WCW Thunder - Wednesday, 12/6/2000
- Howdy everyone, once again. I am Big Mike, and this is your Thunder report.
- Time to knock the rust off again for me.
- One thing you can say about WCW in recent times is that they have definitely upped the "hottie quotient." With Pamela Paulshock, Major Gunns, Leia Meow, Paisley, the Nitro Girls et al, the hottie level in WCW is definitely at an all time high in that category.
- Why is it that I cannot get into Scott Steiner? Seems to me like he's all flash and not as much charisma as heels like Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Nick Bockwinkel, and The Yeti (oops, sorry about that one). I just don't enjoy Scott Steiner's character. Apparently, with the way ratings have been jumping when he's on TV, it's just me.
- Now, with a cold Shiner beer in hand and a warm dip of Copenhagen in mouth, on to the show, if you wheel............
- Montage of Nitro with a Starrcade slant to begin the show.
- We are TAPED from Lincoln, Nebraska.
- We begin with "the Nature Commissioner" Ric Flair coming from his car to the ring. Click here.
- Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, and Mark Madden commentating. Doesn't Madden remind you of the Comic Book Store Guy from the Simpsons? Click here.
- Here comes Stevie Ray to the announce booth!
- Cut to the Thunder intro, with Stevie Ray asking Madden why he is in his spot. Madden gets up and leaves, and we have Tony, Mike, and Stevie.
- The jabrones keep talking as Flair comes to the ring.
- Schiavone talks about Booker's win some more! Hudson and Madden also prop up Booker.
- Flair has a huge announcement apparently. Flair says he is a troubled man. Flair says he is going to make two decisions that are for the best of WCW. He says Sid and Steiner are not allowed at Thunder. I guess they were already at the bar on Monday as this was taped directly after Nitro. Flair said Steiner is making his own rules and has gone south on their deal. Flair says that he is stripping Steiner of the World Title Belt! Out comes Mike Sanders. Sanders says Flair is making these decisions out of jealousy and fear. Sanders offers to let Flair come and cry on his shoulder. Sanders says Steiner has a better body than Flair ever had in his seventy-five year career. That's actually pretty funny. Sanders has got a pretty nice cockiness about him. Flair tells Sanders he's getting pretty good, that he's getting his act down. Flair invites Sanders to mock him. Flair repeats that Steiner is suspended and the title is held up. Cut to Double A on the jumbotron. Double A tells Sanders that he'll hand his ass to him. Double A talks about all the people Steiner has beat and says that Steiner has a scary look in his eyes that he's never seen before. He says they know they're going to have to kill Steiner to stop him. Anderson says to leave Steiner out there, because when he goes down, he wants it to be as the top dog. Flair says no one states it as eloquently as Double A, and Steiner is reinstated as WCW champion.
- Backstage, Goldberg is talking to Sarge.
- Back from commercial; Mean Gene is interviewing Ric Flair. Ric restates the fact that Sid and Steiner are off the show. Flair says that Mike Sanders will defend the Cruiserweight Title against Chavo Guerrero, Jr.
- Crowbar finds Daffney and says he has a new outfit for her. Cut to Chavo and Lash speaking. A-Wall cuts in and says he doesn't like Chavo's new attitude.
- Jamie Noble and Evan Karagias vs. Mark Jindrak and Shawn O' Hare
- Jindrak and O'Hare throw Karagias and Noble over the top rope to start, but Noble and Karagias come back with drop kicks.
- Karagias steals the tag from Noble as Noble goes up top.
- Karagias is "hogging the glory" as Schiavone says.
- Jindrak off the top onto Noble, and tags in O'Hare.
- O'Hare with a nice press slam, and Jindrak and O'Hare work over Jamie Noble. O'Hare off the top rope with a reverse head butt.
- This match blows.
- Tilt-a-whirl by Jindrak on Noble. Noble comes back with an kick and tags in Karagias.
- Nice bulldog by Karagias as he drives both men out.
- Karagias and Noble nail Jindrak and O'Hare with ladders.
- Karagias and Noble argue over the ladder and O'Hare nails a double clothesline on them. Jindrak and O'Hare throw both men over the top rope and into the ring.
- O'Hare throws Karagias out, as Jindrak hits a Frankensteiner on Noble. O'Hare finishes him off with the flying head butt.
- Three count. YOUR WINNERS: Jindrak and O'Hare
- Yawn. Nothing was built in this match. No heat. No storyline. There was no point to this match. Might as well have been Iron Mike Sharpe and Barry O vs. Brian Adias and "Rock 'n Roll" Buck Zumhoffe.
- Kronik is on the phone saying they have another job...from the same guy as on Nitro.
- Pamela (yum yum) is interviewing Shane Douglas about the match at Starrcade against Hugh Morrus (General Rection) and the match against Goldberg tonight.
- Bam-Bam Bigelow vs. Sgt. A-Wall for the chance to face Crowbar for the Hardcore Title
- Crowbar and Daffney come in to the announcers' booth. Daffney is wearing bellbottoms and long hair. That's pretty funny.
- Crowbar comes on and says, "Suckas' need ta know." He says, "Hello from the Sunshine State."
- Crowbar is going on and on about "crimson masks," and Daffney says something about A-Wall having a silver fart coming out of his butt (there's a silver sun on the back of his pants). Hey, at least she's not screaming the whole time.
- You know, Daffney sort of sounds like Victoria Jackson from Saturday Night Live.
- Crowbar is pretty funny.
- Oh yeah, the match is going on. A-Wall just nailed Bam-Bam with the trash can lid.
- A-Wall is setting up the table.
- Reversal by Bigelow, and now Bigelow throws A-Wall into the announcer's table.
- Crowbar (very monotonously): "This is carnage. This is a pier sixer."
- Bigelow throws A-Wall into the table set up beside the ring. Crowbar: "We need help from the back. We need wrestlers from the back." That's great.
- "Cheap Pop" Schiavone is wearing his Huskers jersey.
- A-Wall gains the upper hand and throws Bigelow into the rail.
- Damn, Crowbar is funny. He is sounding sort of like a cheap Gordon Solie imitator. "It's a pier sixer. It's a donnybrook. Carnage everywhere."
- Back on the apron, Bigelow grabs A-Wall, but Mike Awesome comes in with a chair and knocks both of them through the table.
- I guess we have a no-contest.
- Well, the match sucked, but Crowbar was damn funny.
- We come back to the Filthy Animals getting out of their car and being attacked by Jarrett and the Harris Brothers.
- The Cat is now talking to the Jung Dragons and Leia Meow (yum). The Cat is informed that they don't understand English. Lame skit.
- Promo for the Sid-Steiner match. I think this was a good match to make. Sid's got some talent, and he's definitely got a presence.
- Mean Gene interviewing Bagwell about the Alex Wright match.
- Team Canada w/ Major Gunns (yum) vs. the Jung Dragons w/ Leia Meow (yum) & The Cat w/ Ms. Jones (yum)
- Lance Storm is ragging on America and the Presidential election before they play the Canadian National Anthem
- The Cat says he is tired of the Canadians' b-tching and he is going to kick their ass and leave some for the Lincoln crowd and let them kick the rest of their asses.
- Kaz Hayashi vs. Elix Skipper to start. Acrobatic start to the match with these two.
- In comes Yang. DDT by Skipper on Yang. Nice move.
- In comes Duggan. Duggan whips Yang into the turnbuckles and finally body slams him. Duggan tags in Lance Storm. Storm works over Yang.
- Yang comes back with a cross body. Storm then rolls Yang into a Canadian Maple Leaf, but Kaz comes in with a kick to the head on Storm.
- Storm and Yang make the hot tags to Cat and Skipper. The Cat throws Duggan out and reverses Skipper's sunset flip attempt. Skipper is whipped into the ropes and Duggan (still groggy) hits Skipper with the 2 x 4.
- The Cat then hits the Feliner on Elix Skipper and it's over YOUR WINNER: The Cat and The Jung Dragons via the Feliner
- The Cat and the Jung Dragons dance to celebrate
- Back again, Lance Storm is interviewed by Pamela Paulshock (yum, yum). Storm tells Duggan to hit the showers for tonight.
- Big Vito and his sister Maria (yum) are arguing backstage about Reno.
- "Above Average" Mike Sanders vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr. for the Cruiserweight Title
- The Natural Born Thrillers are banned from ringside, according to Ric Flair.
- Chavo starts off with a snap mare and a back kick.
- Chavo with a snap back suplex.
- Sanders back with a release pump handle suplex now.
- Good technical match so far.
- Chavo has totally broken away from his "Lieutenant Loco" character.
- Chavo throws Sanders over the top rope, and hits a slingshot over the top rope cross body.
- Outside the ring now, it goes back and forth. Sanders and Tenay mouth back and forth. Sanders takes the belt into the ring.
- Sanders goes up and sits on the top rope. Goes for a tornado DDT, but Chavo reverses it into a Northern Lights Suplex.
- As the referee is turned, Chavo hits Sanders with the belt.
- Chavo hits the brainbuster and it's over! YOUR WINNER AND NEW WCW CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMP: Chavo Guerrero Jr. via the brainbuster.
- Pretty good match. Click here.
- Mean Gene is in the back interviewing Chavo Guerrero Jr. Chavo goes off on the Misfits.
- Cut to Sanders in the back talking s-t about Flair and Chavo and whoever.
- Cut to Disco Inferno and Alex Wright. Disco says he has a plan. Alex says he wants to go out and do it himself.
- Now we have a taped interview by Stevie Ray with Diamond Dallas Page and Kevin Nash. Nash says something about Scott Hall getting let go, but they edit out Scott Hall's name. DDP talks about managing Scott Hall. Both of the men mention Hall numerous times, and every time his name is edited out. They talk about Nash's time in the WWF a little, and Scott Hall some more. DDP says they got together to "have some fun." I think Nash and DDP make a pretty good tag team. Nash asks Stevie Ray why he's there. He says he thought Stevie Ray was gone. Nash says Tenay is trying to push Stevie out. Cut to commercial
- Back from commercial to Lex Luger reading Goldberg's book and sighing.
- Alex Wright w/ Disco Inferno vs. Buff Bagwell
- Schiavone states that The Cat will meet Lance Storm at the granddaddy of all pay-per-view shows, Starrcade
- Disco is on commentary with the boys.
- Buff with a couple of big drop kicks and a clothesline on Wright.
- Nice leg lariat by Alex Wright.
- Wright has the upper hand on Buff with a chinlock and a couple of elbows.
- Wright goes up to the top, but comes down to a boot by Buff. Wright comes back with a jawbreaker.
- Buff looks to be working pretty hard here.
- Buff makes Alex miss on a drop kick. Buff goes up top for the Buff Blockbuster and the win.
- YOUR WINNER : Buff Bagwell via the Buff Blockbuster.
- Big Vito vs. Brian Adams w/ Bryan Clarke
- So, whoever called Kronik to take out Reno on Monday wants them to take out Vito. I guess it's two on one here.
- They're all outside the ring with Kronik working over Big Vito, and finally it'll be Brian Adams for Kronik with Bryan Clarke on commentary.
- Clarke leaves commentary as Vito is working over Adams outside the ring. Adams drives Vito into the announcer's table.
- Adams and Clarke are now both working over Vito outside the ring.
- We're back in the ring, as Vito finally hits a snap suplex on Adams. Vito goes up to the top and hits the big elbow and a two count.
- Vito is down favoring his knee. Adams hits the Meltdown and it's all over.
- YOUR WINNER: Brian Adams.
- Reno comes to the ring, and unsuccessfully tries to fight off Kronik. Wait...here comes Maria, bouncing, to tend to her brothers.
- During the commercial, Reno and Maria helped Vito out of the ring. The Thrillers are giving Reno grief for helping Vito out of the ring.
- "The Franchise" Shane Douglas without Torrie Wilson (damn) vs. Goldberg
- This one should be quick.
- Uh-oh, Douglas has a mic. Douglas says he's pissed off about what happened on Monday. He does work in "all of you low-IQ Nebraska jackasses who can afford TV" saw on Monday what happened. The crowd is chanting something, but it is being edited out. Shane says Goldberg's streak is going to end tonight. They must need to waste some time. Douglas is rambling on and on. Another edited crowd chant.
- And we cut to commercial?!?!?!
- OK, we're back now, as Goldberg comes out. This match, which should be about two minutes, has taken about ten minutes to develop. Tony states that Mike Sanders has booked Reno and a partner of his choice to face Kronik at Starrcade.
- Douglas is outside the ring, facing away from Goldberg and the ref wrapping a chain around his fist.
- Douglas nails Goldberg three times with the chain. Goldberg is down on a knee, but he comes back with a chokeslam.
- Luger is on the ramp with Sarge in the torture rack!
- Franchise capitalizes, but Goldberg comes back with the spear and the Jackhammer and it's over.
- YOUR WINNER: Goldberg via the Spear and Jackhammer.
- Goldberg runs out of the ring as Luger lets the Sarge down.
- And we are out. Dude, they're showing some guy on Ripley's with like spears in his head.
In keeping with DDT Digest tradition:
- The Good: Arn Anderson. You can't tell me there's anyone out there who can cut a promo or get anyone over any better. He built up Scott Steiner and the match at Starrcade like no other. We miss you, Double A.
- The Good (Part 2): I really enjoyed Crowbar on commentary. He used a bunch of inside jokes, but they were funny to me. Click here.
- The Bad: Douglas with a ten minute spiel on the mic before a two minute match. Can you say stretching?
- The Ugly: For the first time, it almost seemed like I was looking forward to the commercials more than the actual show. Maybe it had something to do with the three LARGE beers I had at the local pub before the show.
Side note: I turn it on CNN/SI after the game. They showed highlights of the Dallas Mavericks game, and Fred Hickman called Michael Finley "Fit Finley." Pretty out there reference.
OK, well, anyone want to know what's on my mind as the show ends. Click here.
Well, adios everyone, I am Big Mike, and remember, as Robert Earl Keen says, "The road goes on forever, and the party never ends."
