WCW Halloween Havoc - October 29th, 2000
-
Xavier Doom had an emergency come up, so I'm his replacement. I know I said I wouldn't be watching WCW anymore, but I also told Bill I'd fill in if needed so here I am.
Going into this PPV, I haven't been paying too much attention to WCW as of late, so I'm not sure what to expect. I do know whatever WCW gives us tonight can't be worse than watching XPW.
As usual, I write my recaps from a tape which means I'm watching the PPV for a second time. Needless to say, if I didn't like the match the first time, I'm not going to the second time so it gets a long story short recap. That said, let's get to the show..
- Anyone else get the feeling they are desperate for buyrates when the announcers are pleading with you to order the PPV during the pre-show?
- I was waiting for one of the announcers to break into tears while begging me to order a PPV I already ordered.
- "Please! My last paycheck bounced!"
- We go to some crowd shots.
- Then to Pamela Paulshock who asks some fans outside if Goldberg can beat Kronik.

- And out comes A-Wall for the save.
- Officials tend to Konnan.
- Hey, Scott Armstrong is a referee!
- A-Wall sets up a table in the ring while some crew members attach garbages cans full of weapons to the ring posts.
- I guess we get the Hardcore Title match next.
- Match 2: A-Wall vs. WCW Hardcore Champion Reno
- Standard uninspired hardcore match, so it gets the long story short.
- They brawl all over the arena and hit each other with cheap looking weapons and fake computer monitors. Reno takes the match after hitting Roll the Dice on a table.
- Your Winner: Reno via pinfall
- Post match, Chuck Palumbo and Shawn Stasiak join Reno in a 3-on-1 beatdown on A-Wall until Chavo and Lash make the save.
- Backstage, Shane Douglas thanks the Natural Born Thrillers for taking out Konnan.
- It should be noted that Perfect Event was backstage with them wearing street clothes and Reno was also there, despite all three of them just being in the ring.
- They added an "Earlier Today" caption partway through the interview, but Shane said something along the lines of "I just want to thank you guys for taking out Konnan earlier tonight" which means the interview was taped to occur when it was aired, they just didn't realize three of the people in the interview would be on their way to the back when it aired. The "Earlier Today" caption was just trying to cover their ass.
- That's just poor planning.
- Backstage, Kronik tells some officials Goldberg hasn't arrived yet.
- They also say if he does show up, he might be suffering from an injury.

- Douglas and Torrie out first, Douglas gets on the mic.
- He basically asks if Konnan knows when he's had enough.

- Must be the degree of willingness...
- Nevermind.

- He says he'll prove Bagwell was the father.
- He has some doctors with him.
- Match 5: "Buff" Bagwell vs. David Flair in a DNA Match
- Glorified first blood match.
- Buff sucks up to the locals.
- David comes out with a DNA collecting kit.
- Anyone else wonder how you can identify the father of a baby before the baby is born?
- Nevermind.
- It's a Bagwell match, so it sucks, thus the long story short.
- A lot of posing and half assed moves, Flair gets control for a brief period after a low blow.
- Buff nails Flair with a chair, busting him open.
- Bagwell hits a Blockbuster on Flair just as the ref awards Buff the match.
- Your Winner: "Buff" Bagwell via bleeding

- Cat barely makes the 10 count.
- Cat floors Sanders with a kick, then jumps outside to fight with Douglas.
- The ref counts Cat out while he brawls with Douglas.
- Your Winner: Mike Sanders via count out
- So now Sanders is the commish.
- Some officials talk to Goldberg backstage.
- They ask if he's had any dizzy spells lately.
- He said he's had some dizzy spells since Monday, but he doesn't care what they say, he's wrestling tonight.
- Hey Goldberg, you were injured on Thunder, which was on Wednesday.
- OK, now I'm nitpicking.
- Gene interviews Kronik.
- Brian Clark says the APA is about breaking necks and cashing checks.
- Oh and so is Kronik.

- My ban on stupid MIA names covers Hugh as well.
- Hugh says he's doing it for all the C-teamers.
- He then leaves and Chavo says Hugh deserves this more than anyone.
- We cut back to the ring, where trainers are helping Vampiro up.
- Match 8: Hugh Morrus vs. WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Lance Storm and Jim Duggan w/Major Gunns - Handicap Match
- Storm's US Title is on the line.
- Storm gets on the mic and asks if he can be serious for a minute.
- He says Morrus is beaten, he just doesn't realize it.

- Match 9: Jeff Jarrett vs. Sting
- Probably the biggest letdown of the night.
- There really isn't much to recap here.

- A Sting came out from underneath the ring and pulled Sting under.

- Seriously, Goldberg no-sold everything Kronik threw at him and took out Clarke after a spear through a table.
- Seconds later, spear and jackhammer Adams.
- Your Winner: Goldberg via pinfall
- Match couldn't have been longer than 4 minutes.
The Good: Vampiro/Mike Awesome and the Tag Title match were both really good. Steiner/Booker T was good until the screwjob ending.
The Bad: The Hardcore Title match and the mixed tag team match both sucked. Everything else, besides the 2 matches mentioned in The Good were mediocre at best. Would Sting/Jarrett one on one be too much to ask for? Why job Kronik to an injured Goldberg?
The Ugly: A DQ ending to a PPV World Title match? Laaaaaaaaaaaaaame!
