House Show Results from Peoria, IL, Friday, September 5th
Chad Bohannon from Chillicothe, IL sends in the following house show report:
- Show opened with Ultimo Dragon vs Dean Malenko. Malenko escaped the Dragon Sleeper and eventually won with the Texas Cloverleaf. Well done match.
- Next up was Eddie Guerrero vs. Chris Jericho in a Cruiserweight Title Match. Man, was Eddie drawing some major heat from the crowd. He was doing some good classic heel stuff. Crowd chanted "Eddie sucks, Eddie sucks" and Eddie gets very upset and threatens to leave the ring. Begs on his knees and hides behind the ref. Eddie missed a frog splash and Jericho whipped on the Boston Crab to retain the title. Another well done match at least on Guerrero's part.
- Steiner Brothers vs. Syxx and K-Dawg. This was a quick high impact match. Syxx also drew some good heat. In the end Rick gave Syxx the Bulldog from Scottie's shoulders for the win. Wish I could have seen the Steiners back when they were still physically able to do tilt-a-whirl slams and Frankensteiners all the time, but there were a couple of excellent belly-to-belly over the head suplexes.
- After the intermission, Jeff Jarrett squared off with Chris Benoit. You know I never cared much for Jarrett and find him to be pretty boring on TV, but I got to give him credit he knows how to work the crowd. Jarrett got the win with a small package. Kind of a disappointing match both from Jarrett beating Benoit and lack of high impact stuff from Chris. I was hoping for a better show from the Crippler.
- DDP vs. Curt Hennig. Nick Patrick was ref on this one and for some reason DDP was upset with Patrick the whole match. Hennig won with a small package. After the win, DDP gave Hennig and Patrick the Diamond Cutter and left them laying in the ring.
- Main event time. Kevin Nash vs. The Giant. I been waiting a long time to see this one. I was in the sixth row and when Nash came to the ring first (to different music than nWo music by the way) I was thinking "man this guy is really BIG". Then the Giant hit the ring and I am telling you he is ENORMOUS. Well done match by the two big men. Giant won by DQ when Syxx and K-Dog hit the ring to save Nash from the Choke Slam. The Giant cleared the ring anyway and then gave his Choke Slam sign and big roar. Much more impressive live than on TV. The crowd was into it.
Overall a fun show. First wrestling of any kind to hit Peoria in a year or so. Hope it did well enough at the gate for some return trips.
