WCW {Pro} - Sunday, 09/20/1998
- Just a couple of quick notes before I start this report.
- I apologize, but this week will lack a mailbag again. Two main
reasons for this:
- I don't get much mail
to start with. :)
- Lately, I've been quite busy with my studies at the University of Central Florida. There isn't anything that compares to the thrill of having an assignment due Tuesday and then two tests back-to-back on Thursday. Also, I recently started a job at the Holiday Inn Select close to my residence. That eats up a lot of time, too. But, it's all good, right?
- The other day, I finally got my hands on Arn Anderson's autobiography, "A Look Behind the Curtain." (Thanks, Bill!) I must say, this is one of the finest works I have ever read. Arn goes into great detail about his life before, during, and after wrestling. If you'd like to know how to order the book, go to Arn's official website.
- The {Pro} begins with a shot of J.J. Dillon confronting Arn Anderson.
- They say that J.J. is the latest to get involved in the reformation of The Four Horsemen.
- From Nitro (08/31/1998): J.J. confronts Double A.
- The announcers promise us two Exclusives on this edition of the {Pro}. However, no one ever vouched for the quality of these matches, as you will see later.
- Lee Marshall interviews Vincent.
- Vincent begins this segment by sneaking behind Lee and applying a headlock.
- As much as myself and others on the DDT Digest staff chide Vincent, he's done something many of us wanted to do -- strangle Lyin' Lee.
- The purpose of this segment, by the way, was to get over the fact that Vincent wants to get it on with Konnan.
- Vincent's "Too Sweeeet" sounds more pathetic than Hogan's, IMHO.
- For you hardcore fans -- ECW will be having a show in Kissimmee, FL at the Agircultural Center on September 27th.
- The announcers promise a complete rundown of Fall Brawl next week.
- {Pro} Exclusive #1: Scott Putski defeats Mike Nova after the Putski Bomb in 2:21.
- One thing is for sure -- we'll learn a jobber's finisher in this bout.
- A lockup starts this match and both participants trade holds.
- Scott Putz-ski applies a snapmare on Mike "No Relation to Aldo" Nova.
- By the way, I have no relation to the rock musician, either. Just the first name.
- Putz-ski with a snap suplex that gets a two-count.
- Nova whips Putz-ski to the corner and runs into him.
- Nova tries this again, but is reversed.
- Putz-ski is in control of this matchup.
- Nova gets a few blows in the corner.
- Nova whips Putz-ski but eventually gets clobbered.
- Putz-ski whips Nova into the ropes and lands a clothesline.
- Another whip and clothesline follows.
- A flying lariat and Torture Rack ends the match! Oh wait, wrong stiff.
- Putz-ski hits Nova with the Polish Hammer and finishes him off with the Putski Bomb. Zzzzzz...
- I just wasted 2:21 of my life watching this yawnfest.
- The announcers start to hype some guy called Goldberg. Who thehell is he, some mid-carder?!? :)
- Zbyszko claims that Mark McGwire broke Roger Maris's home run record because he rubbed his bat on Goldberg.
- If s**t could fly, then the {Pro} announcing team would be an airport.
- Starburst Road Report -- Monday Nitro comes to the Fleet Center in Boston, MA.
- They talk about the tag team situation, which leads into...
- From Worldwide (09/12/1998): The Dancin' Fools defeat Scott and Steve Armstrong when Disco Inferno pinned Steve after a piledriver.
- ANOTHER Armstrong job. Why?
- Y'know, Scott and Steve look somewhat alike. Being the case, it would make sense that they imploy the double-switch tactics made famous by Villanos IV-V. Of course, they'd still lose.
- From Thunder (09/10/1998): Kevin Nash defeats Stevie Ray by DQ when Vincent interfered.
- This week in WCW Motorsports. Hmmm, I have not heard a mention about Lance Hooper in weeks. Good, let's keep it that way. :)
- Lee interviews Stevie Ray
- Stevie claims that he is "news."
- Lee chides Stevie for breaking up Harlem Heat.
- Stevie claims he was the "missing link" in the puzzle because the nWo wasn't funky enough.
- They talk about the oWn and go to clips of "The Revolution."
- Does oWn stand for One Warrior Nation or One Wasted Neandrathal?
- {Pro} Exclusive #2: Jim Powers pins Adrian Byrd after a powerslam in 3:26.
- Lee claims the fans look toward to a power match-up like this one.
- I'm sure the fans also look forward to Tax Day, blind dates that don't bathe, and having root canals performed without any sedation.
- Jim Powers gets the momentary advantage after the initial lockup.
- A Powers whip leads to a standoff.
- Byrd scores a takedown and a scoop slam.
- Byrd measures Powers and hits a lariat.
- After being whipped by Byrd, Powers comes back with a kick and a clothesline.
- Powers works Byrd over in the corner.
- Two whips and a boot in the sternum follow by Powers.
- Powers takes a page out of Rick Fuller's repitoire and uses a vertical suplex, getting a two-count.
- Powers applies a reverse chinlock.
- Byrd comes back with a cross-body block.
- Powers with a whip and a back elbow. The pin attempt gets two.
- Powers, having nearly exhausted his supply of moves, goes back to the reverse chinlock.
- Byrd lands three elbows in an attempt to get out of the resthold.
- Byrd whips Powers into the corner but gets elbowed.
- Powers with what is called a patented move, the running kneelift. No comment.
- Powers whips Byrd into the ropes and nails a powerslam for the win.
- What is this, "stiff day" on the {Pro}?
- Scott Hudson compares Warrior to an old girlfriend that comes back into your life.
- No, Scott. An old girlfriend will lay down for you.
- They talk about the possible reformation of the Horsemen.
- From Nitro (09/07/1998): Curt Hennig vs. Dean Malenko in a blading-free cage match.
- ECW! ECW! I mean, uhm...
- Hennig and Lex Luger should have a contest over who can oversell moves the most.
- Arn Anderson saves the day when they try to repeat the ending of Fall Brawl '97 to Dean Malenko.
- No WCWSN footage this week! Maybe it was because of the excessive jobber footage in this week's exclusives. See you next week!
