WCW Worldwide - Saturday, 4/8/00
-
I think I just might be the only one working here this week.
-
Lucky me.
-
But, on the other hand, that makes this report the most read one of the
week, for the first time ever.
-
The announcers this week are Bobby Heenan and Scott Hudson.
-
What do you THINK is the first thing they're going to talk about?
-
Hudson and Heenan put over Russo and Bischoff, and them not getting along.
-
But first, a preview...
-
Tony S and Mike Tenay are at ringside.
-
Chuck Palumbo vs Fit Finley.
-
"XS, Lane and Rave, will taste...face the Villanos"
-
I don't even want to know.
-
Hugh Morrus vs Norman Smiley
-
David Penzer talks to Hugh Morrus
-
Apparently, Gene was out getting a cold one, so we have the ring announcer
as interviewer.
-
Hugh calls himself and Penzer the Siskel and Ebert of Worldwide.
-
Penzer: "Who am I?"
-
Hugh: "The dead one."
-
Anyway, Hugh's on a roll. He beat Smiley on Nitro, and now he's going do
it on Worldwide.
-
Hugh: "David, what kind of roll am I on?"
-
Penzer does not say "Onion", unfortunately, and sticks to "A winning roll."
-
Hugh's more focused now, 'cause he's laughing on the inside, and not on
the outside as much now.
-
More talk about Eric and Vince.
-
Local Spring Stampede ad.
-
I'm still looking for free tickets.
-
Not looking hard, but looking.
-
They're just naming names now, not matches.
-
I like how they pretend that saying The Wall will be there is going get
me to spend money on a ticket.
-
Ready to Rumble talk.
-
Scott Hudson talks about the big opening weekend it did, last weekend.
-
Bobby talks about the long lines to get into the movie.
-
Funny thing, it didn't open till yesterday.
-
I don't say this often, but they're morons.
-
Or whoever told them to say that.
-
Speaking of such, let's take a look at the Wall and Hogan from Nitro
3/27
-
Heenan encourages Vampiro to turn on Hogan, before Hogan turns on him.
-
Heenan's fired up.
-
Trying to get back on Nitro?
-
David Penzer talks to Fit Finley
-
Finley talks about facing one guy when he was starting out, 14 years ago, and having a really bad match, where he got beat up bad.
-
He's going be that guy for Chuck Palumbo tonight.
-
Bif Naked's "We're Not Going To Take It" music video airs.
-
Heenan talks about a possible date with Bif Naked.
-
After we see it again, Hudson again talks about how the movie debuted last week.
-
Nope.
-
Heenan: "Look, I'm no dummy, you're no dummy..."
-
Hype of Nitro April 10.
-
More hype for April 10th.
-
You know, in the short term, if they fall on their face, it's going be funny to laugh at.
-
But then, realizing that WCW will be a whole truckload of trouble, it won't be so good.
-
Chuck Palumbo vs Fit Finley
-
Wow, someone brought a Chuck Palumbo sign.
-
Uh, why?
-
And why to Thunder, and not WCWSN?
-
Plant?
-
The announcers put over Palumbo as a huge future star.
-
They talk about him holding his own against Scott Steiner.
-
I don't quite remember it that way.
-
At any rate, Tony starts talking about how Fit Finley will be a tougher challenge.
-
Finley's all about teaching respect to the younger wrestlers, like Vampiro and Brian Knobbs, according to the announcers.
-
They circle, lockup, headlock by Finley, arm bar, headlock, takedown, back to his feet with the headlock still on, then a snapmare.
-
Finley off the ropes with a clothesline, ropes again, Palumbo drops to the mat, Finely under the leapfrog, and into the atomic drop.
-
Palumbo with a dropkick.
-
Finley back up with a punch, whip, reversed, dropkick, but Finley holds on.
-
Finley with a sitdown splash, for a 2 count.
-
Finley with a stiff kick to the back, and then throws Palumbo to the outside.
-
Finley rams Palumbo into the ring apron, then rolls back in.
-
Palumbo rolls in, punch, corner whip, Finley tries to charge in, but ends up hitting the ringpost as Palumbo moves.
-
Palumbo rolls him up, for 2.
-
Palumbo with punches, corner whip, powerslam. Delayed cover, 2 count.
-
Finley begs off, but Palumbo grabs his legs, while Finley holds on to ropes, and loses his grip in midair.
-
You know, if Fit Finley and Ric Flair ever had a match, you'd probably know 75% of the spots ahead of time.
-
Palumbo goes to the top, but Finley moves out of the way of the flying cross body.
-
Finley with the forward roll slam, and that's three.
-
Your Winner: Fit Finley
- Wow, Palumbo's got a Vampiro-like push going there.
-
XS vs Los Dos Villanos (IV & V)
-
I hear Villano III lost his mask recently
-
I wonder, with the new management, if the other two are far behind.
-
Nah, they'll probably be forgotten like always.
-
Tony and Mike talk about Vince and Eric.
-
Tony hypes it up as the biggest Nitro ever.
-
The Villanos music transitions so well to XS's, I don't notice it.
-
Hey, that guy has signs again!
-
"I am Rave, He is Lane"
-
"We are XS"
-
"XS Rulz World Wide!"
-
XS takes time to shake hands with some screaming girls.
-
I wonder if they know that they're "rats", according to those two.
-
I wonder if they even know who those two are.
-
Of course they do. Rave has signs!
-
Rave's needs to show me the reverse side of a couple signs...
-
"There's No Stopping Us Now"
-
"We Love Texas"
-
Okay, they're faces tonight.
-
Mike talks about the Villanos having proven themselves in WCW.
-
Lane and IV start off.
-
Lockup, Lane with an armbar, Rave flips out, punch, punch, chop, headlock.
-
Off the ropes, duckdown, Lane with a 'rana.
-
Lane with a tag, Rave in, double corner whip, Rave with the elbow, and then he gets down on his knees for Lane to jump off, on to IV.
-
Eh, no, you aren't the Hardy Boyz.
-
Doesn't look as good as when they do it.
-
Rave puts IV on the top, and there's a bulldog off the top.
-
Rave with some X's, cover, 2 count, before V breaks it up.
-
Lane back in, double whip, Lane with a low shot, Rave with a knee lift.
-
Lane with a dancing legdrop, Rave covers for two.
-
So, they're Too Cool too?
-
Rave with a whip, reversed, V gets a knee to back, and IV hits a spin savate kick
-
IV does a martial arts pose, and reminds me of Kwang.
-
Tag to V, double whip, V with a kick to the midsection, and a running two handed face smash.
-
Cover, Lane breaks it at two.
-
V wit a chop, whip, IV pulls Rave out, and sets him up for a baseball slide to the face.
-
IV and V lift him up, and ram him into the turnbuckle. That looked cool.
-
Tony talks about all the programs being new, "even this program."
-
Villanos stomp a mudhole into Rave, then V with a choke.
-
IV back in, holding V for a guillotine legdrop on the bottom rope.
- V puts Rave in a half surfboard, I guess.
-
I remember when Tenay used to be helpful in naming this moves.
-
V back in, double corner whip, one misses the charge, the other gets a
DDT.
-
Hot tag to Lane. Dropkick. Punch, flapjack IV on to V.
-
V gets clotheslined to the outside by Lane. Rave powerslams IV.
-
Rave gets IV a vertical suplex while Lane comes off the top with a cross
body.
-
That's good for the win.
-
Your Winner: XS
-
Holy crap, the Villanos punk out Lane and Rave!
-
Rave's knocked down. Lane gets thrown under the bottom rope, to the floor.
-
Rave gets an axe-handle off the apron to the floor, then a double headsmash
into the commentator's desk.
-
V with a chair..and a weak shot on Rave.
-
Los Villanos celebrate in the ring.
-
That was unexpected...but a lot of fun.
-
Hey, if we get the Villanos doing that to, let's say, the Harris Boys,
I'll like the new Nitro.
-
Local Spring Stampede ad.
-
Hugh Morrus vs Norman Smiley
-
Norman is in a Houston Astros shirt, and football pants.
-
Hey, if Mike Awesome is really coming to WCW, does he get Hugh's music?
-
Hugh gets mic time!
-
"What you are about to see, is the match of the millennium. The Wiggle...versus the Giggle!"
-
Lockup, headlock by Smiley.
-
Smiley with an armbar, but Hugh reverses it into a whip. Smiley tries for
a hiptoss off the ropes, but ends up just pushing Hugh into them, and he
comes back with a shoulderblock.
-
'Laughing man' elbow. And another. He asks the fans, and he does one more.
He asks again, and he goes to the apron.
-
Stall, then he goes to the top, and misses elbow drop #4.
-
Norman with the Big Wiggle from behind.
-
Hugh doesn't take kindly to it, and gives Norman a back elbow. Punch. Punch.
Whip, head down too soon, Norman with a punch, then a double underhook,
but he can't get Hugh up.
-
Hugh with a backdrop, but Norman holds on and turns it into a sunset flip.
That's good for 2.
-
Norman with a punch, punch, whip, reversed, Norman ducks the clothesline
but gets hit by a back elbow.
-
Hugh calls for the No Laughing Matter, stalls, and starts climbing the
ropes.
-
Tony: "The No Laughing Matter, that reverse moonsault"
-
Tenay doesn't correct him.
-
Norman catches him, from underneath, and gives Hugh an electric chair suplex.
2 count.
-
Norman with the a small Wiggle, but gets a clothesline.
-
Hugh now quickly to the top, and the No Laughing Matter connects. 3 count.
-
Your Winner: Hugh Morrus
-
Hudson and Heenan wrap it up.
-
More Bischoff/Russo talk.
-
And that's it.
-
Next week should be painful.
-
They have no matches on tape.
-
They have no Nitro/Thunder clips to show.
-
I fear the hour version of what I've seen elsewhere.
