WCW Saturday Night - Saturday, 04/03/99
- Welcome to Saturday Night! Tonight's main event is Flynn and Meng vs. Barbarian and Morrus.
- The mailbag:
- From loyal WCWSN viewer Bill Fluty:
A great WCWSN, but it will likely get murdered in the ratings. Some personal favorites got some rare time in the winner's circle, and some enhancement talent got an even rarer TV win. No big names involved, which is okay by me, but those undercard guys left standing are most likely ratings anethema.
Silver King shows up with a slightly new look, but he has some work on his new do-rag. Poor Lizmark Jr has the same loser's virus as Damien. He's one of the Luchadores who not only jobs to everyone else, he also jobs to the other Luchadores. I was truly surprised to see Disorderly Conduct pick up a win over the Armstrongs, even though they took the dive for the Cursed Ones last fall on WCWSN. I thought the Armstongs were due to pick up the win until they hit their finishing move and DC made the save. Wrestling Maxim #7 states when this happens, you lose. True to form, DC turns the tables and hits the winner. A true upset! Rumour has it DC is still stalking the WCWSN arena trying to find the pay window. Glad to see them get a win, though. Personal favorites Prince Iaukea and Jerry Flynn also come out on top. Another competitive match without a clear-cut winner at the start was Lenny Lane and Lash LeRoux. These guys have split wins on WCWSN over the past few months, I believe, and the match was well done. Lane may not be recoverable from the jobber heap (unfortunately), but they seem to be giving
LeRoux better treatment. The show would have been better to end on a non-DQ between Saturn and Jericho. I'll be sorry to see Jericho leave WCW, if he decides to, although one can't really blame him. Overall, a good show, but without the name value required these days to keep the average viewer tuned in.
- Fluty is indeed correct, last week's WCWSN rating was below normal, but believe it or not, as of late Nitro has been beating WCWSN by only one
rating point.
