A few random notes before we get to the mailbag, if you weel:
- I was bored on Thursday, so I decided to watch Thunder. Bad move. It made me think of an old truism, and ammend it. If, as the saying goes, an infinite number of monkeys, given an infinite amount of time, could sit at an infinite number of typewriters and eventually write Shakespeare's Hamlet, then two of them, in a half an hour, could book Nitro and Thunder.
- Special "Shoot" feature! Normally, DDT Digest doesn't do much "insider" stuff, as we don't have much contact with the business, and that sort of thing isn't what we do best anyway. However, we as a staff have pulled together every scrap of information we could find and called on every favor we have with our contacts in WCW and the wrestling business in general. Bill was going to save this for the Mid-Week Report, but it's too hot to pass up. So, without further ado, DDT Digest would like to proudly present a project that was months in the making! - I've got a great idea to help get a luchador over. Take someone like, say, El Dandy. Give him Adrian Adonis' old gimmick, and call him "The Man of A Thousand Shades of Eyeliner," Mil Mascara.
  Or maybe I just need to stop hitting the Dr. Pepper so hard...
- Extra-Special DDT Digest "props" go out to "The People's Vet," Official DDT Digest Fraternity Sister Nora W. She got word that she'll be taking her hilarious impression of The Rock across the pond to London, where she'll be attending Veterinary School!
  So if any of those "limeys" give her any lip, you can expect The People's Elbow to get dropped.
- Speaking of my fraternity, I've got to relay something from Official DDT Digest Fraternity Brother and Token WWF Apologist A.C. Leex. He absolutely slayed me by referring to Undertaker & Co. as "The Amishtaker and His Mennonites of Darkness, featuring Bradshaw and Farroq, The Electrolytes."
  You just don't find humor like that everywhere.
- Courtesy of the big heaping pile of badass-ness that is The Anagram Server, I found out that the letters in my full name can be rearranged to spell "Randy White Meanie." Hmmm....Think Golddust needs another sidekick?
  Of course, it can also spell "Yawner in the media", which could be a critique of my Nitro reports. Coincidence?
Anyway. On to the mailbag:

  Wade, yo yo yo, let me speak on dis. I hate to say it but your killing me. Despite the signature line [EDITOR'S NOTE: "If you smell what the Rock is cookin'"], I'm a WCW/DDT Digest Nitro Report mark. I cannot believe you didn't enjoy the Nature Boy in the nut house this week. When he kept referring to the little guy next to him as "Triple-A" I was in tears. To me, it shows that Flair will do what ever it takes to make the evening more entertaining. He sends a clear message to the others to get off their high horses.
  I'd rather watch him style and profile in the loony bin, then the Armstrong Brothers handicap match, the looks back at the previous week's Thunder or Nitro, or 90% of the stuff on USA (except the Rock, because other then Flair, the man can work a mike).
- Ryan "Don't Call Me Perry" Mason writes:
  
  A couple of notes on the show:
  Every subtle little crack that Schiavone made to Tenay, such as, "No matter how many times we throw you away, you keep coming right back," Tenay gave a courtesy laugh. Inside Tenay is thinking, "Keep on laughing, you dumb bastard. I'll have your job by next year!"
  Savage goes heel. What? WCW doesn't have enough heels?
  Rey Jr. getting the CW belt again is ludicrous. I'm sorry, I just don't see his appeal. He is a great wrestler with no charisma. What charisma he has is a mockery of The Human Catchphrase.
  Sting holds the belt for a whole hour and a half. How degrading.
  Ric Flair in the mental ward. How degrading.
  Scott Hall in the mental ward. Finally!
  Last but not least, when you are not the man that gets the pinfall in a four way match, does that not go as a loss on your record? Cause if it does, shouldn't Goldberg have a couple of more losses on his record? Or is that not "recognized"?

  Ok... Flair has been institutionalized, Charles Robinson is a bleach job away from being institutionalized. Someone's going to have to realize that throwing wrestlers in a psychiatric ward makes about as much sense as having security break up the matches. To point...
  - Sting - Identity Problems
  - Konnan - Clear nervous tic with the catchphrases
  - Goldberg - Masochism (and he grunts more than all of Flair's new friends combined)
  - Macho Man - Madness (that one is too easy)
  - Chris Benoit - Does diving headbutts onto steel chairs.... hello?

  - Bischoff - Megalomania
  - Schiavone - Selective amnesia and excessive hyperbole

  And if they take away people for narcicism (sp?) we'd lose Scotty Riggs, Lex Luger, our Paragon of Virtue, Lenny Lane, and Big Sexy.
  All we'd have left is Ralphus... I'd be OK with that actually.

  Do you not think it a little bit odd that both DDP and Flair are now playing heel roles, but DDP is able to fire off offense against "superfaces" like Sting and Goldberg while Flair can't seem to even hurt that little midget Rey Mysterio? The treatment Flair is receiving with constant losses and now a stay in the mental asylum and a match with the always-horrible Rowdy One at the next PPV is nothing shy of ridiculous. I agree Nash is getting a little better at the booking, but he needs to put away whatever animosity he has with the Nature Boy and give him some decent angles as well as some decent offense.

  Some impertinent thoughts on pertinent subjects:
  What's the deal with the two world title changes on Nitro? It seems to me that it was a poor strategy to pop a rating. Good luck. WCW is past the stage where they can throw something out there and just draw people away from RAQ. Six or seven months ago, maybe, but not anymore. It will take several months of consistently good shows to draw more viewers.
  By the way, that stuff with Ric Flair was beyond pitiful. It was a mind-numbingly stupid way to portray a legend. But it was pretty damn funny to see him spazzing out and dancing like that.
  Rumor has it that Roddy Piper has signed a new contract and will be on TV more. Ugh. Piper may be one of the biggest stars of the last twenty years, but he hasn't made sense for the last ten. I love cheap heat as much as anyone, but it's time for Piper to give it up. He's not entertaining, and it's embarassing to see WCW try and make him look hip.
  I agree that Rey Misterio Jr. doesn't need the Cruiserweight Title. That belt will not get him over any more than he already is. It should be used to elevate guys like Psichosis and Blitzkrieg. Even keeping it on Kidman would be better than giving it back to Rey Jr. Nothing against Rey, he's one of my favorites, but he doesn't need the belt. One of the reasons that WCW is losing to Vince is that they don't give the fans a reason to care about their workers. Keeping the cruiserweight strap on Psychosis or giving it to Blitzkrieg would be a good first step to getting them over with the fans.
- Matt asks:
  
  First of all, I saw this during the Raven/Armstrongs match, and I've seen it other places too - A wrestler is making a pin attempt, and at the count of two-and-a-half someone hits him with a chair or jumps on him. When this happens, the guy being pinned's shoulders don't come off the ground. Why does the ref always stop counting?
  And secondly, can't Scott Steiner get a girlfriend? Why does he constantly go after other people's wives or girlfriends? That guy just makes me want to puke.

  Is it just me or does it seem that Gonnad's pants are falling farther and farther away from his waist. I always wondered how he keeps them up.
  On a related Gonnad note: Doesn't Rey Jr. look like Gonnad Jr. the action figure. He comes complete with camoflouge and catchpharses.
  Also since Erik Watts preformed possibly the worst dropkick in PPV history. Did you see him perform the worst Frankenstiner in Nitro history on Bam Bam. I would have loved to hear Tony call that. " It's the worst Frankenstiner in the history of our sport on the Greates Nitro Ever!!!!!!!"
  Lastly, what's up with DDP's Road Dogg impersonation: "the Heavyweight Champion of the Worllllllllldddd!!!!!!"?
- Since Official DDT Digest Medical Advisor Phil didn't write in on the subject, Dan from Arcadia, CA says:
  
  I wanted to let you know about Hogan's "serious" condition. I had the SAME damn surgery he did this past summer, and I WALKED out of surgery. For WCW to blow this thing way out of proportion is...well, typical of them. Just to let people know, they poke two holes into your knee. One for the fiber optic camera, and one for the little saw that they use to cut off the torn cartilige. When all is said and done, you have two little marks next to your kneecap, and it's so devastating, 2 hours later, you have to walk out of the hospital instead of run. I was playing sports in 2 weeks....so Hogan, how's that? (for my sake, I had Dr. Tibone of the Kerlan Jobe Clinic in Inglewood...they do the Lakers, Dodgers, Angels, and everyother Pro Sports team on the West Coast)

Well, to my amazement, Flair hit a move off the top rope! It was a knee drop that almost hit TA in the neck. When I saw it, I knew I was witnessing history.

  I bet if it was Scott Hall in the NUT HOUSE we would worry that it was offending people with mental illness but no word of it because it is Flair. Biased Reporting? Must be because you go on to whine about the report on Hogans knee. Get over it as WCW is not just about Hogan. If it was he would still be champion and Flair would not have such a big role. I come back from time to time to read DDT report and you are still moaning about Hogan. This publications man is on TOP yet you still want to complain? I just don't get it or you see stuff that I don't see?
  Not a Hogan fan but I am not a Hogan basher either. Just seems silly that you guys are so obsessed with him.

Match 1: Scott and Steve Armstrong vs. WCW World Tag Team Champions Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr.
- ARMSTRONGS!!!
- We see "The end of the Armstrong Curse," according to Tony.
- They talk a bit about the Armstrong losing streak.
- Scott is on the mic, and promises to prove that they are world championship material, even though this is a non-title match.
- Kidman and 2-Gold Latino come out.
- Steve and Kidman start out.
- Armlocks to start.
- Headscissors and a dropkick by Kidman. The Armstrongs regroup in the corner.
- Scott and Rey in now.
- Avalanche clothesline by Scott! Offense!!!
- Dropkicks by Rey.
- Kidman in.
- Steve holds down the top rope, so Kidman goes flying to the floor.
- Steve works on Kidman on the outside.
- My cable is messing up...
- Kidman avoids a Steve corner charge, and hits the rope-bounce bulldog.

- Dan - Buff's theme song is almost as bad as Paul Wight's . . .
- Kitty insults a "fat boy" at ringside.
- Kitty gives "Buff Da Chump" five seconds.
- Buff moves to leave, but when Kitty turns around, Buff is posing at him.
- Kitty with a thrust kick to the jaw.
- Buff with a hiptoss and armdrag, followed by a dropkick.
- Buff poses.
- Kitty finally gets back into the ring.
- Kitty wants a handshake.
- They've spent 95% of the time stalling.
- Buff takes Kitty down with an armlock.
- Buff with ANOTHER armdrag and an armbar.
- This isn't going to win any workrate awards.
- Kitty tosses Buff to the floor, where Oono gets some kicks in.
- Buff s...l...o...w...l...y rolls into the ring.
- Buff with a swinging neckbreaker.
- Bagwell tries a monkey flip, but Oono holds onto Kitty, so Buff just hits the mat.
- Kitty sits down on a sunset flip, but Buff finally brings him over.
- If you look closely, you can actually see the souls of the people in the crowd leaving their bodies during this match.
- Buff fights out of a chinlock, but Kitty goes to the eyes.
- Buff holds on to avoid a dropkick.
- Buff slams Kitty, and clotheslines him.
- Kitty holds Buff for Oono to kick him, but of course, Buff moves.
- As Kitty gets to his feet, Buff goes up top and nails the Blockbuster for the win!
- Kitty chases Oono to the back.
DJ Stimpy spins some tunes.
The Presidential Limo and the Loony Bin Bus pull up outside the arena.
- Flair and Triple-A lead the way.
- Doug Dillinger meets the crew.

- Arn appears worried about Flair.
- Flair offers Gene a hug from the nurse.

- Flair wants Savage and George first.
- Flair talks some smack about what Robinson will do to George.

- As we come back, Savage and the Ho Train are making their way down.
- The Train appears to be missing their cues.
- More puppies than the ASPCA.
- Savage tries to be "fly."
- Why did Savage steal Disco Inferno's shirt?
- Doug Dillinger and security come to get Savage. Savage clears them out, but Flair grabs George.
- The cops come to get Savage.
- George is left in the ring with the Flair Posse.
- Robinson says his strategy is to buy George a pack of gum, because everyone knows that a bimbo can't chew gum and walk at the same time.
- George slaps Robinson.
- The Head Nurse picks George up in a choke!
- The Nurse chokes George out.
- Security comes to remove the prone George from the ring.
- Flair hypes his match with Page tonight.
- Flair talks smack to Sting, as well as Goldberg.
- Sting makes his way down.
- Flair says that he's the franchise, not Sting.
- Sting decks Flair.
- Arn stands between Sting and Flair.
- Flair calls for Goldberg.
- Goldberg makes his way down.
- Flair says that Goldberg is the franchise. Goldberg decks Flair.
- Sting pulls Goldberg away, and he and Goldberg start to brawl.
- Security hits the ring, but gets dumped.
- Sting and Goldberg brawl as the ring fills with cops.
- The crowd wants the brawl.
- The two men get separated and go to leave.
- Sting breaks free and the brawl starts again.
- More cops, etc., as we go to commercial....
Flair praises Stevie Ray in the back
- Flair says Kevin Nash is his problem. When Flair wins the title tonight, he'll have to face Nash at Slamboree.
- Flair offers Stevie $100,000 if he delivers Nash out cold on a table.
- Stevie says he's here for two things: breaking necks, and cashing checks.

Match 3: Hak (w/o Chastity) vs. Bam Bam Bigelow (w/ plundah)
- A special "Hardcore Match" graphic comes up.
- Hak makes his way down with a ladder and a kendo stick.
- Hak is out solo.
- Hak throws a couple of tables in.
- I could swear I heard Bigelow get announced as "WCW Hardcore Champion".
- Bigelow brings down a can of plundah.
- Hak opens up with a trash can shot to Bigelow's head.
- The favor gets returned.
- Crowd: "We Want Blood"
- Bigelow with an earringer with trash can lids, then uses a mop to clean Hak's face.
- Bigelow with the "Subliminal Advertising" Surge Can Shot.
- Hak chokes Bigelow with a rope.
- Nick "Ponytail" Patrick is the ref.
- Bigelow whips Hak into the laddered corner.
- Bigelow puts Hak through a table WITH AUTHORITY!!!
- Bigelow hiptosses Hak through another table.
- Hak with a horrible bulldog on a ladder.
- Hak works Bigelow's leg.
- Commercial.
- As we come back, there are two more tables in the ring.
- Bigelow catches Hak up top, and superplexes him through two tables.
- "Useless" Brian Knobbs makes his way down with a trash can.
- Sigh.
- Knobbs beats on Bigelow. Hak helps him.
- Hak takes a swing at Knobbs, and eats a trash can for his trouble.
- Knobbs rants at the camera, and leaves. Nick Patrick moves to throw the match out.
In the B-Team locker room
- Stevie Ray says that Flair offered him $50,000 if the B-Team takes "Fruit Booty" Kevin Nash out. The money will be all for them.
- The B-Team leaves, and we hear a toilet flush.
- It's Triple-A in the bathroom. Um.....ok.

Match 4: Konnan vs. Horace Hogan
- Oh dear Lord no. Gonnad.
- B-Team music brings out Horace.
- Gonnad talks about meeting Stevie Ray at Slamboree.
- Gonnad says something that could loosely be translated as "If you send the B-Team after me tonight, I have backup."
- Gonnad with the CRAPPY FLOATOVER BULLDOG OF MILD IRRITATION!
- They brawl on the floor.
- Short-arm clothesline from Horace.
- Horace with a suplex.
- Avalanche clothesline from Horace.
- Horace with another lariat.
- Horace locks on a chinlock.
- Horace keeps control.
- Horace with a Hoganesque big boot, and a splash off the ropes.
- Gonnad with a lucha rollup for two.
- I'm about to claw my own eyeballs out to stop the pain.
- Horace with a rear chinlock.
- Horace with a horrible bodyslam, and goes up to the second buckle.
- He eats boot as he comes off.
- We now get our normal Gonnad Wrestling Match: Rolling clothesline, mule kick, carpetmuncher, Tequila Sunrise.
- He locks it on, but the B-Team hits the ring.
- They beat on Gonnad.
- Nash hits the ring, and delivers a jackknife feather-fall powerdrop to Vincent.
- Adams, Norton, and Stevie beat on Nash.
- Nash and Gonnad clear the ring.
- Aldo: The %#$@ storytelling is this? Just a few weeks ago, Nash punked Konnan out.
- Gonnad and Nash stare down.
- Stevie promises the "Fruit Booty" it's not over.
- This is so very, very pointless.
- Nash and Gonnad touch fists, and Nash leaves.
Some of the mental patients are in the production truck.
Ric, Arn, and Charles Robinson are in a room
- David Flair and Torrie Wilson arrive.
- Flair gives Dave a handshake.
- Flair thanks David for helping him.
- Flair says that he'll help David out. David will be in the Nitro main event.
- Dave is happy.
- Flair praises his son.
- Flair tells Robinson to book David with Meng.
- Flair also tells Robinson to deliver a message from David to Meng that David thinks that Meng can't "go" anymore.
- Arn says that Meng will kill Dave. Flair agrees.
A red limo pulls up
- Dear Lord. Roddy Piper is in the arena.
- WCW - NOBODY CARES!!! GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULLS!!!
- Piper is looking for Flair's room.
- Piper charges the room and hits Flair with a trash can.
- Piper slaps a cop.
- So very, very sad.
- Piper beats the tar out of Flair as the loonies look on.
- Piper puts a "Reality Check" shirt Flair. I bet the same genius who thought up the "I.C.O.N." shirt thought that one up too.
Ric Flair meets Scott Steiner in the hall, and sends him after Nash
- Steiner says Nash is his.
DJ Turn-The-Channel "spins" some "vynil"
- He wants me to make some noise. How does "This Sucks" sound?
Apparently, we're going to a live press conference with Lex Luger and Elizabeth
- The picture starts to fade in and out.
- That was random as shit.
We see the Big Bad Booty Daddy stalking the halls.
- Steiner asks Rey Jr. where Nash is. Rey sends him to the dressing room that he just left.
- Steiner finds Buff in the dressing room, though, and gets distracted by beating the tar out of him.
Match 5: Meng vs. David Flair (w/Torrie Wilson)
- Zamfir brings out the Munster Meng.
- Actually, Meng's music brings out two loonies and three Nitro girls.
- Meng comes out after them and walks to the ring.
- WCW Generic Metal Theme #27 brings out David Flair.
- Torrie is Torrie now, instead of "Samantha."
- Charles Robinson is the ref.
- Torrie tries to reason with Meng, but David sends her out.
- Meng shoves Dave across the ring.
- Flair with chops that Meng no-sells.
- Meng floors Dave with a chop of his own.
- A Meng headbutt floors Dave.
- More Meng chops in the corner.
- Meng slaps Dave around.
- Dave tries to fight back, but his offense is no-sold.
- They lock up.
- David gets some sold kicks in.
- Meng with an inverted atomic drop.
- Meng with a Hogan Back Rake of Death.
- Heenan brings up Dave zapping Ric with the tazer.
- At least we've got some continuity.
- Meng suplexes Flair.
- Meng locks on the Tongan Death Grip.
- Charles Robinson counts the pin....one....two....three.
- Ric comes down the aisle.
- Ric wonders what's wrong with Dave.
- Flair pelvic thrusts at Torrie as Dave does a stretcher job.
- Flair dares David to send him away again.
- That wasn't particularly good, but it did have angle continuity, so I'm down with it.

- The challenger - Curt Hennig.
- Great. A repeat of the showstopper from Thunder.
- Yes yes yes....no no no....
- Hennig jaws at the crowd.
- They lock up.
- Armdrag from Hennig.
- Hennig with a shoulderblock.
- Hennig cartwheels for some random reason.
- Hennig bats his gum into the crowd.
- Booker with a hiptoss and armdrag on Hennig.
- Hennig snaps Booker's neck over the top rope.
- Hennig wraps the leg around the post.
- Hennig goes to work on the left knee.
- Stevie Ray runs to ringside.
- Hennig avoids a slapjack shot.
- Rick Steiner hits the ring, and attacks Booker.
- Booker dumps Rick, and they brawl on the floor.

- The hometown boy fixes his hair.
- DDP works Flair over in the corner.
- DDP backdrops Flair.
- DDP in control early on.
- Flair with a comeback, and DDP sells the chops!
- Hiptoss by Flair, and Page hits the floor.
- Flair chops Page against the rail.
- Page takes control on the floor.
- DDP with the "self hi-five"
- More brawling up the aisle.
- Flair with the Great Equalizer.
- Flair with a straight-on punch to the 'nads.
- Robinson is telling Page to get into the ring.
- Page comes off the ropes with a swinging neckbreaker for two.
- Page with some back-elbows in the corner.
- Flair reverses with chops and jabs.
- Ric with the Flair Kneedrop.
- HUGE backdrop from Page.
- Slow count by Robinson. Page calls him a "jackoff."
- Flair Flip to the floor.

- This spot would be so much more effective if it didn't happen in EVERY SINGLE FLAIR MATCH.
- Flair gets to the ropes, but gets another elbow to the sack.
- Page puts the hold on again.
- Flair blocks the leg cinch, and escapes.
- Flair goes to the eyes.
- Flair chops seem to only have effect in Charlotte.
- Page with the discus lariat for two.
- Page locks on a chinlock.
- Flair avoids an elbowdrop.
- Page goes to the eyes. Flair Flip, ducks a clothesline, AND FLAIR HITS A TOP ROPE MOVE!!! FLYING AXEHANDLE!!!!
- Randy Savage and George come down.
- Flair suplexes Page.
- Flair goes for the Figure Four on Page....and gets it!
- George hits the ring and pulls Flair's hair.
- Robinson chases George.
- DDP has some knucks and hits Flair. It appears that Savage tossed them to him.
- Scott Dickenson runs in and counts the pin. DDP retains.
- That was.....anticlimactic.
- We see a replay.
- Um.....ok.
- With that, we fade to black....
I think the best summary of this . . . whatever it was . . . can be said by Henry, who will be helping cover Thunder this week. He has an excellent point - compare the crowd on RAW to the crowd on Nitro, and you'll get an idea of why one promotion is currently kicking the tar out of the other. I mean if you can't get the Charlotte MF'ing Colosseum loud, you're doing something horribly wrong.
