Shannon K. sends in the following report:
- There was supposed to be a double main event as the Four Horsemen (I thought they were disbanded) took on the nWo. One of the main events was Ric Flair vs Curt Hennig and the other main event was Chris Benoit and Steve McMichaes vs Buff Bagwell and Scott Norton.
- Well, the announcer came out and gave the ususal "don't throw anything at the ring" speech then announced that due to injury to both men, that the Beniot/McMichael team would be taking on Meng and the Barbarian. The crowd booed big time!! They had been promoting the Four Horsemen VS nWo angle on the radio BIG TIME!
- The first match saw Ernest "The Cat" Miller beat Brad Armstrong. It was a decent opening match (kinda slow).
- Then Ray Traylor beat Squire David Taylor. The Squire drew decent heat and Traylor got a lot of cheers.
- Then Rey Misterio Jr. beat Juventud Guerrera. Guerrera wrestled really well and was in charge most of the match. Misterio mounted a comeback and won the match though. (Side note: Misterio didn't give any of the kids at ringside his mask...must just be a Nitro thing).
- Next, Eddie Guerrero beat Dean Malenko. Dean was in charge most of the match but Guerrero won using the ropes.
- Next, Chris Benoit and Steve McMichael beat Meng and the Barbarian. Benoit and McMichaels got a big pop when they came to ring. Then Meng and the Barbarian attacked Benoit and McMichael after the match and left them laying in the ring. (Side note: Benoit and McMichael came out giving the Four Horsemen salute and were announced as members of the Four Horsemen.
- Next the Steiner Brothers beat the Harlem Heat. The Harlem Heat drew a lot of heat. They got on the mike and said that they hated rednecks and all West Plains had was rednecks, and for all of us to sit down and shut up. Rick Stiener grabbed the mike and told them to shut up before someone from West Plains kicked their ASS! As you can imagine that got a HUGE pop. This was really the best match of the night with The Steiners winning via a bulldog from the top rope by Rick Steiner.
- The came the MAIN EVENT.Curt Hennig came out with the nWo music and got a decent amount of heat. Then Ric Flair's music started and the place went wild. Ric came to the ring grabbed a chair and chased Hennig out of the ring. Then Ric grabbed the mike and told Hennig that a little girl over there (he pointed to the crowd) told him that Curt Hennig sucks, and that the guy over there (he pointed to another section) told
him "Nature Boy, give Curt Hennig a good old fashioned West Plains ASS whippin'". The crowd went nuts. As far as the match it wasn't that good really, and the end came when the ref got knocked out and Hennig grabbed his belt and tried to attack Flair. Flair got the belt from Hennig and Hennig jumped out of the ring as the ref came to and disqualified Ric Flair. This was the shortest match of the evening and a really bad ending to a fairly decent card.
- One last thought: As the curtain came up for one of the wrestlers to come out I saw Arn Anderson in street clothes.
