Thanks to everyone who's sent in their ideas for greatest wrestling moments.
They've brought back some great memories and in many cases I've read some
great stories that I haven't heard about before. I've listed the ideas
I've received on my page and have started to expound on them. Some of it
should be up within a couple of weeks.
Most responses I got listed Chris Benoit winning the WCW World Heavyweight
title as one of their moments.
I know that's on my list, too.
Trivia Question: Who won WCW's 1996 Battlebowl battle royal at Slamboree
to earn a World title shot, but never received his shot because he cheated?
(answer at end of report)
Jarod (I don't think it's that Jarod) writes:
I think with Russo's inability to slowly run
a story, Stacy Kiebler's child will be born live on Nitro this week and
will begin actively competing in WCW right after Halloween Havoc.
He/she is currently penciled in to main event
Starrcade.
My friend Melanie went to Nitro last Monday. She wrote to tell me that
she actually touched Goldberg. Congratulations, Mel.
We start out with a review of Nitro.
Tony Schiavone doesn't know who the World champion is.
We're were in Wilkes-Barre, PA tonight
last night.
Match #1: Disqo (w/Duck) vs. Konnan
Disqo comes out to his old music and has Disqo Duck.
Disqo's stealing Konnan's catchphrases.
Disqo's just talking.
He mentions his new partner.
He fires the Filthy Animals.
He calls out his new partner, but the Filthy Animals' music plays instead.
Konnan comes out and he's angry.
I guess Konnan and Disqo are wrestling.
My rhetorical question from last week about whether or not K-Dawg is a
good wrestler is about to be answered.
They do some moves, but it's like the "wait for the interference" style
moves.
Some Bald Dude comes out and beats up on Konnan.
Disco hits the Chartbuster for the win.
Your Winner: Disqo.
The bald dude is "Das Wundersuck" Alex Wright.
Rey and Juvi come out and beat down Disqo and Alex.
Mike Sanders is outside The Cat's office, then goes in.
Miller's not in, so Sanders puts his feet up on the desk.
Doug Dillinger tells him he can't be there, but Sanders produces a note
that says he can.
We come back and the Thrillers are in the Commissioner's Office.
I guess Sanders is the Commissioner for the night.
I can't really tell because my roommates are talking rather loudly about
something else.
They're vacating the WCW Useless Hardcore title and setting
up a tournament for next week.
Apparently Norman Smiley didn't show up tonight.
Scott Steiner's beating up security guys in the back.
Steiner beats up Disqo Duck.
Hugh Morrus and Wall are talking.
Jeff Jarrett goes to the ring.
Jarrett's talking tonight.
He's talking about Sting's interference on Monday.
He says Sting has lost it, has no heart, no desire, and is finished.
Lex Luger is shown in the crowd.
Jarrett wants to give Luger a mic.
Luger is going to explain something.
Luger talks about not being allowed on TV.
Luger acts like that's a bad thing.
Luger regrets helping Russo on Monday.
He says he made a big mistake.
Jarrett said that he just sucked up to the boss on Monday.
Gen. Rection comes down to the ring.
Remember when I used to refuse to call Hugh Morrus "Gen. Rection?" Me neither.
Hugh forgives Luger.
I smell a swerve.
Lance Storm runs out, clips Rection's leg, then Jarrett and Storm beat
on Luger and Morrus.
Hmm. No swerve. Must be coming later.
We'll be getting a "shoot" interview tonight with Vince Russo.
Didn't they already show a Russo interview a while back?
It's a "shoot" interview because every time I see one, I say, "Shoot. We
could be seeing a match right now."
Rection and Luger are talking in back.
Luger says he doesn't work there, but they're having a match anyway.
The Thrillers are still in the Commissioner's office.
They've been watching footage of Jindrak and O'Haire winning the Tag Team
titles the whole time.
Leia Meow comes in and Sanders expresses his displeasure for the goings-on
last Thunder.
Mean Gene is with the Filthy Animals.
Juvi suggests a best-of-five series against Rey Misterio Jr. for number
one contendership.
They're wrestling again!!!!! Tonight!!!!!
Match #2: Sgt. AWOL vs. Johnny the Bull in a first round Hardcore Title
tournament match.
This is a semifinal match.
They say that the main event is Jeff Jarrett & Lance Storm vs. Gen.
Rection & Lex Luger
It will be a non sanctioned match because Luger's not a part of WCW.
Our Patron Saint wonders why Doug Dillinger didn't kick Luger out of the
ring if he's not with WCW.
Wall and Johnny whack each other with sticks for the first part of the
match.
Outside the ring, The Wall puts a garbage can on Johnny's head and kicks
it a couple of times.
AWOL sets up a table in the ring.
AWOL tries to pull Johnny back, but Johnny uses an object to hit him.
Johnny gets chokeslammed through the table and pins him.
Your Winner: Sgt. AWOL.
Post-match, Scott Steiner's music plays and he nails AWOL.
Steiner tells the announcers he's sick of them always talking about Goldberg.
When Booker's name is mentioned, Stevie Ray confronts Big Poppa Pump and
shoves him.
Then, when Stevie turns his back, Steiner hits him with the pipe.
The Lava Lamp Lounge is next.
The Thrillers are still in back watching their match.
Stevie Ray is with a trainer.
Stevie says he's OK.
The trainer argues with him, but the trainer's wrong because Stevie's always right.
Stevie turns to the camera and challenges Scott Steiner anytime, anywhere.
That was cool.
Mike Awesome is on his ugly couch.
Midajah is his guest.
They both sit on the same couch.
When Awesome finds out Big Poppa Pump is in the house, he scoots away.
Then when he finds out Big Poppa Pump is in back, he scoots closer.
When he finds out there's no monitor, he scoots even closer.
Leia Meow comes out and slaps Midajah.
The girls fight amongst themselves until Awesome says there's enough of him to go around.
The girls hit Awesome below the belt, throw him over the couch, and continue their brawl.
The set is once again completely destroyed.
"Security" breaks up the brawl.
Awesome: "At least I still have my crystal ball."
Then, he drops that and acts frustrated even though it didn't break.
Crowbar walks in the arena and finds Jimmy Hart.
Crowbar wants to know where Daffney is.
Jimmy says she and Ozzy are on their way to Australia.
It would be kind of funny if when they returned, they brought the Bushwhackers with them.
I don't dislike the Bushwhackers in the same sense that I don't dislike
Hacksaw Jim Duggan. They really can't wrestle all that well, but I loved
watching them when I was ten.
Mean Gene is in back with Scott Steiner and Midajah.
Steiner accepts Stevie Ray's challenge.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan is with Chad something-or-other from WCW.com.
If we tune in to WCW.com now, we can once again find out why Hacksaw turned
against America.
Match #3: WCW World Tag Team Champions The Natural Born Thrillers (Mark
Jindrak & Sean O'Haire) vs. Team Canada (Hacksaw Jim Duggan & 100
Kilos and Under Champion Elix Skipper).
One of these things is not like the other.
My computer went out during this match, so I'll just have to do a Worldwide-esque
"Long Story Short."
I did record the match, but there's just not much to say.
Jindrak, O'Haire, and Skipper wrestled an excellent match. When Jim Duggan
tagged in, he just used a chinlock.
Duggan went for the three point stance that he used to do (and he did it
VEEEEEEEEEERY slowly).
At the end, Skipper went up top, but Major Gunns knocked him off allowing
O'Haire to hit the seanton bomb.
Your winners: Mark Jindrak & Sean O'Haire.
During the break, Jim Duggan and Sgt. AWOL brawled.
Mike Sanders calls for security, then he walks back and meets up with Elix
Skipper setting up:
Match #4: WCW Cruiserweight champion "Prime Time" Elix Skipper vs. Kronik
in a non-title handicap match.
Sanders says he signed a Cruiserweight title match for himself next week.
He sends Skipper back to the ring for a "tune-up."
The "tune-up" is Kronik.
Skipper plays dead, and Kronik leaves.
Elix gets up when Kronik leaves, then hits a pescado.
They sports entertain a bit and Adams hits the meltdown for a two.
Adams executes the full-nelson slam.
Then Kronik gets the high time.
Clark pins Skipper for the three count.
Your Winners: Kronik.
When we come back, Storm and Jarrett are talking in back.
Storm complains because he couldn't help Skipper in his moment of need.
Match #5: Second match of the Rey Misterio Jr. vs. Juventud Guerrera best-of-five
series.
I'm recording this again.
Tygress joins K-Dawg, Tony Schiavone, and Mike Tenay at the announcers.
The bell rings and they shake hands.
They feel out again.
A little less than last week, though.
Speaking of last week, the move I asked about was a modified Gory Special.
They wrestle a bit, then Rey hits a drop toehold into a move that looks like a cross between a surfboard and STF.
Then Misterio goes for a La Majistral pin.
I learned that one from playing WWF Attitude.
Rey hits a monkey flip and Juvi hits the ropes with his legs really hard.
He rolls out of the ring.
The ref checks on Juvi, Konnan checks on Juvi, and they stop the match.
Your Winner: Either a no contest, or Rey via referee's decision depending on what they want to do with it.
Post-match, the fans boo the decision to stop the match.
WCW Motorsports time.
They show a replay of Juvi's injury.
Match #6: Crowbar vs. Reno.
Crowbar comes out with his ribs taped.
I forgot they're doing Nitro and Thunder from Australia in a few weeks.
This is the other Hardcore tournament match.
Reno goes for Crowbar's ribs through punches and kicks.
He hits Crowbar in the ribs with a garbage can lid.
AWOL apparently needed 20 stitches after the Hardcore match.
Crowbar with a Northern Lights suplex for two.
Reno attacks the ribs some more and hits a belly-to-belly overhead suplex.
Crowbar takes the advantage and throws a garbage can into Reno's face.
Crowbar with a scoop slam.
Crowbar nails a springboard somersault legdrop.
Crowbar hits Reno with a kendo stick and then a baseball bat.
Reno goes outside and Crowbar hits him with a baseball slide.
Crowbar with a splash from the apron to the floor.
They go to the announce table.
Crowbar gets a table and takes a long time setting it up.
The announcers say that Juvi has a hyper extended knee.
WCW's web site says that it's a groin injury and not a serious one.
Crowbar puts Reno on the table and then goes into the ring.
The table is only up on two legs because it's broken.
Crowbar hits a pescado through the table.
An excellent move.
Crowbar gets a ladder.
Reno is getting up.
For some reason the ref is counting Reno out in a falls-count-anywhere match.
Crowbar climbs back in.
Reno gets back in and hits a T-bone suplex for 2.
Crowbar with a Mindbender.
Johnny the Bull comes in and trips Crowbar allowing Reno to hit the Roll of the Dice.
Johnny and Reno double team Crowbar.
They take the tape off Crowbar's ribs and hang him over the top rope like Repo Man did to the British Bulldog back in '92.
I sound like my Grandpa when I say things like that.
Mike Awesome comes out for the save.
Your Winner: Reno.
That sets up Sgt. AWOL vs. Reno next week for the Hardcore championship.
Mike Awesome is talking with Crowbar in the back.
Awesome says he can take care of Crowbar's "chick problems" because he is the Love Doctor.
Vince Russo's shoot interview.
It's Mike Tenay doing the interview.
Russo is wearing a neckbrace.
Russo says he won the cage match on Monday.
#!@#$! Russo is the WCW World Heavyweight champion.
Tenay asks who's next.
Russo announces that he's giving up the belt and will announce his decision on Monday about what will be done with the title.
Russo says that since Goldberg breached his contract on Monday and he will announce his decision regarding Goldberg on Monday.
Russo says he's holding back some information on Ric Flair and if he gets in the way, he'll tell.
I bet the secret is that Ric Flair killed his brother in a fire years ago, but the brother's not really dead.
Russo says that on Monday, Tenay will be in the ring.
Big Poppa Pump is coming up next.
The Thrillers congratulate Reno on his win.
Luger's not on the WCW roster, but he talks to Mean Gene anyway.
He's with Gen. Rection.
Luger and Morrus say they're going to win.
Match #7: Scott Steiner vs. Stevie Ray.
Scott Steiner brings out Midajah.
Stevie Ray comes out to Harlem Heat music.
I don't think anyone's mentioned it here at DDT Digest, but you can tell if it's Booker or Stevie coming out because Booker's music is prefaced with "Don't hate the playa, hate the game."
They do some moves and the fans chant for Goldberg.
At first Steiner has the advantage, but Stevie Ray comes back.
Stevie's still groggy from the earlier attack.
Midajah goes for a cross bodyblock, but Stevie catches her.
Steiner sees it and hits a low blow that the ref doesn't see because the
ref is blind.
Then the ref misses a pipe shot.
St. Stevie's knocked out and Steiner locks on the Steiner Recliner for the win.
Your Winner: Scott Steiner via submission.
In back, Lex Luger and Hugh Morrus are walking to the ring.
Hey! HUGH!!! Morrus is in the main event.
I say HUGH!!! because a few years ago it was tradition while watching
wrestling at my friend Allen's house that if Hugh walked out we yelled
"HUGH!!!"
Another tradition was Chris Benoit Day. We'd just go through the day smiling as little as we could and saying as little as we could. You
gotta love Chris Benoit Day.
Match #8: U.S. champion Lance Storm & Jeff Jarrett vs. Gen. Rection
& Lex Luger in a non-sanctioned match.
Storm says "If I can be serious for a minute . . ." and Konnan says "When
aren't you?"
Storm says that they'll beat Luger and Rection.
We all rise for the Canadian National Anthem.
Well, all of the respectful ones.
We still have that Canadian flag hanging over the TV.
They almost play the whole anthem.
Jeff Jarrett's music interrupts.
Hugh comes out, meaning that "Unsanctioned" Lex Luger gets the last entrance.
Lex Luger, who's not on the WCW roster, gets an entrance.
Luger knocks Jarrett out of the ring.
It's Hugh and Storm to start.
Hugh with a big back bodydrop.
Storm gets a standing sidekick.
Luger gorilla presses Jarrett and hits a clothesline.
They call the forearm "Luger's premeir move."
Yeah, if this were the WWF in 1994.
Jarrett tags in and gets a sleeper on Luger.
Luger counters with a side suplex.
Storm tags in.
Storm stomps Luger's ribs.
Jarrett tags in.
Jarrett and Package get knocked down with double clotheslines.
Storm and Rection tag in and Hugh cleans house.
Hugh with an Irish whip and powerslam.
Hugh goes for the No Laughing matter.
Lex holds Storm down, but pulls him away at the last minute.
Lex racks Hugh, then Storm locks on the Maple Leaf.
Your winners: Lance Storm & Jeff Jarrett via submission.
The Good: Crowbar vs. Reno had some great moments. Juvi's injury
was not serious.
The Bad: The fans booing the decision to stop the Rey/Juvi match.
The Ugly: The way Juvi hit the ropes when he was injured. That just
looked nasty.
