  • We've got TWO questions for Mike Tenay!
  • Chris Walker from Jackson, Mississippi writes:

    I would like to know, with all the young talent, with all the young talent in WC, who do you think has the best chance of being a future WCW World Champion?

  • Tenay responds

    "Most of viewers would think that I would concentrate on a group like the Natural Born Thrillers. And certainly, in Sean Stasiak, in Chuck Palumbo, Mike Sanders, Mark Jindrak, there's plenty of young talent there, especially as far as Sean O'Haire as well as Chuck Palumbo possibly in the future. But I think it's going to be a great 2001 for Team Canada, because in Mike Awesome as well as Lance Storm, those are the two people I'd look to be world champion, and Scott, I think I've narrowed it down, and Lance Storm is obviously a great technical wrestler, a great mat wrestler, so much in ring expertise, but I'm going to have to go with the big man, Mike Awesome. Six foot six, two hundred and eighty pounds, over ten years experience. I've narrowed it down, it's going to be Mike Awesome as my choice as future world champion.

  • Brent Cardy of St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada asks:

    What made you want to become a wrestling announcer and who were your big influences?

  • Tenay: "Let me think about this for a second. I think, like most WCW broadcasters, it was because I was a wrestling fan for so many years. As far as influences go, well I grew up in southern California, and the pre-eminent announcer of the 1950s and 1960s was Dick Lane. Certainly I was influenced by him."
  • Hudson: "Night Train Jim Lane?"
  • Tenay: "No relation to the football player at all. In the 70s and 80s, the proliferation of cable around the country, and we all grew accustomed to the voice of Gordon Solie, the late Dean of all the WCW announcers. So I'd have to say those would have to be my biggest influences. Scott, did I ever tell you how I broke into professional wrestling as announcer?"
  • Hudson: "Not today."
  • Tenay: "Well, it was great, you know I was working in Las Vegas, and happened to be, well, invited to be the host of a radio program. Went from there, it was a national radio show, from there joined World Championship Wrestling. How about, remember in 1994, "When Worlds Collide"?
  • Hudson: "Mmm hmm."
  • Tenay: "What a great PPV that event was. Introduced not only myself, but a lot of the luchadores to World Championship Wrestling."
  • Hudson: (interrupting) "Brent, thanks for your question!"
  • Tenay: (interrupting) "You know, I was thinking back, remember Steve "Mongo" McMichael? He used to be on the Nitro broadcast team, but then it was September of 1996 when I replaced Mongo."
  • Hudson: "Mongo McMichael-"
  • Tenay: (interrupting again): "You know, in addition to this Worldwide broadcast, I'm on Thunder, Nitro, the pay per views. How about those internationals that we do every week as well?"
  • Hudson: (desperately trying to move on) "International broadcasting here at World Championship Wrestling-"
  • Tenay: (interrupting) "So that's it as far as the history books. Now other influences, you'd have to consider Tony Schiavone, our broadcast colleague. I remember when I was just a young child and watched Tony, and obviously he's been a big influence to me as well."
  • Hudson: "A young child?"
  • Tenay: "Yes."
  • Hudson: "Right. So, you've got Jimmy Lenin, Ed Whalen, Barry Richards, who else did you say?"
  • Tenay: "Did I mention Gene Okerlund?"
  • Hudson: "You did not."
  • Tenay: "I would be remiss if I did not mention Mean Gene as well."
  • Hudson: "Let that be a lesson to you fans and viewers of Worldwide - don't ask questions of the Professor Mike Tenay."

  • Since Sting's on the cover, they talk about him returning in the near future.

• It's time for the Professor's Pick Of The Week
  • We're going back to Bash at the Beach around '97
  • Oh, this better not be what I think this is.
  • Tenay talks about Rodman - but he wants to talk about a match up before it.
  • Thank goodness - I was gonna go on a killing spree if we saw THAT match.

• Ric Flair vs Roddy Piper.
  • This match wasn't so great - between the routine spots of the two, you can probably put it together in your head.
  • As usual, I'll send you back to the recap of the match at the time, by James Lawson
  • They show the whole entrances and we go to commercial early on - maybe they've figured out the right way to do this.
  • Nah, we come back and we're clipped ahead.
  • This is the point where that bulge on Ric's back was really noticeable and really ugly.
  • Another clip after Piper steals the knuckles from Flair and hits him with them.
  • The clip neatly takes out Chris Benoit and Steve McMichael running in to interfere, which is smooth but confusing.
    • When we come into the clip, there's obviously been a big spot that just happened, but the viewer has no clue what it was.
  • Showing a match where the guy who's fired beats the guy who's CEO makes no sense though

• Silly WCW thing #122
  • They've replaced Torrie Wilson with Leia Meow in the WCW Magazine ad, where they talk about "the Women of WCW."
  • But in the newer magazine footage (in that same commercial) they show an article about Torrie. 

• Hudson and Tenay hype up our one match
  • We've got a cruiserwieght title match, so Hudson recaps the storyline
  • Tenay says that Chavo cutting ties with the MIA was the best thing he could've done.

• Chavo Guerrero vs Evan Karagias
  • Oh, hype me up for a big match and give me Evan, that hardly seems fair.
  • Hudson drops that the Crusierweight limit is 225 now
  • Chavo walks in the ring and pushes Evan down.
  • Chavo turns and gives the belt to ref Mark Johnson and gets attacked from behind by Evan.
  • Whip into the corner, bounce out, backdrop.
  • Whip into the corner, Evan charges in to a boot, Chavo goes behind Evan and painfully takes him down with a sleeper
  • Evan elbows out, off the ropes, dropkick from Chavo.
  • Exchange of pushes and they battle with punches in the corner.
  • Evan takes Chavo down, now they're rolling around on the mat brawling.
  • This is an odd match.
  • Evan yells at Mark Johnson and Chavo just kills him with a punch to the head.
  • Chop, Chop, chop, hard whip into the corner.
  • Suplex blocked, try two works and Chavo deposits him on the second corner. Dropkick to the head.
  • Chavo celebrates.
  • Chavo kicking Evan down, choke in the corner turns into a boot scrape.
  • Snap mare, chin lock.
  • Evan elbows out, shot to the back from Chavo.
  • Whip, reversed, Chavo slides under, Evan catches him with a big spinebuster for 2.
  • Evan tries to pick up Chavo but Chavo rolls him up, no count, Chavo gets up, clothesline him down.
  • Big back suplex for 2.
  • Chin lock, elbow out quick.
  • Exchange of punches, Evan getting the better and knocking down Chavo twice, then a big atomic drop.
  • Corner whip, reversed, charges into a double boot, top rope flying cross body for 2 by Evan.
  • Corner whip, charge into a back elbow, Chavo charges out into a powerslam, 2 count.
  • Whip, reversed, series of reversals lead into a faceslam.
  • Evan decides to Drive The Mercedes instead of covering. When he does, 2 count.
  • Whip, no reversal into a brainbuster try, Evan falls behind, Chavo reverses back again and hits the brainbuster. Cover for 3
  • Your Winner: Chavo Guerrero (5:15)
  • Chavo's going for the hat trick on 3 Count members this Sunday
  • Evan's so much better than he used to be, you know?
