House Show Results from Indianapolis, IN, Saturday, September 6th
Ron Koch from Indianapolis, IN sends in the following house show report from the Market Square Arena:
- The first match was Chris Benoit vs. Konnan. This was a pretty decent match. Benoit got a very good response from the crowd and Konnan was drawing pretty good heat. Both wrestlers worked hard. Benoit won by pinfall after the flying headbutt.
- The second match was Chris Jericho vs. Ultimate Dragon. I didn't see any of this because it was my turn to buy a round but I do know Jericho won by pinfall.
- Match #3 was Dean Malenko vs. Eddy Guerrero. Eddy was really drawing serious heat from the crowd. In a screwjob ending that had the ref being hit Eddy won with the frog splash. This match was pretty long and there were several "boring" chants during it.
- The fourth match was the Steiners vs. Hall/Syxx. This match was one of the best of the night. Hall and Syxx do a wonderful job of working the crowd. This match was totally dominated by the Steiners with Hall and Syxx showing very little offense. The match ended with Hall laid out on the outside and the Steiners doubling up on Syxx. The Steiners used the flying bulldog off the top rope for the pin. And as in every other house show, Hall gathered himself and declared Indianapolis nWo country.
- After the intermission we had Ric Flair vs. Jeff Jarrett. This match was exactly like every other one describes in house show reports. After the crowd started chanting "Jarrett sucks", Flair got on the mic and said
"Jarrett what"?. Flair pinned him with a small package when Jarrett went for the figure four. I don't like Jarrett but he is one hell of a worker.
- The next match was by far the worst of the night. It pitted Macho Man Randy Savage vs. DDP in a death match. A death match is over when someone can't get up on the count of 10. Pinfalls do not mean anything
which they announced twice with the ref standing right there. But anyway, they traded blows for awhile until DDP Diamond Cut Savage. But for some reason he went to pin him and the ref counted it. So while DDP was
celebrating and the ref was realizing his error Savage got up and nailed DDP in the crotch area and DDP was done so Savage got the win.
- Next we went from the worse to the best with Nash vs. the Giant. This was an excellent match. You have to see these guys in person to realize how big they are. This was a good match even though you knew there would be no clean winner. The Giant executed a perfect dropkick which I thought was amazing and what I found to be more amazing was Nash bodyslamming The Giant. Anyway, the wrestlers managed to fall outside of
the ring and get themselves both counted out.
- The main event was Hogan vs. Luger for the title. Before the match, Bobby Heenan was announced and he came out to what was proably the biggest pop of the night. He thanked Indy for being great wrestling fans and then announced Luger and Hogan. Boy, I wonder what the chances of the title changing hands at a house show are. This match was pretty much the same as the one on Nitro except instead of Hogan submitting in the rack, Hall and Syxx ran out and got him DQed. Luger did rack all three of them before they ran back into the dressing room.
Overall I thought this was a very good show with almost all of the big names showing up. I have been to over 20 house shows including Wrestlemania and a couple of Great American Bashes and this ranked up there with them.
A couple of side notes:
- The crowd was about 80-20 WCW but the shirts were just the opposite.
- They used the bit at the beginning with throwing things and the kids which did work since nobody threw a thing.
- Chants of "We want Sting: throughout the night like he was really going to show up.
- There was no Debra or Liz.
Tyler T. from Wittenberg University adds the following comments on the show:
- In the Steiner/nWo match, Rick came in the ring and did those "crotch chops" like Syxx does.
- Syxx did the "bronco ride" on Rick, prompting a loud "faggot" chant after the match.
- During the Giant/Nash match, Nash leapfrogged the Giant!
- Also, both men were knocked down. Nash made it up slowly, and around the count of 8, the Giant kicked and flipped up! Incredible!!!
