House Show Results from Johnson City, TN, November 30th
- The original lineup for tonight's show was:
Steiner Brothers vs. Wrath/Mortis
Ric Flair vs.Curt Hennig
Bobby Walker vs. Steven Regal
Lex Luger vs. Scott Hall
DDP vs. Chris Benoit
Ray Traylor vs. Dave Taylor
Ernest Miller vs. Yugi Nagata
- But despite typical injuries inflicted on WCW wrestlers the show was rearranged. DDP has a kidney injury and will not be able to wrestle. Ric Flair suffered two breaks in his ankle and will be out as well.
- After the announcement that Flair will be unable to participate in the card, Curt Hennig rambles on with his usual bull#$%@ about how he came to Johnson City to fight Ric Flair and now he doesn't have a match. To the well liking of Matt and Charlie, Chris Benoit comes out and makes a challenge to Hennig which received a huge pop. Hennig refuses and takes cover backstage. Now on with the "matches."
- Dave "Fit" Finley over Pistol Pez Whetley.
- Yes you read it correctly. The Pistol is back in action.
- Pez is a trainer at the "Harvard of Professional Wrestling" aka the WCW Power Plant.
- The match would not have been too bad if there were only two wrestling moves in existence, the armbar and the forearm.
- The best part of the match came when we made like Steven Regal although, unlike Regal, we used the men's room.
- That ever intimidating Ernest Miller defeated Yuji Nagata.
- Way to go booker guys (read sarcastic).
- Insert your own jokes for this one.
- Yugi defeats Ultimo Dragon then jobs for Ernest. Go figure.
- "Every Flight Attendant's Nightmare" Steven Regal over Bobby Walker.
- Another winner here.
- No Regal Stretch tonight. Regal wins as he rolls through an attempted cradle by Walker.
- "Hard Work" is watching these "athletes" (see WWF attitude commercial) fight.
- Ray Traylor over Dave Taylor.
- Nothing like Brits trying to rule the South.
- Many white-hooded Tennessee boys carrying Rebel flags supporting Ray Traylor this evening.
- Traylor wins with "Traylor Trash." No, we aren't talking about illegal fan interference.
- "Crippler" Chris Benoit over Curt Hennig for US Title, so we thought.
- By far the best match of the night by Benoit. IMHO the best worker in the business today.
- Many stiff chops by Benoit echoed around Freedom Hall.
- Benoit misses with a flying headbutt and ends up winning with the Crippler Crossface for the US Title.
- During the celebration, Nick Patrick comes out and says that the match was not sanctioned or some bull like that. Not this angle again. I couldn't hear because Matt and I were too busy marking out for Benoit.
- Benoit grabs the mic and says that it's a conspiracy, not just against the Horsemen, but against "generalization." I think he meant civilization.
- Anyway, he tells Patrick in no uncertain terms to place his lips on his gluteus maximus.
- Steiner Brothers over Wrath/Mortis
- Didn't I see this match three months ago at a house show in Knoxville?
- Same old, same old with the Suplex Brothers.
- Steiners win with the top rope bulldog.
- At least it only took Scotty one attempt to pick Mortis up this time.
- Much to my dismay, the Steiners received the biggest pop of the night.
- James Vandenberg did some mic work calling us rednecks. Odd...didn't Vandenberg get his start in Tennessee with Smoky Mountain?
- Lex Luger over Scott Hall
- Hall comes out to my personal favorite rap song, "Ready or Not" by the Fugees.
- Hall does his survey. Huge pop for WCW, but the chants of nWo matched the WCW pop. Scott says, "put this one down for the bad guys."
- Luger can in no way sell a move. Tonight, I decided that Hall is the best actor in the business, both in his interviews and selling moves (Note: Chan thinks Shawn is better}.
- Luger goes for the rack and Patrick is holding Hall's leg so Lex can't fully maximize his hold.
- Hall rolls out of the ring and Lex racks Patrick, YES. Now he puts Hall in the rack and Randy "Beer-Belly" Anderson comes in and rings the bell giving the match to Luger.
- To put it bluntly, the first four matches sucked, but the last two (with the exception of Steiners) made up for it. The crowd was really into it. This is the first show I have been to since 2/26/96 where a Mexican "luchadore" did not compete. I was hoping to see my favorite Luchadore, Juventud Guerrera. We'll have a report on Nitro tomorrow night!
