WCW Worldwide - Saturday, 9/5/98
- You know...they're not really chanting Gooooldberg. It's really Sooooooosa :)
- He will catch Mac...He will catch Mac...He will catch Mac...
- Some quick random notes for you...
- WCW's website can now be also found at http://www.wcw.com... same stuff, though.
- the nWo's site (still http://www.nwowrestling.com) has been updated this week, for the first time since March 30th. They've split the site into Wolfpac/Hollywood factions, with each having its own Real Audio message. But even with the newest Real Audio player and all the codecs, I can't get either of them to work...if some can, could you pass on how?
- Bret Hart's (or whoever it really is) column still maintains that he's not part of nWo Hollywood, but does continue to push the break between him and Hogan... If you're interested, go to http://www.canoe.ca/SlamWrestling/hitman_home.html
- Finally, last week, ECW in Chicago moved to Thursday nights...I got mail about it so I thought I'd inform people (for once). I wish I remembered that myself this week...
- Well, I wrote these notes down early today, but for some reason, I feel the need to type this at 1:30 a.m. Whatever...
- Glacier vs Mike Nova
- They show a close up of the snow machine as Glacier is getting ready for the match...you mean it's not real?
- Glacier starts off the match with some kicks and punches...headlock, and he takes Nova to the mat.
- Glacier runs off the ropes, misses a swinging punch and gets nailed by a Nova thrust kick.
- Glacier gets back to his feet and starts doing that kicking thing again...armbar.
- Nova gets out of it with another good thrust kick...maybe after the match, Nova can show Glacier how to do one right...2 count by Nova
- Glacier to his feet first, kicks Nova into the corner, poses, kicks Nova in the midsection
- Glacier whips Nova...chops him hard to the mat...2 count. Glacier complains and covers again...2 count.
- Glacier stomps Nova into the mat.
- Glacier throws Nova into the corner, gets in some kicks...whip to opposite corner...
- Glacier misses whatever the heck he was going for and gets a double axehandle from Nova.
- Nova whips Glacier, Glacier misses a kick and Nova chops him to the ground.
- Glacier getting to his feet...Nova thrust kick misses...Glacier's thrust kick hits!
- Oh my God, he actually hit it! Either that, or they did some good camera work, but it was close enough! 1, 2, 3, Glacier is your winner
- Hey...October 12th, Nitro's back again! Tickets go on sale this Friday (probably around noon, but don't quote me on that.
- Lee Marshall is talking to Mike Tenay here, but I'm too busy thinking, "If I got to Dominick's at noon and buy the tickets, will I get back in time for my 12:30 religon class? And do I really care if I miss that class?"
- War Games - "One man left standing"...what, is this elimination now? No way!
- Mike Tolbert vs Kendall Windham
- While Mr. Tolbert comes out, Tony comments on his graduation from the Power Plant. Larry says that going to the Power Plant will make you in shape.
- I could say something, but I'll make this interactive and leave it to you to find the joke.
- Windham starts off the match by pushing Tolbert to the corner...punches, hiptoss out of the corner
- Windham dropkicks Tolbert hard, and then drops a knee on him, before going into the Chinlock O' Doom!
- Tolbert takes two elbows to escape...bounces off the ropes, hiptosses Windham and hits a high dropkick.
- Windham escapes to the outside. Tolbert follows and gets punched and brought back in.
- Windham with some kicks to the midsection and
some mare punches...
- Windham whips Tolbert, kneelift and chokes him on the ropes.
- Windham locks up with Tolbert, only to get rolled up for a 2 count.
- Windham gets some punches in, whips Tolbert in to the ropes and elbows him to the mat.
- More stuff goes on, but I must transcript this line from Tony: "This is why this program is so important, you give young men like Tolbert a chance to face experinced men like Windham to get better. It's the foundation of this sport."
- Yea, could you imgine a world with out Worldwide? Without these matches? It just isn't possible, WCW would never survive.
- I'm guessing, we got five or six weeks left...
- Meanwhile, Tolbert has made the amazing comeback of the destined loser...hit a forearm, body slam (the first slam/suplex of the show), what may have been a falcon arror.
- Tolbert, not practicing in the ways of winning, decides that now would be a good to time to talk to the crowd. He then tries to suplex Windham
- But it ain't happening...snap suplex by KW, and the Lariat O' Doom for the win.
- Damien vs Mike Enos
- This is indeed a weird match up...
- Enos starts the match by pushing Damien into the ropes...and after the ref orders for a break, open hand slap to the face by Enos.
- Enos pushes Damien into the ropes again...and Damien slaps back!
- Enos whips Damien into the corner and lays in with some punches
- Enos whips to the other corner, but misses the charge in and Damien gets some of his own punches.
- Damien whips Enos back to the orginal corner and runs in after him...Enos does a small backdrop that lands Damien on his feet on the apron.
- Damien climbs up the ropes, cross body block...
- Caught by Enos, powerslam!
- Damien gets back to his feet...armbar...and Damien walks the ropes!
- Enos yanks him off the top rope (but unlike Austin, does not stun him :) and puts him up in backbreaker position and gives him a modified airplane spin and throws him to the mat...cool!
- Took me a second, but I looked that up and found it to be an Airplane Spin Toss...
- Now, Enos puts Damien on a turnbuckle..2nd rope fallway slam! That's it...1, 2, 3!
- Enos looked real good in that match. Of course, the fact that he got all the major moves in probably helped.
- Steiner vs Steiner feud recap.
- You realize this has been going on for seven months now, and this is the first match? At this rate, Booker T and Stevie Ray won't face off till next year's Spring Stampede
- Barbarian w/Jimmy Hart vs Buddy Lee Parker
- Tony says hi to all the college students out there who he knows watches WCW Nitro ever week. Zybszko thinks that college students should get credits for watching WCW.
- Once again, you make the joke!
- Parker starts this with an armbar.
- Barbarian simply punches his way out of it...but then misses a follow up
- Parker goes for the old "three clotheslines to knock down the big guy" routine and hits the first two, but is caught by Barabarin on three and given a front slam.
- Barbarian eye gouges Parker, who rolls to the outside. Barbarian follows.
- Barbarian beats on Parker on the outside, punches, body slams, slams his head in to the apron, more punches, a short clothesline.
- Finnaly, Parker is rolled back in. Barbarian starts dealing out the worst headbutts I've ever seen.
- Parker agrees and starts punching.
- Barbarian decides it's time to no-sell...whips Parker into the ropes, misses a clothesline but ends up body slamming him to the mat.
- Barbarian, with Parker still on the ground, walks to the other side of the ring and stomps his foot on the ground. Tony realizes that Barbarian is "loading up his foot"
- Someplace in Texas, Shawn Michaels would be calling his lawyers...
- Would be, if anyone cared about the Barbarain.
- Oh yeah, Kick O' Fear, 1, 2, 3.
- How do you say 1, 2, 3 in Tongan?
- Nitro Highlights, August 24th.
- Lee Marshall reminds us off what we've already heard four times about Nitro coming to town
- This time Konnan is there.
- He's promising that Wolfpac is going be there at the UC an hour early, selling food and bootleg Wolfpac shirts.
- Lee sees legal problems in that.
- Brad Armstrong vs Fit Finley
- Gee, took them about a whole five seconds to bring up the Armstrong Curse.
- Finely locks up, ends up into the ropes, and despite both playing heels, we get a clean break.
- Brad taunts Fit. About what, I have no idea.
- Finely with a headlock on Brad, into a wristlock takedown...he forces Brad to his knees
- And Brad gets back up, still in the wristlock, but grabs the ropes.
- Another wristlock by Fit, and he forces Armstrong down again...who comes right back up.
- Finely switches over to the more popular armbar, and pushes down Brad using his hair.
- Brad gets to his feet again.
- Finely pushes Brad to the corner and arm whips him to the mat.
- Brad gets up, but gets hit by the mandatory European Uppercut.
- Armstrong comes back..a punch here, a knee lift there and he takes down Finely with an arm bar.
- Finely escapes, by getting a foot on the ropes.
- Brad grabs him from behind, which is reversed, into, you guessed it, another armbar.
- This may be exciting to some.
- I am not part of that some.
- Finely whips Brad, and takes him down with a clothesline...2 count.
- Finely stomps on Brad...and does this pump handle arm bar thing.
- Fit, it's still an armbar. Can't you do a chinlock or something?
- Brad grabs the ropes..kicks and punches Fit and whips him into the corner.
- Finely comes back out of the corner with a clothesline and knocks Brad to the mat
- But Brad rolls away from a knee drop.
- Brad punches Fit to the mat..slingshot on Fit...whip to the corner and Fit gets backdropped on his way back.
- Fit gets to his feet, Brad misses a punch...and it's time for a Tombstone. 1, 2, 3.
- Next week...we'll get Barry Darsow, Johnny Swinger, Hugh Morrus and The Dancin' Fools! 1/4 ain't bad
