WCW Saturday Night - Saturday, December 18, 1999
- Howdy folks..Dave here, with your WCW Saturday Night Report, filling in for Dan this week..
- To give you a quick background on who the heck I am, I'm a 23 year old sportscaster/radio DJ from Wilmington, DE..I still do some sportscasting in Lynchburg, VA, though. More importantly, I'm a longtime WRESTLING (**NOT** Sports Entertainment) Fan..For that reason, I usually prefer WCW, although lately, it's really been a mixed batch of crap and good wrestling...In any case, if you want to know more about me, try my website at http://www.davewalls.net
- But enough about me, let's get to the show!!
- Te logo/montage rolls..It's Club WCWSN!
- Match #1: Scott Armstrong vs. "Squire" Dave Taylor (w/ Lord Steven Regal)
- I've always wondered..what's up with the eyes looking out the rear of Scott Armstrong's Trunks? Never mind...;p
- While Taylor enters the ring, we get a shot of Regal carrying the Union Jack. Steve isn't even dressed in his normal garb..just a gray T-Shirt. On top of that, he's hunched over, and appears to be in quite a bit of pain..
- Armstrong attacks before the bell!!
- Taylor recovers, and the two exchange full nelsons.
- Armstrong delivers a clothesline that sends Taylor outside!
- Taylor begs off in the corner, and while Armstrong shows mercy, Taylor attacks with European Uppercuts.
- Taylor tosses SA over the top, leaving him prone to Lord Steven and the Union Jack getting rammed into him..
- After getting tossed back in, Taylor works over Armstrong in the corner.
- Taylor with a pumphandle, into a gutbuster! Wow...that surprised me...Nice move!
- Another pumphandle, turned into an abdominal stretch, and then into a slam.
- Armstrong gets whipped to the corner, but moves away from a charging Taylor.
- Armstrong lands a solid drop kick. Whip to the ropes, and a perfect crossbody from Armstrong. Two-count.
- Armstrong is again distracted by Regal, which allows Taylor to land (what else?) a European Uppercut.
- As Regal looks to toss the Union Jack in, Steve Armstrong comes out!
- As you may or may not remember, Steve was on his way to victory over Regal last week, when he was bludgeoned by the Union Jack.
- While Steve (Armstrong) dukes it out, Steve (Regal) manages to toss the Union Jack to Taylor, who gets rolled up for the 3!!
- ARMSTRONGS WIN!
- YOUR WINNER:Scott Armstrong via rollup.
- The Armstrongs hightail it out of there, while Regal consoles Taylor and gives that look of shock and disgust that cracks me up.
- Party at Wade's house!
- We return with a nicely edited promo of the Hart/Goldberg/Outsiders story from Nitro.
- Ads.
- Match #2: Villanos IV & V vs Disorderly Conduct
- It's all about the Villanos!!!
- Ugh..it's the "new" Disorderly Conduct..
- The names and identities are going to be tough to call, since Villanos are masked, and I don't know the new DC guys..I'll try to keep up.
- Villanos attack before the bell! (Seems to be a trend tonight..)
- Nice doubleteaming by the Villanos, including a hotshot on Mean Mike by V5.
- Ahem..a..'nad shot..on Tuff Tom, and both DCers roll outside. Tag to V4.
- Double suicide dive by the Villanos!!
- This has been a squash so far..
- Tuff Tom finally gets control, and lands a Rock Botto...er..Cobra Clutch Slam..
- Tag to Mean Mike, who lands an elbow in the back of V4.
- Tag to Tom, who climbs the top rope...
- A Spinning Spine Buster by Mike, and then Tom lands a sloppy flying elbow for the three-count.
-
- YOUR WINNERSDisorderly Conduct via flying elbow
- Tenay has the gall to call Disorderly Conduct "Rising Young Stars in WCW's Tag Team Division"..someone get Jeff Jarrett out here, and smash some sense into him..
- Hall/Benoit promo for Starrcade
- Someone forgot to tell them that Hall got a case of "Dontwannajob-itis"
- Match #3: Chris Adams vs Dean Malenko
- Umm..didn't they fire Adams already? Sheesh..At least he'll job to....
- Dean Malenko, who looks pissed..
- Scott Hudson lists Malenko's different nicknames (Man of 1,000 holds, Iceman, etc)
- They lock up, and Adams lands a shoulderblock..
- Punch...kick...punch...kick...YAWN...
- Malenko tosses Adams outside, and works him outside the ring.
- Adams gets a back full of railing, courtesy of a Malenko Irish Whip
- Now back in the ring, Malenko chokes out Adams with the boot
- Even with the heat machines running, you can hear the crowd chanting "BORING", and I heartily agree.
- Adams gets his fat butt off the ground, and does a sunset flip on Dean-o for a 2 count.
- More punch-kick-punch-kick stuff..*sigh*
- Irish Whip, and Stink-o Malenko lands a nice spinning heel kick.
- Cloverleaf attempt is thwarted by a small package by Adams for a 2 count..
- Back Drop by Adams..2 count.
- Asya and "Trouser Snake" Saturn come out.
- With the ref distracted, Saturn lands a forearm to Adams' back.
- Huge suplex by Malenko, which leads to the Cloverleaf, and an Adams tap-out.
- YOUR WINNER: Dean Malenko via Texas Cloverleaf.
- Afterwards, Saturn grabs the stick, and yaks about not getting respect from the fans.
- Saturn talks about the Revolution becoming their own country.
- Saturn: "In our country, Happy Hour Lasts from Noon to Midnight!" Hudson: "That doesn't sound too bad..."
- Malenko gets on the mic and tells the fans to stick it.
- Pretty bad match on both ends..Both workers mailed this one in.
We see the same clip of Brian Knobs and Fit Finlay in the woods from Nitro..
Tank Abbott and Meng doing some generic brawling during Nitro..Seriously, I don't feel too bad, after looking at Tank Abbott's gut..
Match #4: Dave Burkhead vs. Meng
- Oh crap..Burkhead is one of those wrestlers that makes me hope for a squash by....
- ...MENG! Whoo!!
- Headbutt by Meng, and an elbow to match.
- Lots of no selling by Meng, but Burkhead isn't even trying to make the punches look good..
- Meng lands a "WHOO" worthy chop that leaves a big red mark on Burkhead's chest..
- Hudson talks about Tank Abbott, and calls him a dangerous, deadly man...Yeah, and so was Roadblock..with a gut to match...Sheesh..(I like Hudson, but man, this ranks up there with putting KISS over..)
- Belly to back suplex from Meng.
- Burkhead tries to land a crossbody on Meng, but Meng simply catches him, and slams him down.
- It's Tongan Death Grip time, and the three-count, is academic.
- YOUR WINNER: Meng via Tongan Death Grip.
- Short and sweet..I can deal with that...*grin*
Starrcade Promo: Bret Hart vs. Goldberg promo..Nicely edited package.
Back in the studio, Mike/Scott talk about Sting/Package situation, and rolling into a package (no pun intended) about Sting/Package/DDP, including the attacks on Thunder..
Hennig/Roddy Piper recap/promo
Match #5: Mark Jindrak vs. Chuck Palumbo
- Hmm..first I've seen of Jindrak..Tall, needs a little weight, but looks to be in good shape..
- Crap..I've seen Chuck Palumbo..GAG me..
- Palumbo hits a Springboard Dropkick on Jindrak to start..not bad..
- Whip, shoulderblock by Jindrak..another whip has Jindrak on the receiving end of a powerslam..
- Left forearm smash and elbow by Jindrak.
- Palumbo lands a HORRENDOUS dropkick..As I read a while ago in a Nitro report, "It was Watts-ian in its suck." That would fit here..I'm surprised the ref and Jindrak didn't fall down laughing..
- Jindrak lands a nice suplex that puts Palumbo outside the ring.
- Jindrak whips Palumbo into the railing, and tosses him back in the ring..
- Sweet tilt-a-whirl backbreaker by Jindrak..2 count.
- Very nice springboard clothesline by Jindrak..another 2 count..
- Here's where it gets bad..Palumbo blocks a suplex, and lands one of his own, and starts hulking up, and beating his chest, like he's friggin' Tarzan..
- This is so sad..
- Palumbo lands a weak bulldog, and goes up top to hit a flying elbow.
- Jungle kick my @$$...Ugh...3 count.
- YOUR WINNER: Chuck Palumbo via Jungle Kick
- Jindrak looked pretty sharp, but Palumbo needs to go back to whatever jungle he came from..I sure could have used a Meng run in right there..
Starrcade Promo: Jeff Jarrett/Dustin Rhodes Promo.
1-800-CALL-SOMEONE WHO CARES Road Report
Starrcade Promo: Oklahoma/Dr. Death/Vamp-pie-row (in Oklahoma-ese)
Match #6: Devon Storm (Crowbar) vs. Booker T.

- Booker answers with a HUGE reverse heel kick..
- Booker locks up with Devon, and Storm answers with a nice jawbreaker..
- Storm distracts the ref, and lands a nad-breaker...
- Storm sends Booker outside, and works BT over, including a fireman's carry, and drops BT on the rail!
- Storm moves the stairs, but BT regains control, and whips Devon into the stairs headfirst!
- Another reverse heel kick by BT..Axe Kick, Breakdance..
- Storm decides to forget this, and tries to leave, but the lights go out....DONG....guess who?
- Yep, it's Midnight, and she tosses Storm back in the ring, and Booker T. lands a HUGE slam, and gets the 3 count.
- YOUR WINNER: Booker T. via pinfall
- Great match..High workrate, and Storm looks better and better..
- Post match, BT and Midnight celebrate in the ring, while Hudson and Tenay theorize on why Stevie Ray hasn't joined in this par-TAY..
After the ads, we come back with a package about Chris "Champagne" Kanyon, showing
CCK's victories over Bam Bam and DDP
- An interesting thought: With Kanyon now calling him self CCK, all 3 Triad members have 3 letter nicknames..DDP, BBB (or Triple B, as DDP called him), and CCK...Weird!
- Match #7: Sonny (GQ) Siaki vs. Disco Inferno
- A graduate from the Power Plant, GQ is a relative of Prince Iaukea, so he should know hod to job..and he will do the job to..
- ..Disco Inferno.
- Hudson: (looking at Disco's outfit) "How many naugha's had to die to make that outfit?"
- Lock up, big slams from GQ.
- The 2 trade armbars, GQ whips Disco and lands a nice elbow.
- Disco traps GQ in the corner, and lands a series of kicks.
- Disco on the second turnbuckle, and lands that flying elbow of his.
- Disco telegraphs a backdrop, and is met with a axehandle from GQ, and gets tossed outside..
- Nice running lariat by GQ outside the ring.
- Irish whip, and a spinning neckbreaker by DI.
- Atomic drop by the mighty DI, and a 2 count.
- Hangman's Noose by GQ! 2 count..
- GQ gets whipped to the ropes, gets kicked, and is met with the Stone Cold...er..Last Dance.
- 3 count
- YOUR WINNER: Disco Inferno via the Last Dance
- Not a bad match..Disco is fairly predictable, but was still a fun match, and Disco was over big..
- Highlights from Nitro: The PTB vs. Mr. 1derful/Arn Anderson/Zybszko
- Starrcade Promo: Nash vs. Sid Vicious
- Match #8: Al Green vs. Sid Vicious
- Oh, how the former world title contender SLASH Master Blaster has fallen!* (*denotes sarcasm)
- Nice lighting for Sid Vicious, and of course, he gets a huge pop..
- Vicious inserts his foot into Green's mouth before the bell!!
- GIGANTIC chokeslam on Green!
- Since I don't get Goldberg on WCWSN, here we go:
- Powerbomb, Splat, Pin.
- YOUR WINNER: Sid Vicious via Powerbomb
- Wow..Vicious is WAY over, and to be honest, Vicious worked the crowd very well..
- Quick match for Green..the way all of his matches should be. *grin*
- The Good:A very solid show, overall..Most matches had a good workrate, and for a WCW Crowd, they were.....alive! Plus, plot development (Stevie Ray No-Showing), continuing feuds and shocking wins (Armstrongs/Regal-Taylor), and some good performances from the newcomers (Mark Jindrak, Devon Storm) made for an exciting show.
- The Bad: Malenko/Adams match was pretty bad..Also, as much as I like Scott Hudson, he and Tenay don't fit together well..Both seem to want to do color, or play by play, and it's not a very good mix..
- The Ugly: For the love of GOD, get rid of Chuck Palumbo..Or send him to the Erik Watts school of dropkicking..God, that was awful..
- Thanks to Bill for the chance to report! I'm Dave, and I'm outta here! God Bless! Send any comments to me at: davewalls@bigfoot.com, or stop by my website at http://www.davewalls.net.
- Thanks again!!
