House Show Results from the Hara Arena in Dayton, OH, November 16th
Stephen P. sends in the following report:
- Chris Benoit vs. Yuji Nagata
- Ric Flair/Chris Benoit vs. Curt Hennig/Syxx was scheduled but because of Syxx’ neck injury it was cancelled.
- I was almost disappointed when I saw this on the card. I’m a big fan of Benoit, but with all the matches he’s been losing and with the big push Nagata’s been having...
- Nagata came out without Sonny
- Good match except for the USA chants (I wish people would realize Benoit is from Canada)
- Benoit went for a flying headbutt, but missed. However, much to my pleasure, after a suplex, he got the crippler crossface and the submission.
- Scotty Riggs vs. Steven Regal
- Well, I don’t like either of these guys so I didn’t care who won.
- Riggs came out wearing his eye patch. I tried to start a "Patch" chant to no avail
- Apparently, no one else cared about this one either. "Boring" chants throughout most of the match.
- One fan got in to an argument with Regal and got to have a little talk with security.
- Riggs won with his flying forearm or whatever his finishing move is
- Chris Jericho vs. Alex Wright
- I got to hear Alex’s German in real life. After he was done he said, "You have no idea what I’m saying to you!"
- Alex came out without Debra. I guess the managers don’t work the house shows.
- Someone had a sign that said "Debra Queen of Silicone"
- Jericho won with the Lion Tamer
- Public Enemy vs. Faces of Fear
- Public Enemy came out wearing teal colored jerseys instead of black or white.
- They also brought out their table.
- P.E. was also the heel in this match. They told us we were a bunch of inbreds.
- They also told us that Michigan was going to beat OSU, which didn’t get the response they wanted since about half the people were Michigan fans.
- Rocco told us we’d better not call him chicken. I guess this is new. It was the first time I heard anyone say anything about him being chicken.
- After about 5-10 minutes of P.E. generating "heat" I was about to fall asleep.
- Rocco eventually got the goozle from Meng
- Intermission...the table was taken down
- Diamond Dallas Page vs. Mortis w/James Vandenburg
- I guess I was wrong about managers.
- The usually Mortis match with him getting clobbered.
- Mortis did do one cool thing. He was leaving with Vandenburg, so the ref started the count out. On nine, Mortis ran to the ring, did a headfirst baseball slide, and slid out the other side.
- Page won with the diamond cutter
- Vandenburg got a cutter, too
- Ric Flair vs. Curt Hennig for the U.S. Heavyweight Title
- Well, either Hennig will win or Fair will win by DQ
- Flair got Hennig in the corner and proceeded to pound away.
- The ref (Nick Patrick) got in the way and got an elbow to the face.
- Flair went to check on Nick and Hennig went for the belt.
- Flair took the belt from Hennig and Nick came to.
- Hennig wins by DQ
- Lex Luger vs. Scott Hall
Hall came out to new music. It wasn’t NWO or Wolfpack
Hall did his survey. It seemed pretty even to me
Someone threw a hot dog bun in the ring. Ten minutes later, security closed in on him and escorted him out.
Luger won with the rack
Chris J. from Ohio University sends the following report:
- Match 1: Yuji Nagata loses to Chris Benoit by submission.
- I actually missed the end of this match as I was moving from the last row to the fourth row. I love sweet-talking people.
- Match 2: Scotty Riggs defeats "Every Flight Attendant's Nightmare" Steve Regal. This was an interesting match. Regal went to the outside to take care of a taunting
fan. Doug Dellinger and Nick Patrick both came to assist. Regal got in Patrick's way and was promptly shoved down. As soon as he got back up Dellinger shoved him down. Riggs raised Doug's hand in victory.
- Match 3: Alex Wright submits to Chris Jericho's Lion Tamer. Interesting enough, the crowd was about 75% WCW and the rest nWo. WCW merchandise was outselling nWo stuff by at least 3-1. The reason this is interesting is they announced that nWo Souled Out would happen there on January 24.
- Match 4: Faces of Fear beat Public Enemy when Meng pins one of the enemy while using the death grip.
- The Faces were, oddly enough, the faces in this match.
- PE came out to loud applause but then got on the mic to tell everybody that they were going to kick their opponents' ass like Michigan would Ohio State next Saturday. Not a popular thing to say.
- Match 5: Time for me to mark out, twice. Mortis (Yeahh!) vs. DDP (BANG)
- DDP wins by Diamond Cutter and puts one on James Vandenburg just for good measure. Vandenburg had to be carried out.
- Match 6: Curt Hennig beats Ric Flair by DQ when Flair is caught using the belt. Seen this one before.
- Final Match: Scott Hall submits to Lex Luger's Human Torture Rack.
All in all it was a good show. Alex Wright got a lot of heat and was funny at the same time. The fans always wanted to yell USA, but only got it going in matches involving Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit, both Canadians. I also noticed that there was a Canadian flag in the arena, but no Old Glory. Odd night. I can't wait for another two hour droive
tommorrow in Cincinnati. Look for my sign that says "Hi Danielle", and the "Bret 3:16 - I just Broke your Jaw!" Maybe I can get DDT Digest on there, too.
