wild. Hey, I warned you.
Stills of the entire Road Wild PPV event are shown.
- What, after a couple of weeks we cannot get video? Pa-thetic.
- I assume that WCW is so pressed for talent these days that Hacksaw Duggan has to make a run-in appearance, as well.
They talk about Eric Bischoff editing above stills the next night on Monday Nitro.
"Just announced for Fall Brawl": Rick Steiner vs. Scott Steiner.
Lee Marshall interviews three members of Raven's Flock: Kidman, Lodi, and Riggs.
- The basis of this interview was to ask the aforementioned Flockers whom they wanted to win at Fall Brawl -- Raven or Saturn.
- After being asked, Lodi throws his support for Raven and is then called a stooge by Lee Marshall. Hey, Lee. It takes one to know one, right?
- Lee tells Kidman that he could be the future world cruiserweight champion.
- Kidman agrees and then does like his pal Lodi and sucks up to Raven.
- Riggs claims to know Raven personally for five years, but offers his support to Saturn. Just kidding. I wanted to see if you were paying attention. :)
- Lee then says he doesn't get these guys. I don't get this interview. Was there a damn point?
Scott Hudson says it's no secret that Stevie Ray "kidnapped the TV Title" from Booker T. Hey, he got one right! He does this again, and we'll have a streak on our hands.
From Nitro (08/10/1998): Stevie Ray vs. The Paragon of Virtue for the World TV Title.
- With all the talk about WCW mishandling its younger talent, it's refreshing to see the promotion's faith in Chris Jericho by giving him the TV Title after having him job the Cruiserweight belt.
Starburst Road Report: Monday Nitro in Chicago, IL.
Promo for Fall Brawl.
Hudson says Lucha Libre is hotter than ever in WCW. Well, Hudson is one for two. Nevertheless, this leads us into...
From Worldwide (08/15/1998): Ron Misterio, Jr. vs. Psychosis.
They talk about the new Cruiserweight champion, Juventud Guerrera, being in Ron's crosshairs.
They talk about Dean Malenko trying to reform The Four Horsemen.
From WCWSN (08/15/1998): Curt Hennig (w/ Rick Rude) vs. Dean Malenko
- If WCW is so hell-bent on reforming The Four Horsemen, having Malenko getting his rear handed to him twice by Hennig and Rude within a one-week stretch is not the way to get it done.
- Scott Hudson (After Rude's interference): "That's a disqualification!" Two for three. :)
- After the punking, Hennig does a funny Karate Kid Crane pose on Malenko.
Lee interviews Horace.
- Lee calls Horace the most loyal Flock member.
- Horace says that he is there to protect Raven by putting the stop sign on anyone, including Perry Saturn.
- Horace claims that Raven and himself have patched up any differences.
- Lodi interrupts this segment and drags Horace off, claiming Raven needs him. Right. I'm betting more along the lines of Uncle Hogan needing his head shined again.
They show clips of Lex Luger winning the U.S. Title from Bret Hart on Monday Nitro.
From Thunder (08/13/1998): Bret Hart takes back the title from Lex Luger.
- You've probably heard this from other people on the 'net, but it's my turn to say it -- Luger is a puppet. From turning face in the WWF just to promote a bus tour to his last two major title reigns lasting less than two weeks combined, Lex Luger is nothing more than a tool for WCW.
- *** WCW Mislogic Warning! *** While a typical heel wrestler gets disqualified for bringing a chair into the ring, Luger doesn't when he attempts to wield one on Hart in full view of the referee.
This week in WCW Motorsports segment. I'll give you three guesses as to who won the Winston Cup race. However, the first two won't count. :)
They show clips of Meng giving Doug Dillinger the Tongan Death Grip.
- Damn. They cut the video right before Hacksaw gets one.
From Nitro (08/10/1998): Goldberg vs. Meng, Lumberjack Style.
- Anyone else wondering what Meng did to get a World Title shot?
- During Michael Buffer's introduction, it is announced that Goldberg has a cult following like no other. I suppose he's never heard of a little fellow who goes by Stone Cold Steve Austin.
- Man, I've had sneeze attacks that have lasted longer than this match.
To close the {Pro} for this week, the announcers mention that Goldberg is being targeted by both factions of the nWo.
That's all for this week! Comments? Compliments? Criticisms? Pyramid Scheme Offers? (Scratch that last one.) Send 'em to aldod2112@hotmail.com. See you soon!
