One Third of The Triple Threat, Chan writes in with comments from last week's report
Some responses to last week's column: First, the trivia answer was incomplete. Barry Windham held the tag team championships with Curt hennig earlier this year as well. There were too many responses to credit them all.
Aldo also clarified
something.
"You said the following in your Worldwide report:
[Tom did hit what Hudson called a Yurinagi suplex which
resembled a choke slam at the 5:09 mark and made the hot
tag 22 seconds later to build drama. Still, little heat,
as Disorderly Conduct are not clearly defined babyfaces.
Don't fear! WCW piped in crowd response while the crowd
was obviously lethargic. At least they were still there
though.] What Hudson described was a
"urinage," it's just produced
yur-ee-nag-ee. It's the same move as Rocky Maivia's
Rock Bottom. Also, DDP and Vampiro perform similar
moves. However, as you described the move
(resemblance to a chokeslam) I doubt that it can be
called a suplex. The victim doesn't flip over, but
on occasions he will be turned from one direction to
another."
Don't blame Chan for forgetting the Hennig/Windham title reign...WCW brainwashed us to forgetting that Benoit and Malenko were a face tag team in early '99.
Bill Fluty drops his weekly line:
Just a short note to provide my "yea" vote to having the Gambler instituted as the initial Patron Saint of WorldWide as suggested by Chan and Charlie, who pinch-hit for you during your absence. Perhaps it could be a rotating thing, as certain performers seem to make many return visits to the "WorldWide Arena", moreso than others -- Lenny and Lodi seem to be weekly fixtures and Disorderly Conduct make their share of appearances, too. In fact, a few shows back was the anniversary of their only WorldWide win. Just a thought.
Back about 1½-2 years ago, the Cult of Worldwide watchers proclaimed Rick Fuller, Jerry Flynn and Roadblock as the Holy Trinity. Since then, Fuller and Roadblock have been seemingly let go, while Flynn has, at times, nearly turned into a respectible midcarder. (Nearly.) Seeing that there is an opening, I think Disorderly Conduct would best fit. Lenny and Lodi have a pushed angle, and a title...someone must have been asleep at the booking pencil that taping. And if the Gambler is let go...he can't be very well be God of a promotion he's not part of. But if he is still around, I support his sainthood as well.
The Gambler leads me to another point I wanted to bring up...
When was the last time you saw someone heavily promoted on WCW Television as Berlyn has been, leading up to his first match? Glacier comes to mind. Hopefully WCW has learned from that mistake...hyping a guy up only works if he's actually good. Highly promoted crap is still crap. Let's hope that Alex has spent time in the ring, so he can back up the great techinal wrestler promos.
I bring this up, because Glacier's first televised match was on the {Pro}...against the Gambler. Ironic, no?
And Glacier's first singles loss?
Buff Bagwell. Freaky vibes, no?
