WCW held a house show in Fresno, CA tonight. The following is my report of the show. There was 7000+ on hand to witness the show of six matches.
- The show began Eddie Guerrero vs. Dean Malenko. This was a very good match going back and forth throughout. Towards the end of the match, Malenko tried a frog splash on Guerrero. Eddie however pulled his legs up in time. Eddie then landed his own frog splash for the win. Eddie played full heel in this match. Its amazing how fast Eddie turned heel.
Eddie plays the part to perfection. He will make a great bad guy.
- The second match saw the Steiner brothers face NWO Japan. The NWO team consisted of Masa Hiro Chono and Yugi (I didn't catch his last name). This was probably the worst match of the evening, but it was still not bad to watch. Team NWO Japan played their parts perfect, inciting the usual "USA" chant. In the end, Rick Steiner laid a bulldog on Yugi for the pin.
- The third match was the most entertaining of the night. Rey Mysterio, Jr. defeated Buff Bagwell with his usual hurricarana. This match was very fast paced and saw Rey do his usual high flying stuff. I can't say enough good things about Bagwell. He plays the ring to perfection. Both these men should be getting bigger pushes. They are two of the best younger talents in WCW.
- After intermission, Ric Flair came out to the biggest pop of the night. Its odd how fast Eddie can turn heel, but Flair is still a fan favorite. In true Flair form, he defeated Syxx, by making him submit to the figure-four. Syxx really isn't a bad wrestler. He just needs to cut down on his ring persona. It's too much.
- In a very entertaining match, "Diamond" Dallas Page defeated Randy "Macho Man" Savage. This match was back and forth throughout. This was also the most brutal match involving many out of ring spots. In the end Savage went for his patented flying elbow. DDP got his legs up in time to nail Savage. DDP pulled him up and, BANG! Diamond Cutter. DDP rolled over for the pin. DDP's pop was a close second to Flair's.
- The main event saw The Outsiders hold on the the tag team belts. Lex Luger and the Giant were DQ'd when the Giant used one of the belts on Nash. At that time, Lex had Hall in the rack, but Hall wouldn't submit. When Nash tried to go after Lex with one of the belts, the Giant grabbed the belt and nailed Nash instead.
- All in all, this was a very entertaining show. Even though the arena wasn't huge, the fan support was much better than a Nitro show. This was well worth the money to go see.
