WCW Saturday Night - November 27, 1999

On that note, I will not be around to write up a report for the Thunder on December 2^nd, and the Cubs Fan will be covering. It seems that there's this big case competition in one of our classes that's going to take up the entire following day. Since they give us just two weeks to prepare a twenty-minute presentation, I have this gut feeling that the preparation will go down to the wire. In any case, that's what substitutes are for.

• Your commentators tonight are Scott Hudson and Larry Zbyzsko.
• Supposedly, Adams received his walking papers from WCW a few days prior.
• His opponent: Perry Saturn, with "The Wendy's Franchise" Shane Douglas.
• Charles Robinson is the referee.
• Lock-up, Saturn goes behind and Adams does the same.
• Saturn tries a hammerlock, but Adams applies a single leg takedown.
• Saturn grabs Adams by the leg and brings him to the ropes but misses a sitdown splash on the leg.
• Saturn gets a shoulderblock off the ropes.
• Adams comes back with a European uppercut among other things.
• Adams charges at Saturn but misses and goes over the top rope.
• Douglas brings Adams back inside.
• Saturn with a belly-to-belly suplex.
• Saturn applies an armbar, putting his leg behind Adams' head.
• Saturn leaps on Adams' arm and applies a cross armbreaker.
• Saturn brings Adams to the corner and wraps his arm around the cable.
• Saturn tries more offense in the corner, but Adams gets in a neckbreaker.
• Adams whips Saturn into a lariat.
• Adams hits the Superkick, sending Saturn out of the ring.
• Adams dives off the apron with a back elbow.
• Adams sends Saturn into the rail.
• Douglas grabs Adams from behind.
• Saturn charges at Adams, who evades, but Saturn stops just short of hitting his partner.
• Adams shoves Saturn into Douglas.
• Saturn gets sent back inside and Adams goes up top.
• Douglas grabs the ropes, tripping Adams in the corner.
• A superplex and Rings of Saturn follow for the victory.

• Post-match, Douglas rants about how Bret Hart prevented a flag-burning on Nitro.
• While Douglas is speaking, clips of the flag match's aftermath are played.
• Saturn and Douglas rant some more, with a "jackass" from Douglas' mouth escaping the TBS censors.
• Douglas talks about the crowd cheering Hart, while they booed the Revolution.
• Douglas: "Remember, WCW. You wanted a revolution. You got a Revolution."
• I highly doubt that most of the words bleeped out from Douglas' tirade were actual profane words.

• I'm curious, is a balding forehead a pre-requisite toward landing a job on the WCW announcing team? With exception to Tony Schiavone, you have Scott Hudson and Gene Okerlund who are already bald and Zbyzsko, as well as Mike Tenay, are receding. Maybe in ten or fifteen years, I can get a job calling WCWSN!

• Villano IV comes out for this lucha match.
• Hudson talks about Villano being stretchered out of the ring a year and a half ago.
• His opponent: someone who knows his role.
• Villano extends a hand, but Juvi has none of it.
• Juvi with an armdrag takedown.
• And another. And another.
• Juvi sends Villano over the top rope.
• Villano with a kick and an attempted backslide.
• Villano applies a front chancery.
• Juvi gets out and applies one of his own.
• Villano with a hammerlock into a wristlock.
• Villano flips Juvi onto his shoulders, who responds with a headscissors.
• Juvi sends Villano to the corner but eats a boot.
• Juvi tries a floatover, but Villano catches his legs.
• Villano tosses Juvi's legs to Johnny Boone, who tosses them back. Cute.
• Juvi headscissors Villano out of the ring.
• Juvi follows with a dive to the outside.
• Villano sends Juvi to the safety rail.
• Both men are back inside.
• Villano mounts Juvi on the turnbuckle.
• Villano grabs Juvi and delivers a reverse powerbomb for two.
• Villano with an armbar.
• Villano picks up Juvi by the hair, scoops him up and applies a shoulderbreaker, Rocky Maivia's finishing move during his face run pre-NOD.
• Lateral press gets two.
• Villano with a seated abdominal stretch.
• Villano with THE BITCHSLAP OF DEATH!
• Juvi ducks a pair of clotheslines off the ropes, applies a body scissors and delivers a bulldog for 2.9.
• In the corner, Juvi lands ten punches to Villano's left ear.
• Hudson calls Villano IV "The Masked Dentist."
• Juvi charges at Villano in the corner but eats turnbuckle.
• Villano backdrops Juvi onto the apron.
• Juvi responds with a hot-shot.
• Juvi hits a springboard gullotine legdrop on Villano.
• Juvi drops the straps, dances and hits his variation of The People's Elbow.
• Juvi hits the Juvidriver for the win.

• Good match. So far, the quality of the wrestling on this show has already exceeded Nitro and Thunder.

• Curly drives Lash's eyes across the top rope.
• Curly whips Lash into a boot.
• Curly applies an armbar and a Japanese armdrag.
• Curly with a delayed scoop slam.
• Curly mounts the second turnbuckle and misses the fist dive.
• Lash with a dropkick.
• Lash with some rights, the Bourbon Street Blues and a clothesline over the top rope.
• Lash hits a baseball slide dropkick on Curly.
• Curly hops on the apron and takes over with punches.
• Curly tries to send Lash's head to the turnbuckle but it gets reversed.
• Lash sends Curly in the hard way.
• Lash with a front slam.
• Lash misses an elbowdrop.
• Curly with a neckbreaker for two.
• Curly applies a chinlock.
• Lash elbows out, goes to the ropes, tries a sunset flip but gets punched out.
• Curly stomps on Lash's face with his boot.
• Curly punches Lash in the corner, whips him to the other and gets a boot in.
• Curly gets sent to the corner and floats over a Lash elbowsmash.
• Lash puts Curly into the Whiplash out of nowhere for the win.

• Jarrett forearms Byrd from behind before the bell sounds.

• Jarrett drives Byrd into another rail.
• And again.
• Byrd sent back in.
• Crowd with a "Jarrett Sucks" chant.
• Byrd kicks Jarrett on a back bodydrop attempt.
• Jarrett takes over and whips Byrd.
• After Byrd misses a crossbody, we see Creative Control on the entryway.
• One of the Harris brothers manhandles Byrd outside before tossing him back in.
• Jarrett whips Byrd, who tries a sunset flip but gets punched out.
• Jarrett whips Byrd into the corner, but misses the elbow charge.
• Byrd schoolboys Jarrett for two.
• Jarrett baseball slides under Byrd, gives him a kick and applies The Stroke (forward Russian legsweep) for the win.

• If there is a positive thing about this match, its the fact that Byrd wasn't given an opportunity to jump around like a damned fool after a successful move.

• Funk with a headlock to start.
• Funk comes off the ropes with a shoulderblock.

• Skipper with a front kick to the gut.
• Skipper takes Funk down with his knee and applies an armbar.
• Skipper with a cradle for two.
• Funk with an overhead German suplex.
• Funk puts the boots to Skipper.
• Funk with a kneedrop.
• Funk picks up Skipper for a powerbomb but flips him forward instead, dropping him on his stomach.
• Funk with an axehandle from the turnbuckle.
• Funk with some forearms to the back.
• Skipper with an inside cradle into a small package for two.
• Funk with a slam for two.
• Funk applies a chinlock.
• Skipper with some elbows, but Funk drives him down to the mat.

• Skipper with a suplex that looks like a Northern Lights, but no pin attempt was made.

• Both guys looked pretty damn good. Funk seems to be a little stiff, though. But, that's not always a bad thing.

• Coming out to Ernest Miller's pre-James Brown music: Sonny Siaki.
• First time I've seen Rick Cornell. Outside of a ponytail, his head is shaved and he gets Yuji Nagata's old music.
• Cornell with an armdrag takedown.
• Siaki tries a waistlock but Cornell gets out of it.
• Cornell works on Siaki's arm.
• Cornell with a legsweep and a cover for one.
• Siaki tries a whip but Cornell reverses.
• Siaki grabs Cornell's leg on a kick and gets in a DDT.
• Siaki whips Cornell into a fireman's carry.
• Siaki then delivers a front slam for two.
• Siaki drives an elbow into Cornell's back.
• Siaki with a standing rear chinlock into a forearm to the chest.

• Cornell escapes a scoop slam, shoves Siaki into the ropes and gives him an elbow to the back.
• Cornell puts Siaki into an inverted DDT position, then spins him and plants him face-first for the win. Nice move.

• Attitude comes out in a jacket that looks rather Taz-esque.
• His opponent: MENG!
• Oh, please, go all-stiff on this fool Attitude.
• Meng shoves Attitude into the corner.
• Attitude tries a clothesline but gets sent back to the corner.
• Attitude tries a sunset flip but a double-chop ends that.
• Meng with a chop near the ropes.
• And a chop in the corner.
• Meng hits a shoulderbreaker.
• Meng with a suplex, during which Hudson acts surprised that Meng is using "another wrestling maneuver."
• Meng chokes Attitude on the middle rope.
• Meng whips Attitude into a back bodydrop.
• Meng circles around Attitude, then gives him the Tongan Death Grip for the pinfall victory!
• YOUR WINNER: Meng via Tongan Death Grip in 2:13.
• Oh, shit. Berlyn is next.

• Out comes Frankie Lancaster, who looks like he's taken a few hits off the juice needles in the back.
• Berlyn comes out.
• Hmm. I hate Lancaster. I hate Berlyn (but Alex Wright the dancer is cool in my book). Who's the referee?
• It's Charles Robinson. Go Lil' Squeegee!
• Crowd starts a "USA" chant, which actually works in this case.
• Lock-up, Berlyn takes Lancaster to the corner and hits some kicks.
• Berlyn with a European uppercut.
• Lancaster with an armdrag takedown and a dropkick.
• Lancaster sends Berlyn to the corner.
• Berlyn tries a clothesline but eats a right fist.
• Lancaster punches away in the corner and gives Berlyn a monkeyflip.
• Berlyn rakes the eyes.
• Berlyn applies a variation of the side suplex.
• Lancaster whips Berlyn, who ducks under him and delivers a spinning heel kick for two.
• Berlyn drives his elbow into Lancaster's head.

• Berlyn with a right before he goes into the ring and back out to stop the count.

• Some backwater-ish music brings out the Outlaws. For the sake of simplicity, they will be referred as Outlaw #1 and #2, respectively.
• Their opponents: the new tag team champions, referred to in this report as CC #1 and #2, as neither wants to be called Patrick, yuk yuk yuk.
• CC #1 beats the hell out of Outlaw #1 in the corner.
• CC #1 whips Outlaw #1 into the corner.
• CC #1 with a gutwrench salto.
• A trio of clotheslines by #1.
• Tag to Outlaw #2, who gets a drop toehold in.
• The Outlaws combine on a double clothesline.
• CC #1 elbows Outlaw #2 and he goes outside.
• CC #2 manhandles the Outlaw outside.
• Back inside, CC #1 with a right and an elbowdrop.
• Another elbowdrop. ANOTHER elbowdrop.
• CC #1 with a whip and a big boot.
• Tag to CC #2.
• Outlaw #2 gets some token jobber offense until a side slam ends the match.
