WCW Thunder - Wednesday, October 25, 2000
By King Leo of King
Leo's Wrestling Palace
-
Hi. I'm King Leo. You may remember me from such DDT Digest reports as last
week's Thunder and a Nitro from May.
-
Thanks to everyone who helped me figure out that STF stands for Stepover
Toehold Facelock and that Booker T was Kole and Stevie Ray was Kane in
Harlem Heat.
-
One helpful hint that I recieved is that we can remember Booker T was Kole
because Kole has an "O" in it as does Booker; also Stevie Ray has an "A"
as does Kane.
-
DDT Digest: Providing you with not only useless wrestling facts but clever
ways to remember them.
-
A few weeks ago I bought an old WCW video called New Blood on the Block
from 1993 that I promptly forgot about. It's about the young WCW stars
of the time such as Brian Pillman, Van Hammer, Johnny B. Badd, 2 Cold Scorpio,
and Scotty Flamingo. There's some great stuff on the video such as a look
at the Hollywood Blonds--Steve Austin and Brian Pillman. The real treat
is highlights from a match that 2 Cold Scorpio won one second before the
time limit ran out against Chris Benoit.
-
Trivia Question: By what name is former WCW star Scotty Flamingo
known today? (answer at end of report)
-
I apologize for a few glitches in last week's report. I think it was a
result of things being messed up when I uploaded the file to my e-mail
account.
-
It was really Steve who asked about the STF. None of my roommates really care.
-
Hulk Hogan's not on the Thunder commercial anymore, but Bret Hart still
is.
-
We start with a look at the scheduled matches for Halloween Havoc.
-
Match #1: Hardcore champion Reno vs. Kwee Wee.
-
Reno's the Hardcore champion in case you forgot.
-
A-WALL should be Hardcore champion.
-
Kwee Wee comes out with pink plastic garbage cans and he's covered in Charismatic
Sparkles of Doom.
-
Reno hits Kwee Wee as Kwee Wee enters.
-
The main event is a six-man tag match pitting Sting, Goldberg, & Booker
T against Kronik & Jeff Jarrett.
-
Kwee Wee hits Reno with a metal garbage can lid.
-
Reno uses the lid also.
-
Reno with a kneedrop to the garbage can lid on the face.
-
Reno uses the kendo stick and the lid again.
-
Stevie Ray notes that Reno was not in Australia.
-
Kwee Wee uses the pink garbage can lids on Reno.
-
At Halloween Havoc, A-WALL will wrestle for the Hardcore title.
-
Kwee Wee goes for a table under the ring.
-
Kwee Wee takes too long to set up the table and gets a garbage can thrown
to his face.
-
The announcers say that the Natural Born Thrillers demanded the match due
to Johnny the Bull's injury.
-
They brawl in the crowd.
-
They battle in DJ Ran's 'hood.
-
Reno slams Kwee Wee's leg in the Nitro Girl cages.
-
Stevie Ray talks about the vicious, vicious monkey flip that took Johnny
the Bull out of action.
-
If I wanted to deliberately take a guy out, I don't think I'd use a monkey
flip.
-
Reno goes for the Roll of the Dice, but Paisley distracts him.
-
Kwee Wee rolls Reno into the ring and hits him with a paint tray.
-
Kwee Wee hits a pile driver on the paint tray.
-
Kwee Wee misses a move and Reno hits the Roll of the Dice.
-
Your Winner: Reno.
-
Post-match, Reno hits Paisley with the Roll of the Dice.
-
Reno attempts to suplex Vito through the table, but Sgt. A-WALL makes the
save.
-
I'm really not a big fan of most hardcore matches in WCW, but there was
a certain something about the match I liked, but I can't describe it. It
just had this "presence."
-
Mene Gene is in back with Buff Bagwell.
-
Mene Gene asks Bagwell if he knocked Stacey Keibler up.
-
He says he's just friends with Stacey.
-
Bagwell is rough, tough, and buff.
-
The Thrillers come out to Wolfpac music.
-
Sanders, Jindrak, and O'Haire come out first.
-
Nash and Palumbo come out later. I don't know why.
-
Nash has a cricket bat.
-
Tenay seems bitter that he didn't get to go to Australia.
-
Tenay wonders where Stasiak is.
-
Nash has the mic.
-
Nash says that the Thrillers are the future of the business.
-
Nash says that they're a team.
-
Nash calls out Shawn Stasiak.
-
PerfectShawn comes out to NBT music.
-
Nash asks if Shawn has learned his lesson yet.
-
Stasiak compares Nash to Bobby Knight.
-
Nash says that if Stasiak gets out of line, he'll be SOL.
-
And you know what that means.
-
Nash tells Stasiak to get into position.
-
Stevie Ray says that when he was in school, paddlings were legal.
-
Stasiak leans on the ropes, but that's not good enough.
-
Nash tells him to grab his ankles.
-
Palumbo has a chair.
-
Palumbo puts the chair in front of Shawn's butt so he doesn't actually
get spanked.
-
To recap: Shawn Stasiak is in trouble with the Natural Born Thrillers.
-
They're shooting with Goldberg tonight.
-
It's the last promo for Halloween Havoc.
-
We will see something live that we cannot imagine until we see it live
or something.
-
Match #2: Buff Bagwell vs. M.I. Smooth
-
Buff Bagwell comes out.
-
There's history between Buff (maybe) Daddy and David Flair.
-
His opponent: M.I. Smooth, WCW's answer to Just Joe.
-
In case you care and didn't know, Just Joe lost to the Brooklyn Brawler
on WWF Jakked last week. I suspect Smooth's role with WCW is similar.
-
Bagwell starts out by showboating.
-
Smooth kicks Buff in the midsection.
-
Stevie Ray thinks that M.I. Smooth is responsible for the David Flair situation.
-
Smooth has the early advantage.
-
But Bagwell attacks from behind as Smooth poses.
-
Buff with a two count resulting from a scoop slam.
-
Smooth with a splash.
-
Smooth with a splash in the corner.
-
Smooth attempts another splash, but Bagwell moves.
-
Rollup for two by Bagwell.
-
Smooth with a two count.
-
Bagwell with a DDT-type move.
-
Bagwell hits the Buff Blockbuster for three.
-
And the Blockbuster looks like it should tonight.
-
Your Winner: Buff Bagwell.
-
David Flair attacks from behind, but Bagwell hits a reverse DDT.
-
Bagwell says we'll find out if he's the father at Halloween Havoc.
-
Match #3: The Cat & Ms. Jones vs. "Above Average" Mike Sanders &
Leia Meow
-
The Cat's music brings out Ernest Miller himself.
-
The Cat talks on some guy's cell phone on his way down the aisle.
-
Miller says he hopes Sanders has a partner.
-
Miller challenges Sanders to a mixed tag match.
-
He says Sanders can either choose a female partner or dress one of
the thrillers in drag.
-
Sanders says he's got a partner and it's . . . Leia Meow.
-
He says if she doesn't want to be his partner, it's her job.
-
Sanders and The Cat start out.
-
Cat takes Sanders down with a feliner.
-
Miller rolls Sanders out.
-
Sanders comes back in the ring and tags in Meow.
-
Ms. Jones tags in.
-
Meow has a whip.
-
Meow hits Sanders and rides him like a horse.
-
The Cat rubs a protective cup in Sanders's face.
-
Sanders with a sunset flip.
-
The Cat hits Sanders and both women cover Sanders for the three.
-
Your Winners: The Cat & Ms. Jones
-
The Cat and Ms. Jones dance.
-
The Goldberg interview is next.
-
But first, let's sell the WCW Magazine.
-
Then, let's go to an ad break.
-
Then let's show Mean Gene talks to Booker T & Sting.
-
Sting calls Jeff Jarrett "Little Jeffrey Slappy."
-
Booker T says he's happy to tag with Sting tonight.
-
Schiavone's talking to Goldberg.
-
Goldberg's getting over jet lag.
-
It was a great tour says Goldberg.
-
It was a great tour says Schiavone.
-
Schiavone says that fans treated them like the Beatles at the airport.
-
Goldberg talks about signing autographs on the last night.
-
Schiavone says it was the right thing to do.
-
Goldberg says it was the right thing to do.
-
They talk about the streak that began in September 1997 and ended at Starrcade
over a year later.
-
Goldberg says that the stipulations favor Goldberg because he's got a reason
to win.
-
Goldberg pulls on his ear a couple of times.
-
Schiavone compares Goldberg to Michael Jordan.
-
Goldberg says he's not going to tell us how he'll beat Kronik this Sunday.
-
I bet it involves a spear and a jackhammer, though.
-
Goldberg says that he regrets doing what he had to do to David Flair, but
there's a time and a place for everything.
-
Just like that song: a time to laugh, a time to mourn, a time to
reap, a time to spear and jackhammer David Flair.
-
They talk about Goldberg's book.
-
Goldberg says that he doesn't care if he wins or loses as long as he keeps
his integrity.
-
And they say that wrestling doesn't teach good values.
-
Goldberg's book comes out on November 14.
-
Goldberg: "Buy it or I'll kill ya'."
-
And they say that wrestling doesn't teach good values.
-
Match #4: Vampiro vs. Big Vito
-
Vampiro makes his way out.
-
They show Vampiro's latest adventures in tables, both on the giving and receiving end.
-
I'm thinking of painting my face like Vampiro for Halloween.
-
Here's Big Vito.
-
Aldo mentioned in an e-mail to me that last week they said that Vito was trained by the great jobber Johnny Rodz.
-
Stevie Ray says that if Vampiro beats Mike Awesome at Halloween Havoc, Vampiro deserves the title shot on Nitro next Monday.
-
Everybody else says that Awesome already has the title shot, but Stevie Ray keeps insisting that it's right. Foolish announcers arguing with the
Saint.
-
Vito locks up with Vampiro in the corner.
-
Good mat wrestling to start out.
-
Vito with a fireman's carry takedown for a 1 count.
-
Vampiro looks at the crowd and Vito just watches.
-
Vampiro wins a punch-kick match.
-
Vito gets the advantage.
-
Vito tries to suplex Vampiro to the outside, but Vampiro grabs the rope and lands on the apron.

-
Vito with a double arm suplex.

-
Vito goes back up top for a flying elbow, but doesn't cover, instead opting to execute the "Play to the Crowd Allowing the Opponent to Recover."
-
Vito covers for two.
-
Vito has a sleeper locked on resulting in the ref doing the arm raise thing even though nobody wins with a sleeper anymore.
-
The crowd is chanting "boring." I'd agree that it's slower than most matches, but it's not a boring match.
-
Vampiro goes to the top with a spin kick from the top for two.
-
Vito with a powerslam following an Irish whip bounce sequence.
-
Vito with a legdrop and a cover for two.
-
Vito with a scoop slam and goes to the top for a splash, but Vampiro gets the knee up.
-
Vito goes for a mafia kick, but Vampiro blocks.
-
Vampiro hits the Nail in the Coffin for three.
-
Your Winner: Vampiro.
-
Vampiro's shown a lot to me in his last couple of matches, but he's going
to have to turn it up a notch against Mike Awesome this Sunday for it to
be a memorable match.
-
What is Tom Green doing in Charlie's Angels?
-
George Foreman personally does the closed captioning for Thunder every
week.
-
Match #5: U.S. champion Lance Storm & Elix Skipper vs. Lt. Loco &
Cpl. Cajun
-
Yes! Team Canada (well, the Canadian part and Maj. Gunns.)
-
They talk about the parody I missed.
-
Storm says he's from Calgary . . . Alberta, Canada, where they don't enjoy
humor.
-
Loco & Cajun come out.
-
Chavo leaps into the ring like he did last week, but hits the rope with
his foot so it's not as good.
-
Gen. Rection & Sgt. A-WALL are at ringside.
-
Cajun with a sweet clothesline on Skipper.
-
Lash gets on the apron, but Storm hits him with a very nice enzuiguri.
-
Lance Storm tags in and executes a textbook . . . um, I missed the move.
Sorry.
-
Mike Tenay says that Skipper really didn't play for the CFL.
-
Why would you lie about something like that?
-
LeRoux hits a face jam on Skipper.
-
They both crawl for the tag.
-
Loco hits the tornado DDT that gets saved by Skipper.
-
Jim Duggan comes down with a scruffy facial growth.
-
Rection and A-WALL double-team Duggan.
-
Storm hits a backbreaker on Chavo in the ring.
-
Chavo whips Storm into Maj. Gunns, but Storm ducks down. Gunns hits Chavo
with the flag instead, resulting in a rollup by Storm, but Chavo reverses
it and gets the three count!
-
Your Winners: Lt. Loco & Cpl. Cajun
Great ending! Outside interference marred the match a bit, but didn't
ruin it. It did serve to progress the angle, so I can't complain too much.
As a bonus, the outside interference didn't come into play at the end,
so it's all good.
-
Mene Gene is with Jeff Jarrett and Kronik.
-
Double J says he'll soften up Booker T for Scott Steiner.
-
Kronik says they'll pin Goldberg in the six-man match tonight.
-
They show the same lengthy Halloween Havoc promo they showed last week.
-
Match #6: Disqo vs. Sean O'Haire vs. Rey Misterio Jr.
-
Sign: "I came to see the Boogie Knights."
-
Somebody else spelled "Knights" "Nigts" on another sign.
-
O'Haire has his way with Misterio and Disqo.
-
At one point the announcers talk about how smart Disqo is wrestling tonight.
-
Good three way dance resulting in O'Haire pinning Disqo following a springboard seanton bomb. That was an awesome, awesome move.
-
Your Winner: Sean O'Haire.
-
I hate to trivialize the match like that, but my computer went out and I forgot to save more often. Sorry.
-
Match #7: Jeff Jarrett & Kronik vs. Sting, Goldberg, & Booker T.
-
Jarrett comes down first and takes the mic.
-
Jarrett says that after tonight, the faces won't be able to compete on
Sunday.
-
Kronik comes down.
-
Booker T makes his entrance.
-
Booker talks on the way down.
-
Booker says that Jarrett's a good talker, but he needs to "shut the hell up."
-
Sting gets his entrance too.
-
Not a bad strategy. Wait until the flashing lights cause convulsions on the heels, then pin 'em.
-
Goldberg's still in his locker room.
-
Why can't Dillinger tell him he's on a bit sooner?
-
We come back from commercial, but guess what? We get to see the ENTIRE walk anyway.
-
Apparently the Sting strategy didn't work so they just decided that maybe if they took long enough with the entrances the bad guys would forget they had a match and leave.
-
Big Poppa Pump is in the house for some reason. Nobody's seen him or anything,
but trust us: he's there.
-
Goldberg blowing smoke is one of the coolest things in wrestling today.
-
The heels were patiently waiting outside the ring the entire time.
-
Booker and Jarrett start out.
-
Remember when Booker T lost the T and had to come out to funny music? Didn't think so.
-
Booker with an armdrag followed by a spinning heel kick.
-
Goldberg tags in for the faces.
-
Bryan Adams tags in for the heels.
-
Goldberg knocks down Adams with a clothesline.
-
Goldberg with a slam.
-
Stevie Ray says Goldberg was throwing around a 300 pound man like a 200
pound man.
-
I can throw around 200 pounders just as well as I can 300 pounders too.
-
Sting tags in and so does Clarke.
-
Sting hooks on the Scorpion deathlock, but Clarke reaches the ropes.
-
Booker tags in.
-
Clarke with a DDT following a knee to the back by Adams.
-
Adams hits a piledriver for two.
-
Jarrett tags in.
-
Jarrett with five Punches of Doom in the corner.
-
Booker T with a reverse neckbreaker.
-
Both men reach for the tag, but everyone goes in.
-
Goldberg slams Clarke.
-
Clarke moves out of the way of the spear.
-
Goldberg is bleeding.
-
Kronik hits the High Time on Goldberg.
-
Scott Steiner runs out.
-
Sting with a bulldog on Adams.
-
Stinger Splash!!!
-
Jarrett misses a guitar shot.
-
Sting hits the Scorpion Death Drop on Jarrett for the three count.
-
Your Winners: Sting, Goldberg, & Booker T.
-
Post-match, Steiner beats on Booker with a pipe and gets the Steiner Recliner
locked on. Jarrett has Sting in a figure four leglock, and Kronik is double
teaming Goldberg.
-
The Good: That was a really good show. As a fan, I felt satisfied,
but not really electrified. Lance Storm, Elix Skipper, Chavo Guerrero,
Lash LeRoux, Disqo, Sean O'Haire, and Rey Misterio Jr. deserve a special
mention.
-
The Bad: No WCW Motorsports this week. I had a really good joke,
too. Well, maybe next time.
-
The Ugly: I got halfway done converting the report to HTML when
the editor I was using had a random error and I had to start all over.
But such is the life of a DDT Digest reporter; it's a lonely one indeed,
but vital to wrestling and to the world in general.
