The TV Title belt is a time limit of 15 minutes. And another thing, the thing with Scott Steiner is stupid, because Buff Bagwell was like Scott's little waterboy, doing all of the dirty work. Now my two favorite wrestlers were BPP and Nash. ( Im not going to call him Big Sexy) But Steiner is pretty stupid to take out Buff. I hope Nash takes out BPP now, then Sting joins the Wolfpac. Or maybe a tag-team match at BATB Sting and Goldberg vs the whole nWo. That would be fair judging by the way they take apart factions.
My question is, how many times are we going to see Scott Steiner turn on Buff, only to see the two rejoin at the next pay-per-view? Honestly, I think Buff would make a good face. His wrestling is average at best, but he has good mic skills and charisma to boot. Plus, he can still play off his injury to get the crowd support. The only stumbling block to this is the number of times Buff has went from heel to face to heel and back. You can ask Bret Hart about what that does to your drawing power.
Admittedly, I'm not a Ric Flair mark. I was raised on WWF (and therefore Hogan), and I got bored with it around 1990 (I was 10 years old then). I only started watching wrestling again about a year ago. At that point, as a University of GA fan, I was the biggest Goldberg mark. And I still am a Goldberg mark.Nitro's tag match had me cheering for both Hogan and Goldberg; Hogan in particular when he started hulking up and no-selling Flair's chops. I think maybe a lot of people are in my situation too.. seeing the old Hulkster come back would be pretty cool, reminding us now college kids of ye days of olde, just the same if I heard some Run DMC/Aerosmith doing "Walk This Way" on the radio. And if anything else, it might have a chance at bringing up the ratings. That's why fans (me included) were cheering for the Hulkster on Nitro.
Aldo, I enjoyed your report and agreed that the ending sucked. But, as a watcher of nitro and raw, just thought I'd let you know that raw did the same thing. The Steve Austin/Mankind v. Rock/Paul Wight match had no ending either.
Nice re-cap!Don't know if you saw any of the old UWF televised matches from the 1980s, but I've actually seen them cut off the endings of championship matches in mid-count! (As in just before a ref counts three for the challenger!) Or maybe that was WCW, too. I just know Jim Ross was involved, calling the match. So Nash hasn' hit rock bottom yet.
But I do think the promotion is turning the corner, just look at who they had out for the last quarter-hour. I think if they were smart, they'd bring back the Iron Men competition and have the same four wrestle round-robin for the belt.
Or better yet, bring back the Battlebowl. Although the last one at Slamboree '96 was rushed (EIGHT first-round matches, three second-round, a final, and three title bouts) it was still fun to watch, IMO.)
After the Jericho and Booker fight, when Jericho was walking to the back he had some guy come and help him walk. You could see he was in real pain. The guy was holding him up some. I hope he is alright.
This is Ben from Troy, MI and Brother Rice(www.brrice.edu). In case you didn't notice, as Flair was entering the arena and before we saw the "It was first blod damn it!" sign, it momentarily showed a sign cop trying to steal a "Flair 3:16" sign from a man on the floor. The man was holding the sign very high and he was tall and the sign cop was short do he had to jump to get it. It looked like that prank where a tall bully grabs a short kid's hat and holds it up above his head so the kid can't get it back. It seemed very funny to me.
We short people know that stunt all too well. :(
All I can surmise is that TNT had divided their Monday night wrestling program into two parts: 9:00-11:00 pm: Monday Nitro 8:00-9:00 pm: Monday NOTro. Maybe separate recaps will be required.
No, thanks. Doing {Pro} for three months was bad enough. :)
I was at Nitro at Cincinnati this Monday. It was pretty good, except for all the commercial breaks. I thought Pinzer was going to get killed. He probably got the most heat all night!!! A few remarks...
- Wally Szcerbiak was introduced - Kind of Funny because the event was held directly across the Ohio river from Kentucky, which is the team Miami plays. More fans in attendance were probably Kentucky fans than Miami.
- The Nitro Party at UC was not as exciting as it would have been. Most students were bummed about UC underachieving tournament showing.
- Did you happen to catch the little slap Disco gave to Ted Turner. While Disco was out showing his video (pretty damn funny), Lame Larry said something mockingly to Disco. Disco's retort was a classic. Something like "What's next... are you gonna' tell Polish Jokes". I'm assuming is was a jab at Ted Turner's recent remarks that were not taken to kindly.
You know what would've been better than not showing the end of the main event? Charles Robinson decking Hogan with a roll of quarters and getting the win for Flair via pinfall. I was freaking pissed when they go off the air showing Gayburgs face screaming his shit. And on another note, if WCW is interested in keeping Jericho don't you think they should have him WIN or even have him get a belt. If they keep having him lose he'll go up north and never look back.
I've thought the same thing about the Jericho situation myself.
You know what we all forget in the midst of the (maybe) Buff and Scott split? It's the end of the classic "Buff and Scott try to find their bus to Spring Break" clips. What a shame...
Early in the Riggs-Flynn match when Riggs got hit and he was momentarily replaced by a cartoon character from the neck up. Damn it, that hurt since I've got some sort of chest infection. I thought I was going to literally chuck a lung trying to laugh and keep the pain to a tolerable level. :)
Haven't read your Thunder recap but just wanted to add my 10 cents worth.
First of all I don't know where everyone was in Lexington, but they weren't there. Because of the lack of people the guys from thunder were stocking up the areas infront of the camera. My brother and I were lucky enough to sneek down to the floor facing the camera, and enjoyed our view even better.
There were dark matches that were good before the show started. Let me just say that I got there at 6:30 and the first two matches started around 7:45. Wrath got a huge pop, and had trouble with the meltdown for next weeks show. Flair got some MAJOR heat when he came out. Hogan had the croud working when he came out, even though I had no clue what either of them said. Biggesdt pop of the night was after the Hogan match, and the cameras went off, Hogan did his old routine of hand to the ear to the crowd. COOL!
Dark Matches:
The show was good for someone like me who enjoys wrestling, but for others who wanted to see a WWF show they were bored. The guy sitting next to me said that the WWF show there was better, but he said that he doesn't watch wrestling. I'm glad that Hogan can lower his standards and show up on a Thunder show. Hell, his face is all over the begining of it. I never realized how loud a good chest chop is until you hear it echo though the arena. via Kurt Henning over Hogan. Funny thing that should've got caught on tape was a guy at ringside throwing up all over the safety rails.
The representation of rednecks there were as expected, and I'm sorry that Lexington attracts people like that.
You guys keep up the great work, and I will continue my daily stop to DDT Digest!!!
