WCW Monday Nitro - February 19, 2001
WCW Monday Nitro - February 19, 2001
- So, how will WCW re-work Kevin Nash into the storylines after jobbing him in a "loser-leaves-WCW" match? Keep reading to find out!
- Sidenote: I am NOT watching this live. Rather, I got home an hour after the show ended and am watching this through the magic of VHS technology. So, I may gloss over some stuff tonight. However, I assure you that the good stuff will get "air time" while I keep the neglection to the crap portions of the show, should there be any.
- Anyway, we begin with clips from WCW Superbrawl Revenge, including exclusive footage of a "horrible act of injustice," also known as Kevin Nash walking backstage in defeat.
- We go to the ring, and funeral music plays.
- On the FusientTron, a picture of Kevin Nash with the caption "February 18, 2001 R. I. P." Looks like another funeral procession. You sure this is a good idea considering what happened the afternoon before?
- I am, of course, referring to a wreck at the Daytona 500 that claimed the life of "The Intimidator" Dale Earnhardt at the age of 49. I extend my sympathies to the Earnhardt family on the all-too-soon passing of Dale, Sr.
- Anywhoo, back to Nitro... pallbearers bring a coffin to the ring, and the heels walk to the ring in tuxedoes.
- Ric Flair gets on the podium and cuts a fake sincerity promo on Nash then gets nasty.
- Scott Steiner gets a turn on the mic, and pictures of Sting, Booker T, Goldberg and Sid Vicious are aired on the FusientTron with R. I. P. captions.
- Scott talks about how no one puts his hands on his freak. Apparently, Midajah is being written out of the storylines, with a side slam from Nash last night being the reason.

- High Times on Skipper as Mike Awesome looks on. * sigh *

- YOUR WINNERS: Konnan and Kidman via Kid Krusher in 10:59.

- Rick slaps his opponent around and gives Lash a third Spicolli Driver.
- Rick pins Lash in a COMPLETE squash.
- YOUR WINNER: Rick Steiner via Spicolli Driver in 3:27.
- Pointless match, but Rick TOTALLY beat the shit out of the poor kid.
- And you gotta admire Lash. He survived getting snapped in two by Scotty a few years back on WCW Saturday Night and then a vicious beating by Rick tonight.
- That being said, I can live with Rick Steiner at this level if he shows intensity like he did tonight. However, squashing a cruiserweight does NOTHING in the grand scheme of things but bury the loser.

- YOUR WINNER: Diamond Dallas Page via Diamond Cutter in 7:14.

- This was a pretty solid show, overall. There was some crap (Awesome/Clarke, Cat/Buff), but there was some decent stuff (Moore/Knoble, Rick Steiner showing intensity) as well. And the main storyline of the night (heels gloat over defeating Nash, DDP comes out to rebutt) set the tone for the road to Greed (although you can bet on WCW taking flak for its timing with choosing a funeral segment to start the show).
