WCW Worldwide - Saturday, 12/18/99
-
This week's hosts are Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan
-
Tony says "We're one week away from Starrcade"
-
Hmm. Usually, they try to maintain that they're on time as far as PPV hypes despite showing old clips.
-
They start off with talking about...
-
Bobby uses his serious voice.
-
"In my own opinion, it's one of the biggest disgraces in professional sports."
-
Bobby's quite mad...'cause that means he has to be HERE on this show.
-
I feel your pain, Bobby.
-
Worldwide got rooked on the RSPW awards, though.
-
I disbelieve that many people actually watch it.
-
Just voting against it on reputation...
-
THUNDER! was worse, for my money. It's 2 hours, not one.
-
This week's clips are sponsored by Nitro 12/6!
-
Larry Z and Russo have a heart to heart.
-
"The announcers are the only part of the show that makes any sense."
-
We got to the match.
-
Tony draws a connection to Larry bashing Russo on this show to his being fired.
-
If some one managed to point that out on Nitro, I would have been happy.
-
Bobby "There's never been anyone in charge who's been brighter or more creative."
-
Bobby kisses up some more...
-
Recap of some of the fun stuff on Nitro
-
David Flair takes Symphony to the ring...
-
You'd think the ring security would do something to stop the kidnapping.
-
DDP comes to the ring and Diamond Cutters
-
DDP talks about "the rumors"
-
They leave the WWF mention in.
-
Why did DDP mention that?
-
It hadn't been mentioned previously on TV, so he's probably just making
the non-'net fans think it's part of some angle.
-
The 'shoot angle' comment doesn't get played.
-
DDP faces Sid, and everyone runs in
-
Nick Patrick orders the walk out.
-
Tony runs down the main Starrcade matches
-
Both hype up the ref angle as something that can effect Starrcade.
-
Too bad they dropped it the next show.
-
On to Nitro's main event
-
Or not, as we witness the set up, with Dubba J figure-fouring Tenay
-
Bobby "Would you meet with Mike Tenay if you had to?"
-
Tenay says 'Enough is Enough' but fails to say 'It's time for a change'
-
Then to the end of the Mona/Madusa/Evan mess.
-
And Jarrett hitting a woman, like he said he wouldn't do and calling out
the challenge to Goldberg
-
And he did again on this week's Nitro.
-
Okay, so the Artist and the Maestro are just two effeminate characters, that's close enough.
-
Right?
-
Right?
-
Eh, never mind.
-
Then to the main event...
-
Bobby and Tony talk about Piper being a referee.
-
Tony runs down the PPV line-up.
-
They still include Creative Control/Curt Hennig vs Midnight/Harlem Heat (w/tag belts on the line)
-
That match, probably due to the new no 'male vs female violence', was pulled from wcw.com
-
(Post-Nitro editing note: I guess not.)
-
Steve Regal (w/David Taylor) vs Barry Darsow
-
Your Announcers: Scott Hudson and Mike Tenay
-
Darsow is the Blacktop Bully this week.
-
But, I thought he got let go a while ago.
-
As did David Taylor
-
Must be an old taping.
-
Did Regal get let go?
-
Now Tenay and Hudson are saying THIS week is Starrcade weekend.
-
Sigh, does no one listen to this show before it goes out?
-
Hudson mentions the name 'Ric Flair' in talking about Starrcade '83's main event.
-
Who's he?
-
Lockup.
-
Now they mention Bret and Goldberg are tag team champions
-
Seeing as they alluded to Creative Control before as champs...
-
That's kinda'' REALLY STUPID.
-
Glad to know no one's paying attention.
-
Darsow and Taylor fight over the armbar, but Darsow ends it with a punch.
-
Regal backs off and talks to the camera.
-
Lockup, headlock by Regal, off the ropes, elbow by Darsow.
-
Regal backs of again.
-
Lockup, Darsow headlock, of the ropes, and Regal pushes him over the ropes.
-
Taylor with a few flag pole shots while Regal distracts the ref.
-
Regal with stomping and then an European Uppercut.
-
Darsow fights back with punches.
-
They are SO not even trying and it's SO obvious.
-
Regal with some knees, and again Taylor with the flagpole.
-
Taylor is getting more of a workout then in the match
-
They trade punches back in the ring, but Darsow end up taking control, whip and a lariat?
-
Darsow didn't bother following through with the move, he just kinda' put his arm there.
-
It came out looking like Regal just bumped into Darsow's forearm.
-
Back suplex by Darsow, ref Charles Robinson is slightly distracted by Taylor, but eventually counts 2, before Regal kicks out.
-
Robinson and Taylor talk about future job opportunities while Darsow picks
up Regal for a slam...
-
and accidentally hits Robinson in the eye with Regal's feet.
-
This is so weak.
-
I expect much better from both of these guys.
-
But this match is so "just do a couple cliché spots and get this over with."
-
Taylor uses the flag once again, and Regal puts on the Regal Stretch.
-
Robinson recovers and Darsow taps out.
-
Your Winner: Steve Regal
-
That match seemed effortless.
-
And I don't mean that in a good way.
-
Makes me wonder if some of the people involved got their pink slips before
the match.
-
Disco Inferno vs Mark Jindrak
-
Jindrak is a Power Plant grad
-
I hope the fact that he's new means he'll actually try.
-
Disco, playing the face, attacks before the bell.
-
Read that again.
-
It still won't make any sense.
-
Disco, with a Irish whip, back elbow.
-
Disco with a bodyslam, boogie woogie second rope elbow drop, 2 count.
-
Disco starts looking at the crowd for no reason, and gets rolled up for
2.
-
I think he was looking for Vito and Johnny the Bull...
-
Mark with a drop kick and Disco rolls out.
-
Disco starts to walk out, then runs back in to the ring.
-
Disco gets whipped, tilt-a-whirl back breaker.
-
That's one of the things that you can say for the Power Plant guys...
-
They've got some nice offensive moves.
-
Disco tries to escape, gets stopped, and eye pokes Mark, before throwing
him out of the ring.
-
Disco talks with the ref, turns around, and get dropped by a springboard
clothesline. 2 count.
-
Mark with kicks, cross corner whip and clothesline
-
Mark with another cross corner whip, but runs right into Disco's elbow.
-
Disco with a Russian (Brooklyn?) legsweep, and gets a 2 count.
-
Disco covers again, and gets another 2 count.
-
And again, and only a one.
-
Disco with a turnbuckle smash, then stomps Mark down in the corner.
-
Mark fights back with forearms, then a whip, but puts his head down too soon
-
Disco hits him with a forearm, knocking him over, and covers. 2 count.
-
Disco with a choke, broken at 3, and another, broken at 3 again.
-
Disco with a cross corner whip, knocking Mark to the mat, 2 count.
-
Disco with a whip, Mark with a sunset flip for 2.
-
Mark with forearms, whip, dropkick, but Disco holds on to the ropes
-
Disco with a kick to the midsection, Last Dance.
-
Your Winner: Disco Inferno
-
Why, yes, that was much better than last match.
-
Although Disco acting like a heel (and yet seemingly looking for the Goons out to get him) was kinda' dumb.
-
What, we have to protect the status of a Power Plant guy over a person who's going be on the PPV?
-
Bobby and Tony talk about Golbderg vs Bret
-
Bobby's mad when Tony says he'll be back next week.
-
I feel your pain, Bobby.
